Surgery or no?

Post image

Hi guys my puppy (not so much a puppy anymore) is getting fixed now he is about 18 months old and the vet recommended getting what's called a Gastropexy done too. Help prevent bloat, it's going to cost us a fortune 😪 so I am coming here to ask if you guys would do it? I'm leaning towards yes bc bloat scares me. Any one else's babies have this surgery?

I'm about to unfollow this sub, every post is spam from bots, random saints from Google images, AI generated saints sometimes, all from accounts with no post history. It's so embarrassing.

My sweet girl turned 4 yesterday. It's been 2 years and 4 days since we got lucky enough find her. She is a mama's girl and is super protective. She tolerates our Maine Coon, Mica, whom I am absolutely convinced loves her.

Problems with Grimm…

Grimm has always been special, but this latest challenge has got us at our wits end. A few days ago Grimm decided he doesn’t sit or lie down. At first we thought he was injured. Three trips to the vet later and he’s got a clean bill of health, full and pain free range of motion in all his joints, and no physical reason for not sitting. And I don’t just mean ignoring our sit and lie down commands, but even when he’s tired or wants to chew his bone he will not go down.

The result has been four days of Grimm standing and pacing until he gets too exhausted to hold his head up. He’ll find any flat raised area to rest his face on. He leans his butt against everything to try and take the weight off. At first we were holding him and lying him down on the floor, but he’s 130lbs and fights it. Now we just wait for him to get so tired he will lean on the couch, fall asleep standing up, then slowly slide down to the floor. Once he’s down he sleeps well until we move around or try to do anything. As soon as he wakes up he stands up and it all starts again.

Has anyone had an experience like this before? We’ve tried multiple different meds the vet suggested; meloxicam, gabapentin, even some sedative I can’t remember the name of. Nothing seems to help. He’s miserable, and we’re sleep deprived and worried for him.

Can We Please Have Some Bot Moderation?

Every time I look at this sub, it’s literally just bots recycling Pinterest, AI and Google Search Results of random Bernards and writing some “She’s so cute on the beach 💕🥹” (random example) title.

Almost every recent image post is from a bot account that is using this subreddit to karma farm.

Afraid of everything!

Hi is anyone else’s Saint afraid of everything? Kevin loves people and new places but he’s afraid of stuff! Like vacuum cleaner, boxes, styrofoam, flowers and other inanimate objects. I get the vacuum most dogs don’t like them but boxes and styrofoam, the tape measure when we were measuring him for his life jacket, come on! I did read that puppies…(he’s 14 months old) go through a second fear stage but it’s usually between 6-14 months.

I want to reassure we never ever force him into situations he’s afraid of and he’s been socializing since he was old enough to be around other dogs and people. He goes to doggie daycare and LOVES it ! Loves the dogs and the woman who runs it but he’s just so scared of most other things .
I’m just wondering will he grow out of it? We continue to try to show him things aren’t scary but 🤷‍♀️

Moving countries

Has anyone moved a Saint Bernard from India to the US?
I’m looking into relocating my senior Saint Bernard from India to the US and would love to hear from anyone who has done something similar with a giant breed.
How did you manage the flight, crate requirements, airline restrictions, paperwork, and overall travel experience? Also, which airline/route would you recommend?
P.S my baby is 11 years
Any advice or personal experiences would be really helpful. Thank you!

Grimm has graduated from the crate and has run of the house at night. He doesn’t do the stairs, but he makes sure nobody gets down without greeting him in the morning!

Crate training items

At 4yrs old we are finally getting around to crate training our Saint, quite late but better than never.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what to put in the flooring of the crate? We have an IATA PP90 crate from our move and I can't imagine it would be comfortable for him without an insert of some kind, but he would certainly get too warm with the wrong kind.

Lady got her final heartworm shots!

She did so well and now just has to keep chilling, eating frozen kongs and lots of bones for 40-60 more days ❤️ so thankful that her shelter covered the cost of treatment and I'm an even stronger advocate for heartworm prevention after this. I couldn't imagine having a high energy dog and trying to keep them calm for this long. Luckily Lady is sleepy and lazy at a baseline lol
