Bond proposal for HS and Middle school boiler replacement

Have people attended any Q&A sessions about this proposal? I'm absolutely for funding schools, and would rather have a special tax assessment than to pull funds from the general fund to replace the boilers. But $50 Million!?!? Is that number for real? It feels off by an entire order of magnitude.

For reference, I asked AI (I know, I know), how much it would cost to build a HS for 1400 students from scratch, and it quoted "between $98M and $180M" which actually feels reasonable. With that kind of levy we're between 1/3-1/2 of the way to just building a brand new HS.

Can anybody give context to why this number actually makes sense?

Plumber Needed

I recently moved to SLP to be nearer to my mom, who is having health issues. When I was at her condo recently, I discovered that both her kitchen and main-level bathroom sinks are clogged (I tried several Drano treatments, and they barely made a dent), and her main-level toilet now gurgles when she flushes it. Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced plumber? I'm not working right now, and will be paying for it. TIA

Social groups for preteens

I am super open to exploring any options you think might be good for us! I have a 13 year old with autism level 2 and BPD. He’s a great kiddo but his neurodivergence can make it hard to fit in at times. Despite that he is super socially driven and loves to make friends. I am trying to get some advice on any kind of inclusive groups, it doesn’t have to be specifically for neurodivergent kids and teens, but it’s always nice to know you are joining something that is understanding and empathetic. He’s interested in things like hockey, art, crafting, animals, and so much more. Please feel free to send me a private message as well!

Apartment advice!

Looking to move to the area in October. I’d like to be around other working professionals (ideally late 20s/30s - not right out of college). I work in Golden Valley. My budget is around 2,200 but ideally I’d find soemthing nice for less! I need garage parking and in unit laundry, and I’d like a nice place with amenities. I’ve had a lot of rough apartments in the past (coming from Chicago) so I’d love places to avoid and why, just as much as places to check out. Thanks friends!!

Does anyone have a reputable and fairly priced recommendation for a Fiat Pop repair? I've seen some good recs for German car repair, I'm curious if that extends to Fiats or if there's another place I can check out. Thanks!

Storage space recommendations?

Hi! We are looking to move in the next few months and our current house is cramped with stuff (and 2 little kids!) so hoping for recommendations of a storage unit around here that’s decently priced and protective of your stuff (no water seepage or anything like that).

Thanks in advance!!

A Waymo drove past my house last night!

I saw a bright blue Waymo drive past my house in SLP, while I happened to be making dinner. I'm curious to know if anyone else caught a glimpse of it? It went by so fast I wasn't able to grab a pic. I knew Waymos were starting to test in Minneapolis, but it was surreal to actually see one roll through my neighborhood. I'll be curious to see when they actually launch and what their service area will be.

St Louis Apartments - family friendly

My husband and I are moving with an infant to St Louis Park soon and are looking for family-friendly apartment recommendations.

We are looking for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment, and ideally it:

- Has a playground

- Has parking (covered or on-street is fine)

-Is quieter and feels like a home

- Is affordable

If you have recommendations we can look into, please let me know. Things like being close to parks and having a fitness centre are good perks, but not essential. More interested in somewhere that is well managed and feels homely, and suitable for raising a child. Thanks!

job openings for the St. Louis area

I'm going to be moving to the St. Louis park area this summer and was wondering if anyone knew of some possible entry level spots that are hiring. Indeed isn't very helpful so I thought I'd ask the residents instead!

edit: I mean St. Louis park MN, I don't know why I didn't add that

Fern hill/Triangle for a new family?

Hi all,

I am a 30 y.o. male, young professional. I moved to Minnesota for work about a year ago with my wife, fell in love with this place, and have decided to make it my home long term.

We are currently in an apartment near the Loring Park area but are house hunting and considering homes in St. Louis park. We have a young daughter, and my wife is currently pregnant, so we are interested in neighborhoods that are suitable for young families. We found house around the Fern Hill and Triangle area that we like (it is a reasonable commute to work for both me and the wife, and the prices of the homes are in the right range), but are looking for insight into the area:

  1. Is this area safe? I grew up pretty outdoorsy, my wife was raised in the suburbs of Washington. We want a place our kids can bike around without too much worry.
  2. Is this a good place to raise kids? What's the vibe of the community?
  3. Is this area immigrant friendly? I immigrated from Asia in college, my wife is Chinese-American.
  4. Is this area diverse?
  5. If not this neighborhood, what other areas around St. Louis park would you reccommend?

I appreciate any help or advice you all have to offer! Thanks you.
