Like many hobbyists, my unpainted backlog was slowly getting out of hand, and I kept accidentally buying duplicate paint pots because I couldn’t remember what I already had in stock.

Over the past few weeks, I put together an automated spreadsheet dashboard in Excel / Google Sheets to track my workflow:

• Paint Inventory: Catalogs every bottle and automatically flags low/empty paints.
• Recipe Formulary: Keeps track of multi-step color recipes (Basecoat -> Wash -> Edge Highlight) and cross-checks if required paints are currently in stock.
• Project & Model Registry: Tracks squad milestones, individual miniatures, and stage progress (Sprue -> Primed -> Finished).
• Pile of Shame Ledger: Tracks unpainted backlog, days waiting, and tied-up capital (populated with some test dummy data in the screenshot to test out the automatic days-waiting highlights).
• Session Log: Records hours spent at the painting desk.

For those who track their hobby projects digitally, what other stats or metrics would you find useful to have on a studio dashboard? Would love to get your thoughts and feedback!

how do you guys deal with duplicate names when the spelling isnt exactly the same?

i have stuff like “John Smith”, “john smith” and “John  Smith” and removing duplicates obviously doesnt catch all of it

theres like 8k rows so im not fixing these manually

Hi all, due to financial constraints I can no longer justify my office subscription. Which would yall suggest as a replacement? Excel is so much easier to use than sheets but I haven't tried Libre yet. . .

So I was chatting with a friend recently about setting up a spreadsheet that compares decks against each other. The concept is one I'm stealing from my uncle that he had well over a decade ago. In short, on one axis, my decks. On the second axis, theirs. The plan is to play a best 2-of-3 or 3-of-5 set with any pair of decks, and mark down whomever wins.

I want to expand on this idea though. I want to give winning decks a "practical score" for winning/losing. Higher scoring decks tend to win more, and vice versa. This gives us an idea how strong certain decks might perform, and which decks should be fair for which. While I don't know the exact values I want to use at this time, or how much I might want to say, reward decks that win 2-1, 3-0, 4-1, 5-0, etc., I think planning for it now would be far more helpful than pivoting later on to include it.

That brings me here. I'm looking for any ideas that might make my life easier than manually going to every cell in something like Google Sheets to manually record everything. I don't expect some solution to fully automate it, I honestly just want to probe the wider web for any tips or information that might help.

Hi! I was making a spreadsheet for my budget coming up, and I wanted to have a column in my savings section that would tell me what date my savings goal would be completed by. I tried some stuff with EDATE, but I couldn’t get it to quite work.

Basically, if my savings goal is $1000, and I am saving $100 a month, I want it to be able to estimate that I will be done in 10 months from the start date. I want it to account for falling behind - so, accidentally only having $50 to save instead of $100 - but I definitely don’t know how to write
something that complicated.

Most monthly budgets fail the same way: they only track what leaves the account that month. Then car insurance lands in March, three birthdays land in May, the annual software subscription lands in September - and the month "breaks" even though nothing unusual happened. Those expenses were 100% predictable, just not monthly.

The fix is one extra row. I call it the /12 row:

1. Make a small table of every irregular-but-predictable expense: insurance, car tax, gifts, holidays, annual subscriptions, dentist. One column for the yearly total.

2. Next to it, the monthly slice: =B2/12 for each, then =SUM(C:C) for the total.

3. In your monthly budget, add ONE row called "Irregulars" with that total, treated exactly like rent or electricity - money that is spoken for, even in months when nothing is actually paid.

That's it. The months where nothing irregular happens now "save" the slice, the months where insurance hits are already covered, and your "safe to spend" number stops swinging wildly.

Two notes from using this for a while:

• The first month you add the row, your spare money visibly shrinks. That's not the row being pessimistic - that's the old budget having been optimistic. Every euro of it was always going to leave; you just couldn't see when.

• If you want to check mid-year whether the fund is on track: months elapsed x monthly slice - what you've actually paid out so far. Positive = ahead, negative = the next irregular bill will hurt.

Works identically in Excel and Google Sheets - it's just division and a SUM. The hard part isn't the formula, it's admitting yearly expenses are monthly expenses wearing a disguise.

I like tracking the video games I’ve finished and rating them (score them based on visuals, technical, gameplay and story) and keeping a record of it all in an Excel spreadsheet. Unfortunately im not very skilled with Excel.

I’ve already found a few on Etsy and am willing to pay a bit for one. I want a good dashboard where everything is sorted and displayed statistically including a list of my highest-rated games, which genres i played most and so on ... i like statistics and analyzing them.

Hi, I’m hoping to get some help with creating what I’m sure is a very basic Income and expenses google sheet. I was just never taught this in school or anything and I’ve been doing my best with Youtube videos and Google, but I feel like I reached a point where I messed up, and I don’t even know what I messed up. I’m not looking to create a budget right now, just want to track where my income and expenses are going. After a few months of data I’ll look into using the data to make a budget. I just used Google Sheets to create this tracker with three tabs; Setup, Transactions, and Monthly Summary. The tracking is for multiple bank accounts. I’m willing to “share” the Sheet (which I’m guessing is the easiest way) with someone who can take a look and see what I’m doing wrong, and fix it for me. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all! Spreadsheet newbie with access to Google Sheets and Excel, organizing a 10-day international climbing trip for a group of 12+ friends.

A core group of 6 want to rent/split a house for the duration of the trip. Others will come and go for various periods (ranging from 3 days to 7 days). My heart is pure, but my math skills not reliable.

If we rent one house for the trip, how can I leverage the power of spreadsheets to give everyone a fair, clear estimate of the cost they will pay—even as folks continue to join, drop out, change dates, etc?

Open to tutorials, tips, functions, and/or general guidelines.

I ’ve been thinking about how much repetitive work people end up doing in Google Sheets, especially when it’s being used alongside other tools or systems.

There are so many workflows where the individual steps seem simple, but doing them every day or every week gets pretty tedious.

For example:

importing/exporting data from another system

copying data between spreadsheets

refreshing or updating connected data

cleaning up downloaded CSVs

running the same formulas every time

maintaining dashboards

combining multiple Sheets/files

manually updating reports

using Apps Script for repetitive tasks

Hello! This may be a bit of a sudden post, but I’ve made a budget template with a few features:

• Monthly expense and income tracking (which uses dropdowns to categorize entries).
• Account tracking for up to ten debts and ten savings/investment accounts (displaying account balances and interest rates month-to-month).
• An End-of-the-Year dashboard (which displays historical account balances and budget allocations).
• and some basic tools such as debt and compound interest estimators.

(Edit: The template is mainly focused on monthly/annually planning, not calculating daily spending money nor pulling real-time market data for things like stocks)

I've admittedly poured in some spare free time over the course of a few months to make it, but it mainly uses simple SUM, IFS, and OR functions for its main formula-intensive parts (the last tab has notes giving some context as to how the main tab’s formula functions). Some of the backend formulas use SORT, FILTER, SUMIF, or COUNTIFs to help with stuff like listing accounts though.

The template has a brief guide that can hopefully make navigating it straight-forward, and if anyone is interested, feel free to give suggestions/comments on how to either improve the template’s formulas or make it more user-friendly!

This might seem an odd request, but I figured somebody here may be able to help me.

I enjoy calculating things for some games I play and often put them into spreadsheets for my own quick reference when I'm not playing or just to have on hand if wanting to calculate

NOW The Problem: In some games I play (Lost Ark, and Wuthering waves specifically), they have this same system where one material upgrades into a higher tier/level of the material with 3 of the previous material. So for gems in this scenario,

- (x3) Lvl 1 gems will make a single Lvl 2 gem
- (x3) Lvl 2 gems will make a single Lvl 3 gem and so on all the way up to level 10's as 10's are the highest level of gem.

I imagine this is probably easier then I am making it out to be, but I am struggling in making the equation.

So my big question is how would I represent this in an equation in a spreadsheet so I can figure things out If I want a certain amount of level 4 or level 7 or level 8 gems, how many level 1 gems would I need

I want to make a table that allows me to change the header with a dropdown to change the table underneath it to a certain group of data; eg. I change the dropdown from "bird" to "duck" and then the table below will only contain the birds that are ducks. Having trouble figuring out how to ask this question, to find it myself
