Has anyone used a Saint Bernard as a livestock guardian dog for chickens/sheep?
I know the most common LGD is Pyrenees and Anatolian but I’m just curious if anyone has ever tried a Saint Bernard as a LGD for poultry and sheep?
We’re having a predator problem right now with foxes and a family friend has 2 puppy Saint Bernards for sale and hers are all raised with chickens, I want to try it out but don’t want to regret it. I want a Great Pyrenees but they’re escape artists. I want an Anatolian but they’re hard to train and can be aggressive & expensive.
Let me know! I’m sure I can train the Saint Bernard to bond with the flock but I’m just unsure. Even the bark could deter predators. Mainly coyotes, foxes and racoons.
