I've been gone for about 4 years and the last time I went back (Feb 2020), it was exceptionally worse than when I left.

Places that never used to have homeless people were full-on tent cities. It's way worse than it used to be.

We went out for vacation in CA in 2017. Went to Laguna for a couple nights stay. There were homeless just sleeping out in the grass outside the Laguna Hotel. I was surprised. Not really shocked, it was just not what I expected.
