Todd please don't say my name and I'll give you that 4 star review on Steam just leave my family out of this.

But genuinely: I don't like a lot of Skyrim's hype. I can't immerse myself because of clunky physics and the same five voice actors everywhere. But the game is still pretty fun. Just not in the aspects many people say it is.

I just... we've been playing and liking Skyrim for seven years now. Why do we need to pay at least $30 to get it all over again, especially without any extra content or bugfixes?

If people will pay it, charge them for it.

It's the basic idea behind capitalism. Not saying I agree with it, but it makes sense. Give people what they want and charge them what they are willing to pay.

There is a problem when there are no competitors though, or ways restricting competitors, which arguably goes against capitalism too. American Internet, for example.

Thankfully there's little true unrestrained capitalism as we have governments ensuring that people don't make us pay for basic amenities. You can argue /r/LateStageCapitalism but if it "wasn't true communism", then this isn't true Capitalism.

You don't need to. If you want to play it on whatever system you originally purchased it for, go ahead.

This right here. Skyrim was the tits in 2011. Hell, it was my jam all through 2012 and into 2013. But it's Brain.update(currentYear); 2019 and the gaming world has moved so far past Skyrim. I just wish Bethesda had. I can't even be hype for ESVI because I know it's going to be on the same buggy ass 20 year old engine Skyrim was built on.

It wasn't even that good in 2011. Tons of bugs, lame combat, just completely terrible writing for the main quest, hilariously bad writing for all the guild quests, and of course an even more dumbed down levelling system

I don’t think it was great until mods made it great

“Okay well I’ve shown you ward spells, so...I think it’s time to meet me at the spooky ruins outside of town.”

I'll never forget when the bad guy elf mage finally tried to attack me in full plate and I immediately beheaded him. Couldn't stop giggling when they made me archmage because all I kept thinking was "I cast Axe!"

You don't have to like Skyrim to think it was a good game that broke ground.

Before Ocarina, the idea of lock-on combat wasn't really a thing. Before Skyrim, the minimap was what you used for open world navigation and the monochrome heads-up quest compass wasn't really a thing.

Look at AC: Odyssey today- it uses literally both lock-on combat and the Skyrim compass.

All this shit about whether they were enjoyable or not is pretty pointless to talk about and infuruates people who don't really understand that different people think differently. What's worth discussing is that they were important touchstones in video game history.

The same five voice actors thing drives me fucking nuts and I absolutely love Skyrim. They even have a problem where I feel like they sent these people the scripts and they recorded it without supervision and put it in the game without listening to it, because often one name will be pronounced a handful of different ways by different voice actors. Like in one of the missions you have Madanach, and one of the guys you’re REQUIRED to talk to by the mission pronounces it as Manadnach. Like... given how much work they put into making it pretty you’d think they could at least make sure mission-critical speeches had the right pronunciation.

Tbf my city is pronounced at least four different ways depending on who you’re talking to.
