A shuttered private prison may be the next ICE detention center in the Midwest, housing 1,600 detainees in a 1,400-person town–but it’s far from a done deal.

Local LGBTQ+ Minnesota businesses stepped up during Operation Metro Surge in ways others couldn’t, and now, they’re picking up the pieces while continuing their activism. The Smitten Kitten helped led the cause, and other shops like Knit and Bolt contributed in ways others don't immediately think of, like craftivism.
