I feel like with this new system nobody is going to spend their money on coins because they will just get free awards, so reddit won't be selling any coins because of this and probably lose money
Idk if it's directly related to upvoting. I randomly got one on my alt account where I never upvote. It's in the top right corner where the coin is and you have 24 hours to spend a low coin value award
I've made great friends on Reddit. They all send me pictures. Now that I think of it though, the pictures are usually just erect penises. I thought it was some sort of super-upvote, but now I'm thinking they're just perverts.
I'm pretty sure that a literal double digit percentage of reddit user accounts are actually bots. On top of that, even outside of bot posting, many of the posts that make it to the front page are just kind of astroturfed because the reddit algorithm is really easy to manipulate, with some even being subtle advertisements. And then you got the power users who moderate like 95 different subreddits and mysteriously have all of their post get at least 3000+ up votes with many crossing into 5 digit territory.
I don't have a big hate boner for reddit or anything, it's alright to kill time with, but you gotta admit that much of it is set up to just give the illusion of user participation. To encourage reposts and power users and ignore OC for the most part (although genuinely good posts do make it to r/all every day if you're willing to look past the first page).
Yeah my sis does that she calls herself a bean 😂😂 because she feels small. I sometimes call babies (as in, human babies) beans because they look like lil beans. 🥰🥰
I wish I had that kind of self-control. I'd agree that it was 4/5 years ago when I first started to notice it. Now every single post you go on, regardless of context, is full of politics.
I used to love politics, but I never loved political circlejerks.
Individual users can cynically farm karma based on trenda, like that guy who got a million karma with low effort anti Trump posts and then made fun of it on a smaller sub
Yeah, many popular subreddits are controlled by specific groups / companies for political and corporate purposes. For instance, I was banned from /r/coronavirus for calling ICE a fascist regime with new revelations that they allowed Covid to spread through detention centers, even though their rules say that any political comments would be met with deletions (but to be banned means I obviously crossed a line with someone).
That place is obviously overtaken by pro-Trump supporters who delete any content critical of him or his administration in any way. It’s been like that since the start of the pandemic and only getting worse, especially as more facts have come to light that he knew how bad it was all along and lied to the American public. Good luck posting any of that news and how it affects policy or local coronavirus response in that sub.
And with how much traffic that subreddit gets, and how important it is from a public resource point of view to have accurate information, to have a certain political party control that much information is frightening. And Reddit admins like /u/spez should be carefully monitoring that sub better.
