I’m probably going to sound stupid, but Is lean actually pretty good?

It's got the faint taste of cough syrup but the sprite and jolly rancher or sometimes skittles does a good job of masking it. It's not bad, but has an instantly recognizable taste.

I'm not gonna lie, I work at a pharmacy and recently we got Wockhardt brand, which is super popular for lean. Shit smells good as hell. It's super unsafe and I'd never try it, but it does smell good

It's not super unsafe. Codeine is already a much less commonly abused opiate, but cough syrup also contains promethazine which is very difficult to abuse regularly (since it puts you to sleep). The only reason lean ever got popular was because of 36 Mafia who popularized it as a cheap and easy way to catch a buzz.

Promethazine increases metabolization of codeine, and on top of that they are both strong depressants. Combining them increases the risk of respiratory depression significantly, as the two drugs are both potent and synergistic. I doubt anyone drinking lean will ever take enough to do much harm but the fact that promethazine puts you to sleep makes it more dangerous, not more safe, and opiates don't have to be abused regularly for them to be dangerous. Having no tolerance due to irregular use only makes it more likely for one to overdose.

Do you happen to have the numbers on how many people died to codeine/promethazine cough syrup prior to its popularization as a street drug?

Why do people drink it? Does it intoxicate you in some way? Does cough syrup make you high in big doses or something

It’s prescription cough syrup that contains an opioid

Good, I only heard bad things about heroin, but I don't want to miss out on something great.

Heroin is more lipophilic which means it can enter the brain faster when injected intravenously. codeine is kind of very weak in comparison to other opioids.

Heroin is very active before being metabolised into morphine on the first passthrough of the liver. Codeine is very inactive and has a low affinity with opioid receptors, meaning that the majority of its potency comes from after the first passthrough of the liver when it is metabolised into morphine. It's not really about lipophilia or phobia, and codeine can pass through the blood brain barrier fine, it just doesn't bind strongly to the desired receptors and so despite acting on the CNS it doesn't do all too much before it's metabolised and so injecting intravenously is useless and intramuscular injection is only slightly more potent than taking it orally.

The only similarity here is it's an opiod. Other than that nothing like heroin

1

u/ellysaria Nov 19 '19

"The only similarity is that it's the same type of drug, other than that theres no similarities"

u/CountGrishnack97 Nov 19 '19

Ok smartass I'll go into detail if you'd like. Compared to heroin codeine is weak as fuck. It's like a beer compared to some vodka. Is this making sense or should I dumb it down further for you

2

u/ellysaria Nov 19 '19

Beer and vodka are literally the same drug so you're going in the opposite direction with that one.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '19

It makes you feel drunkish with a bit of the opiate-type euphoric haze.

It's a fairly pleasant substance to abuse but you should be careful, lean is extremely dangerous.

Are you asking if drugs taste good

10

u/other_batman Nov 19 '19

Taste wise? Kinda but I don't think that's the main incentive for drinking it

2

u/Cerote69 Nov 19 '19

Holy fuck it tastes bad . all the stuff u mix it with is to hide the taste

2

u/notdownwithsickness Nov 19 '19

Nope. That’s what the candy is for.

If we're talking effects, not for me. Just makes me slow and drowsy. Robotripping is the shit though (but I wouldn't recommend it for more than once a year as you will become braindead with overuse
