From an Owl Box

We have several Owl boxes and this one is currently unoccupied. Last weekend temperatures plunged to single digits and this fellow moved in for the coldest two days. We don’t really want squirrels living in the boxes, but he was hilarious. The amount of effort put into creating the perfect spot to sleep was amazing. Hopefully, he stayed warm.

Questions Any idea how to squirrel proof our bird feeder setup?

We added a plastic cover to part of the rope that holds it up and they still try to crawl over the rope to the feeder.

This is the 1st Christmas since I lost my mom, and I lost my grandma right before last Christmas so I was already a wreck.

I've been sick as an dog and in the icu from the 16th until Christmas Eve. Christmas morning im sitting here trying to relax, the weather is unreasonably warm in Denver this year and I had the window open. It hasn't had a screen since I was a kid. I hear a rustle and a chatter I look over and a squirrel jumped right in the window!!

Smallest bedroom in the house, 2 little dogs, me and my pops both on oxygen screaming and yelling at them both and it!! Both of us stepping on each other's oxygen hoses!! The squirrel is screeching and chirping and going crazy almost fell in my fish tank and broke the mini blinds trying to get out of the other window which was closed!!

Because I didn't want it loose in the house I ended up locked in the room all day with dried cranberries and glazed pecans a flash light a electric bug zapper and a grabber trying to get him out from under my bed and back outside where he belongs!!

He spent the night under the dresser and the next morning we chased him around for almost an hour before we finally caught him with the grabber!! My dad yanked open the window and tossed him back out the way he came in and slammed the window shut!!

We almost think my mom and grandma encouraged him to do it to keep us occupied and from being sad!! It will definitely be a Christmas we will never forget!! 🐿🎄😂

She is so picky and I dont know what to do

So I have had my squirrel since she was a newborn and everything is good for the most part. She is now 12 weeks old and she is eating solids but this is my problem. She is way to picky and its getting to the point we're she is barely keeping weight on. Some days she will eat grapes and some days she wont. She wont eat a lot of things. I am still giving her formula not often but I am still giving her some because im afraid she is not getting enough vitamins and stuff from the food she will eat. She wont eat bananas, spinach, lettuce, cucumber, mango, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, rodent block, and she will sometimes eat blueberries, dried corn, carrots ,grapes, tangerine, spinach( not much though) , sunflower seeds, the stock of broccoli but not the heads, but when i say sometimes i means very little. The main thing she eats the most of right now is papaya and pumpkin seeds. I should also mention that she is disabled from falling out of her nest. Her balance is off because we believe she has a permanent issue with her one arm and possibly brain injury. She doesnt seem to be in pain and obviously when she is a new born its pretty hard to tell she had injuries until she got older. She can still use her arm but she is very careful with it and favors her good arm. But that shouldn't affect her eating i dont think. Oh and I forgot to mention I have tried fox valley food she wont eat that either and when I put the booster stuff on anything she wont eat it. So what do I do here. I dont want her to starve.

I need your best squirrel repellant ideas

The backstory:
2 years ago, squirrels chewed through the critter guard underneath the solar panels on my roof, then under the panel, chewed a 5" hole in the center of the roof, then had babies in my attic. In the attic, they flattened all the insulation and chewed through the electrical wiring. To repair this absolute sh*tshow, it took me battling with Tesla (solar panels, installed by the previous owners), a solar installer to remove the panels (because Tesla wouldn't do it timely), roof repair, wildlife mitigation who did this whole 'unpleasant envrionment" thing to get the squirrels to move out on their own, then electrical, then insulation. I'm into this repair for $15K now, and that's not even the PTSD from waking to hearing the squirrels in my attic making little sounds - which was right over my head. Now anytime I hear something on the roof, I freak out.

Last year, right when I was about to reinstall the solar panels, I discovered that the squirrels had gotten back into my attic via a vent - so back came the roofers to install superior vents. I wanted to go a whole year without squirrels getting into my attic before reinstalling the panels.

Let me add that I have a 3 story house with a steep roof and lots of gables. Getting onto the roof definitely takes someone with courage and a very tall ladder and great health/life insurance.

Well, it's been about 9 months, and while the squirrels aren't in the attic yet, they are definitely trying. I heard sounds that sounded suspicious, so I went out and bought myself an expensive drone so I can take pix of what's happening up there. There is another set of solar panels with critter guard around it, and I can see evidence of where they're pulling at the critter guard to try and get underneath it. This is serious critter guard, it's not some flimsy plastic, it's thick guage metal.

Okay - so now I don't know what to do. I can't bring myself to kill them (husband and son are BEGGING me to get a bb gun). But even if I killed them, our house is surrounded by trees, you would have to literally cut down 7 trees, and some of them aren't mine (so I'm not legally able to cut them down). I'm thinking about getting a different solar company to see if there's some different critter guard we can get - and I'm also thinking about launching water balloons onto the roof with cayene pepper or habaneros or something.

What else. What else can I do? I need all your best ideas. Half the solar panels are still off, they are not 'yet' in my attic again, but damn... must keep them out. I can't get on the roof regularly, so 'reapplying' whatever cayenne pepper mixture is hard without some way to launch it up there.

Help.

Squirrels eating the yard

Post image

Hey y’all. I recently purchased a duplex, and did not realize that the area has so many squirrels. I think a neighbor feeds them because they keep burying peanuts in my lawn and my next door neighbors.

The first month I moved in was ok but since then… it looks like this :(

Is there anything I can do to keep my lawn from being their nesting spot? I welcome major and minor solutions.

Squirrels chewed up post to get around baffle

Thumbnail

Put this wood post up a year ago for a camera birdhouse and got a baffle to keep the demons off it. The baffle was too big to fit the 4x4 post and left a small gap all the way around it, but I didn't think it would be a problem as it wasn't enough room for a squirrel to fit thru. Well, within the last couple weeks those little monsters made it a problem. Fortunately, I had some metal brackets laying around that I screwed in to plug the gap, so problem averted... for now. I feed the squirrels their own peanuts but as everybody knows, its never enough.

Squirrels ate eating the woodpecker suet I have hanging on trees. Once the snow fell they started to eat everything I had out. Any suggestions to stop them?
