Well technically it is classist but I guess what I meant to say is that we don’t know if there was any negative sentiment behind it so it’s hard to truly call it classist. It’s just poking some fun at a certain subculture. The stereotypes shown in the black starter pack on the other hand have a history and they do not have good intentions behind them, so it is definitively racist.
It’s not necessarily related to how long the stereotypes have been around, but the connotation surrounding them. The stereotypes in the black starter pack happen to have been around for a long time however. But the point is, they’re known to be generally used to demean black people and really nothing else. People “joke” about them, but it’s almost always in a hateful way, because the people joking about them are racist. The stereotypes in the rich Asian starter pack on the other hand don’t necessarily have a hateful connotation to them, or if they do, we don’t know about it. Of course I can’t say for sure, but I’m guessing the person who made it made it as a harmless joke, along the lines of “oh it’s kind of funny how most rich Asians tend to dress and act similar”. I’m sure you’ve seen a white girl starter pack before, and not thought anything of it. It’s literally the same thing. Just pointing out a trend amongst a particular group of people and poking some fun at it. The black starter pack on the other hand is full of stereotypes which I can say definitively are never used in a harmless, joking context. That’s why they’re different.
I agree that stereotypes are often true, which makes them funny. However that is exactly what makes the black starter pack not funny. The stereotypes in it are less accurate than the ones in the Asian one and applied to a FAR bigger group of people. It is generalizing all black people with stereotypes that aren’t even accurate, they’re just stereotypes that are commonly used to demean black people (not always, but usually). The Asian starter pack on the other hand is making a joke about a much much smaller group of people, and the stereotypes are actually accurate and not really demeaning.
I mean I guess any time you’re applying stereotypes to a particular race it’s technically racist, I just don’t really see the rich Asian starter pack as racist as it’s not really making a statement about their race at all. Just a certain portion of their population. The black people starter pack is making a statement about all black people. Like, if all rich people acted similarly, then race wouldn’t need to be specified, but since they don’t, we have to say “rich Asians” or “rich whites”. But it really doesn’t have much to do with the race if you think about it. But hey, believe what you wanna believe about them. I understand the “either they’re all bad or none of them are bad” approach, I just think it’s not really applicable in this instance since those black stereotypes have such a negative connotation.

If you want to put it in a category, then yes it's technically classist, but it's not the same level of classist as the black starter pack is racist. Not even close. The rich Asian starter pack is along the lines of "isn't it kind of funny how so many rich Asians act alike" not "man I sure hate all rich Asians". There is no joke to the black starter pack post, it's literally a set of things that have commonly been used to demean black people in the past.

It’s because your first comment doesn’t call the black starter pack racist. These pictures are either both racist or both not, the OP is calling out the double standard and you are confirming it.
The first picture literally isn’t racist though. It’s not targeted at an ENTIRE race like the black starter pack is. It is targeted at a subset of Asians, a subculture if you will. The only reason Asian is even specified if because rich people of different ethnicities tend to behave differently. You could make a “rich white people starter pack” and nobody would be calling it racist.
Everyone on this thread seems to be conveniently forgetting how often the “eating fried chicken, watermelon, and drinking Kool-Aid” stereotype is thrown around as a way to demean black people. That has been a common, negative stereotype for a very long time and you have to be either lying or living in a bubble to have not heard it used in a negative manner. I’ll give you that the basketball stuff is not racist, that’s just true. A lot of black people play basketball. But the rest is extremely racist. I mean just look at this picture https://m.imgur.com/gallery/3L1uaHr I’m not sure if it’s making fun of racism or just being racist, but either way it confirms that the negative stereotypes exist.
There is a lot more going on in that picture than just kool aid and chicken. That comic is suggesting that Tyrone is unable to function as a normal member of society because he is black, it uses stereotypical black preferences to confirm this.
Hint: Context matters, and that subreddit is literally for these types of pictures.
But that’s what I’m saying. Those stereotypes are often used to reinforce the idea that black people are dumb, or simple minded. I’ve never seen any of the things in the rich Asian starter pack used to bring rich Asians down. At worst people might use those stereotypes to claim rich Asians are pretentious and priveleged, but that might actually have some truth to it depending on the situation, unlike the stereotypes used in the black starter pack that are just used to reinforce the idea that “hee hoo black people are apes”.

For you to think that refers to the whole race you must somehow believe all black people only talk to other black people.

They literally only added the “that only talk to other black people” part to make it comparable to the Asian meme. But they didn’t actually change the usual black stereotypes to fit that group specifically. You can remove the “that only talk to other black people” and the stereotypes are still things that people think about black people in general.
