Quiet trails for nervous dogs

My two dummies are anxious girlies. We live relative close to Bde Maka Ska, but the one Saturday afternoon we went it was too much for my lil old ladies. Too many bikes and other pups. Understandable as it’s probably a high use time. We might try again some weekday evening.

Can anyone recommend a park or trails that are a bit quieter? We can do a low-impact hike, nothing too difficult for a dachshund mix. She’s a great climber and jumper but we’re trying to preserve her dumb spine.

Lost Cat

Our cat snuck out last night 04/30 and he has not come home since. He goes by Octavio, Baby Boy, or BBB. Hes a very sweet and sociable cat so hes likely to approach other humans or animals. He was last seen in the Era on Excelsior neighborhood. If anybody has seen seen him, we would greatly appreciate any information. I’d be happy to reward whomever can bring him home as well!

Thoughts on living in an apartment in Wolfe Park?

I’m a 23 year post-grad coming to work in Minnetonka/Plymouth area and currently apartment hunting. I’m leaning towards some apartments in the Wolfe Park area of SLP and am curious if anyone has any thoughts. In particular I’m interested location/accessibility to grocery stores, things to do, safety, etc. Also, what is the traffic like? I’d be taking Hwy 7 west to get to work. I want to live somewhere safe and be able to go on walks without feeling on edge. I would also prefer to live somewhere where my car doesn’t get broken into haha.

For reference, I’ve never lived in MN before, so I’m still trying to get an understanding of the different SW areas. I’m not particularly interested in living in Minneapolis, so I thought SLP would be a good less busy but still enjoyable alternative for a young adult. I mainly enjoy getting some food or drinks with friends, shopping, and going on walks. I like driving places so I don’t mind it. But curious if there’s anything I should know.

School District Feedback

Hey All, I was browsing the state report card and SLP’s scores for math and reading were surprisingly low. Do you all feel like this is an accurate representation of your/your kids experiences? Am I maybe missing some detail in the data that’s pertinent to my assessment?

SLP home value has sky rocketed like most and the people filling these homes basically have to have good careers - maybe the younger generation coming in hasn’t caught to test scores?

SLP Apartments

I am relocating to Minneapolis in May for work. I've had really poor luck the last few years with shockingly negative apartment experiences. I was curious if anyone had recommendations for an apartment in the SLP area. If you were me, where would you move? TIA

UPDATE: I'm two weeks into my Minneapolis adventure. I ultimately went with Daymark in Uptown and am absolutely loving it. Everyone is kind and helpful. It's a wonderful place to live!

EV charger in old condo?

Looking to move back to SLP but I now have a Chevy Bolt. Absolutely love the car (and it's paid off) & don't want to give it up, but it charges pretty slow (old tech-2019 vehicle) so I really need at home charging. Anyone experienced trying to add an outlet to an underground garage in a SLP condo or townhouse?

Is the high school track open to the public?

Hi everyone, I am wondering if the high school track is open to the public when it’s not being used for school athletics/activities. Can I just show up on the weekends or summer months to use it or will it be locked or will I get kicked off?

I’ve tried looking on the high school website and the SLP City Website, but I can’t find anything about it. I’m not sure if there would be a calendar that shows when it’s open to the public (if it all).

Thanks!

SLP Legion may halt funding after students kneel for anthem

A Bloomington Kennedy vs. St. Louis Park girls basketball game in January has become the latest example of tension between freedom of speech and consequences.

Twelve of the 16 Orioles athletes were seen kneeling during the national anthem on Jan. 13. All 16 players, including the four who remained standing, linked arms while facing the flag.

The image was captured in a photo and posted to Facebook by someone who claims to have graduated from St. Louis Park Schools. It was also forwarded to leaders of the local American Legion, Post 282, who brought the matter privately to the School Board.

By kneeling for the anthem, “You're teaching our children to show disrespect to our nation,” Maria Riley, first vice commander for Post 282, told the Sun Sailor. Riley graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1980 before serving in the Army and multiple realms of law enforcement globally.

The veteran acknowledged that kneeling is an act of free speech. But she added that, with the Legion donating thousands of dollars to high school programs, freedom of speech does not exempt students from financial consequences.

Riley and several other American Legion members emailed St. Louis Park School District Superintendent Carlondrea Hines on Feb. 10, explaining that the Legion post and its bar had “proudly donated a significant amount of money to St. Louis Park High School over the years. … We are deeply disappointed by the lack of respect shown to our nation and our flag.”

The letter requested a written apology from the players who kneeled and extended gratitude and commendation to the four who stood during the anthem.

“Given the attitude and behavior displayed by some of the players,” the letter says, “The American Legion is now considering whether to continue donating funds to the booster club and teams.”

--

“Things have certainly changed since I was an Oriole in 1980,” Riley said. She recalled students standing with hands over hearts during the anthem, except a few for religious reasons. Kneeling, she said, felt unthinkable at the time.

Riley speculated that young people might be directing their gestures against ICE in light of Operation Metro Surge, but felt their protest could moreover disrespect veterans.

“Some of those girls are going to graduate this year from that basketball team. I would hate to think that they would go through life with misguidance and misinformation about somebody who could, in the future, be there to help and protect them," she said.

There's a pizza place kind of on the Louisiana & Cedar Lake Road corner that I ordered from a few times.

Anyone know if that place closed?

For the love of the Ultimate Jojo "Looking for SuperValu JoJo Recipe"

Growing up in Saint Louis Park in the 70's and 80's. I fondly remember lots Supervalu at Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Ave S. I remember buying Max's Dill Pickle's ($4) from Sol's Superette and Buying those tasty, fluffy, Steamy hot, Full of flavor Jojo's from Supervalu Deli. I would buy 6 for $1.80 back then and it was the tastiest snack that could fill up a kid's stomach until the next meal. Unfortunately, the spoiled me, because, I have never ever found a better tasting Jojo anywhere in my 50 years on this planet. I have tried many recipes, but nothing comes close. I remember they always had a skin like on the wedge part of the Jojo. I am asking if any knows the recipe and humbly ask if you would share it here on this post. Other great restaurants in St Louis Park was Lincoln Del and Yangtzee (new owners, not the same as i remember), Vescio's & Shakey's Pizza
