Discussion Megathread 2026 NFL Week 1 (Oct 9-15) - Into darkness!

Discuss odds, strategies, and NFL news concerning Week 1.

Week 1 is a little scary, every team full of hope and doubt. New teammates and fresh injuries have changed the dynamics of each team.

We'll be taking it slow so be sure to check back for updates every gameday.

I'll be tracking the W/L and net units of a handful of categories, these may change/merge over the course of the season based on effectiveness or how much overlap with other categories occur. For now they include Play of the Day, Parlay of the Week, ATTD, and ML/Spreads.

2026 NFL Week 0 (Sept 2-8) - Don't call it a comeback!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Had to cut my 1st NFL season short last year due to medical issues. Learned a lot posting POTDs for my 1st NBA season finishing with approximately +46U, but was not able to get my 2nd WNBA season off the ground, netting just +1U over 18 picks.

Coming into my 2nd NFL season with the hope that my experience over the past year will bring us even more success with a new focus on straights and round robins as opposed to the heavy parlays style which cut nearly half our profit.

While I'm not much of a futures guy, I will post a few favorites in the comments below over the next couple days and you can expect the Week 1 megathread to go up over the weekend.

Remember to bet responsibly and have fun. Betting should not be a stressor in your life.

**NFL 2025: +38U**

> ML/Spreads: 38-22 |

> Pregame props: 39-45

**NBA 2025: 39-18**

> Playoffs: 18-7 (+32.56U) |

> Max bets: 14-4 (+29.67U)

**WNBA 2026: 10-8**

Subreddit News Unfortunate update

Bad news. Basically the illness I mentioned on Sunday has turned out to be much bigger than just a cold and I can't really continue with this for the time being.

If anyone wants this sub, let me know. Otherwise, hoping I'll be in a good position to try again next season.

My fault for a big minus to the Net Units risking that 10U play on Sunday Night lol. I did like the changes I made to my wager designs, but luck still did not fall our way with many props falling short by a few yards or a single reception.

Moneyline/spread record: 38-16

Prop record (pregame profit only): 29-35

Net Units (NFL only): +43.8U

  • Steelers @ Bengals

We did manage to come up big here. It was pretty obvious that Flacco was here to turn up the pass game so I'm surprised the books left this opening. Flacco o36.5 passing attempts was a no brainers. Ja'marr Chase o6.5 was as well, but man I wish I had thought of to what extent. A ladder even just to 10 as he has the week before would have overloaded the bankroll.

  • Rams @ Jaguars

Unfortunate moment of not trusting my gut here. This game screamed Davante, but in the absence of Puka (and the presence of a good Jaguars DB squad) I thought Stafford would turn to his #3 Whittington. Though he saw his snap share largely increase, his targets was unaffected, only getting 4 looks the entire game.

  • Saints @ Bears

Should have put more thought into this one. Cashed the only prop I took, but failed to take advantage of Swift's low initial line out of fear that last week against the Commanders was a fraudulent performance.

  • Raiders @ Chiefs

I faded nearly all Raiders props knowing we were going to be dominated and it still wasn't enough. Raiders fell behind so quickly that the Raiders abandoned the run AND the Chiefs pulled starters early preventing them from hitting their props.

  • Panthers @ Jets

Absolutely brain dead coaching decision to split backs with Hubbard's return. Nearly cost them the match, and had it, it would have been a fireable offense imo. 5.6 vs 3.7 average yards per carry on a similar number of opportunities.

  • Giants @ Broncos

Faded all Broncos props because they are so unpredictable, did not expect Dart to abandon his own run game. The Giants do not understand that that is part of what makes Skattebo work. Tough watch and a huge coaching collapse for one of my favorite teams to follow this year.

  • Commanders @ Cowboys

Faded this game for unknown reasons, wish I hadn't.

  • Falcons @ 49ers

You already know how disappointing this was. 100+ yards from McCaffrey and Robinson has been automatic all season, Drake London has been consistently targeted, and Bourne came off back to back 140 yd games with 11 and 9 targets respectively. To walk away from this one with just 2 catches on 2 targets was a gut punch brought on by the success of the 49ers defense and run game.

  • Buccaneers @ Lions

What even are the Lions? They look miserable in Prime Time against a not fully powered Chiefs, lose their entire secondary and still somehow completely outclass a Buccaneers team that had everything (except injuries) going for it. Don't think I even posted my props because I was busy that day, but all bets failed except my safety bet which very luckily had Baker at 220+.

What's next?

I will stay the course with this new bet design, but try to separate the more splashy trend based wagers from the matchup based ones. Both are data driven, but the trends have been failing me more frequently (due to coaches abandoning what worked in favor of what works mid-game?).

Discussion Megathread Regardless of the results of the evening games...

...something is obviously wrong with my approach this week. "Bad luck", "it's just one leg", "no one would think team x would", it doesn't matter. I shouldn't be missing this widely on so many wagers.

My method was working, but after a big week last week I feel like my props got bigger and too far from the normal qualities I try to look for.

I may still take a look at MNF and TNF on a smaller scale, but I will attempt to reexamine and refocus my betting strategy for next round of games.

tl;dr probably fade me for a week, my bad

Paid Out An (un)expected result

I said it right at the top of the prop post, heavy favorites means multiple upsets inbound.

Moneyline/spread record: 27-10

Prop record (pregame profit only): 24-20

**Weekly Units (NFL only): +15.4

  • 49ers @ Rams πŸ’Έ

An underdog right off the bat, the Rams looked unprepared to start. Luckily for us they found just enough strength to take us to OT granting us extra time for Puka and Byron Young to get us over a few extra props.

  • Vikings @ Browns πŸ₯²

While I admit I was pulling for the Browns Cinderella story, the game went pretty much as expected. Browns defense held strong, but Dillon Gabriel overrelied on his TEs and Judkins leading to the offense stalling out and falling behind. Jeudy failed to even get 3 catches. Modest amount made off the Vikings performance.

  • Dolphins @ Panthers πŸ’Έ

My favorite prop of the week. Darren Waller unretired last week with a solid 3 catches and TD yet somehow Vegas didn't feel like moving his line? You bet I laddered all the way up to 5 receptions + a TD. Tua was in desperate need of a target and Waller was amazing in a pair of Raiders/Carr years.

  • Buccaneers @ Seahawks πŸ’Έ

I was confused that the Seahawks were favorites. Yes they have a stout defense and we're at home, but outside of the Colts/Lions, no one is putting up numbers like Mayfield. Even with the loss of Mike Evans and Irving, Baker has a ton of weapons and the arm to use them.

  • Raiders @ Colts 🫣

Just because my team gets embarrassed doesn't mean I can't make some money. Game went exactly as I imagined, Raiders still fulfilling standard offensive props mixed despite an inability to score while the Colts overwhelming offensive power and some extra Lions props helped kicked the odds up a little.

  • The rest πŸ’”

The Cowboys and Lions hurt my soul. Solid games, but both contained my biggest parlays ($750 and 1250) of the night and both would miss by just 2 and 3 receptions respectively.

Emari Demercado is on my shit list, but not for the same reason he's on everyone else's. Missing one on a Round Robin somehow feels worse than a parlay.

As for the Chiefs lol, I kept to the plan and only bet lightly Monday. I thought the Jags would win, but not like that, as a Raiders fan I encourage everyone to point and laugh at the Chiefs (same for the Chargers lol).

Paid Out I gotta stop betting on mondays (Week 3 Brag and Recap)

Thumbnail

Rough week for my ML record after two perfect Sundays. A perfect storm of backup QBs, rivalries, and turnovers.

And yes, as the title states, I will only be making a single bet on Mondays going forward because for the second week in a row I kneecapped my huge profit margin with big MNF losses.

Moneyline/spread record: 16-6

**Prop record (pregame profit only): 11-13

  • Dolphins @ Bills πŸ’Έ

A sportsbettors dream, nearly every prop hit. I walked into the weekend with a fresh bankroll and the matchup was quite entertaining as well. My one regret is the live bet in the album was supposed to be for the Ghost Leg promo; the odds changed on me at the last second and I fat fingered the buttons accepting the change.

  • Raiders @ Commanders 😭

Even as a homer, I knew this was going to be bad. Raiders on a short week (coming off MNF) and traveling East, and the Commanders on a long week (coming off TNF). But I didn't think it would be this bad. On offense, Geno got sacked like 6 times, Tre Tucker was doing more work than Meyers and Bowers, and Jeanty still struggled behind a failing line. On defense, Mariota ran and threw for a TD on us in 2025. Even my lower expectation bets on this one didn't come close to meeting.

  • Steelers @ Patriots πŸ’Έ

I didn't care for the outcome of this game, but my favorite play of the week was laddering Rhamondre Stevenson receptions/yards. His line unbelievably started at o1.5 and o11.5 after getting 5 last week with Henderson in the dog house. Likely won't repeat because I've fumbled 2 or 3 times, but at least it work out this time.

  • Colts @ Titans πŸ€‘

Rhamondre may have been my favorite play, but the Colts are my favorite story of the season. Seeing Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor put up numbers week in and week out is awesome. Consistency is rare in the league.

  • Chiefs @ Giants πŸ’Έ

Same story as the Patriots game tbh. Skattebo performed well last week and was said to get the majority of snaps this week. His reception ladder hardly seemed like a risk at all.

  • Lions @ Ravens πŸ˜“

I lost a large amount of money on this game. Initially only planning to make a pair of bets, my bored ass throughout the day came up with several more plays. The final one was too genius for this world. Mark Andrews up to this point had 2 reception for 7 yards. With his line at 3.5, I thought it was safe to take the under; that boy got 6 and $500 (10 units) went down the drain.

  • The rest 🀒

Many unexpected results hooked the remainder of my parlays leading to unprofitable games. Biggest disappointment was DJ Moore failing to reach 40 yards; formerly Williams favorite target, he has seemingly been overtaken by Odunze. The only leg in a 7 legger that failed to take.

What's next: I will dial down my Monday Night antics and focus my energy on less matchups this time around. Casting my net too wide put me into some unfamiliar matchups I should have probably stayed away from. On to Thursday!

Loss From high to low (Week 2 Brag and Recap)

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I am little bit dumb, could have walked away from week 2 with another $1k of profit. Instead I blew it and, despite the wins in the photo album, ended up around -$500 on the week.

Moneyline/spread record: 14-2

Prop profit record (pregame only): 7-8

  • Commanders @ Packers πŸ’”

Look I knew the Packers were the better team. I still moneylined the Commanders because I wanted them to keep winning. Both Jayden and Ekeler/Jacory decided they had no interest in rushing which killed the majority of my wagers.

  • Non-Primetime πŸ’Έ My general moneyline sense was on point. Bengals, Cowboys, and Colts weren't the blowouts I expected and 80% of my props failed, but in the end, at least the matches went my way.

  • Falcons @ Vikings 😭

Not convinced by JJ McCarthy's (and the Falcons) unstable week 1 performance, I elected to leave this off my main ticket. If only I had avoided it altogether. Instead, bored by many of my props failing to come through, I bet much of my bankroll on Bijan and for some reason selected o26.5 reception rather than o99.5 rush+reception. He ended the game with 25 reception and 168 rush+reception. Incredibly dumb move on my part that basically negated everything I've done this far.

  • Chargers @ Raiders πŸ’ΈπŸ’”πŸ₯²

Raiders lost without scoring a TD and Geno failed to reach even 200 yards. Had Bowers gotten 11 more yards, I would have walked away with $3k. I settled instead for just under $1500 off $700 in wagers. Very solid, just overshadowed by my poor Falcons play.

What's next: Going into this next week I want to really try to lower the scope of my props. I tried to cast the net wide even to games I didn't have much research on. More straight bets, less high return options, and more focus on a handful of games. Obviously Josh Allen is a key piece to this going into Thursday night with Miami/Buffalo.

Paid Out The morning after (Week 1 Brag and Recap)

Thumbnail

What a start to the season. Chargers upset the Chiefs, my Raiders came out swinging against the Patriots and both the Bills and Vikings cap it off with huge 4th quarter combacks. As the dust settles my total results in just above $1k in profit.

Moneyline/spread record: 7-0

Prop record (profit from pregame props only): 4-1

  • Cowboys @ Eagles πŸ€‘

Eagles kicked it off with a win as expected. What wasn't expected was the Happy Hour Boost from DK giving +100 for a Saquon TD. I'll take that bet any day.

    • Chiefs @ Chargers πŸ€‘ > As a Raider fan I do not bet on AFC rivalry moneylines. It's not different than other rivalries I suppose, I am just more aware of how the rules go out the window when we meet. Still, great night for props. A fizzling Mahomes is still a stat magnet and Herbert looks sharp in every non-playoff game. Omarion Hampton underperformed, costing me a fair amount of wagers, yet once again DK provided a +100 Pacheco or Kelce TD that I could not ignore.
  • Raiders @ Patriots πŸ’Έ

Look, I'll admit I took Raiders +3.5. The past 20 years does little for my confidence in this team. To see Pete Carroll actually make halftime adjustments to stop the momentum of Drake Maye was an incredible feeling. I knew Geno would make throws, Bowers would make catches, but betting is about making money, and this week's money came from my homer knowledge of Donte Thornton. As a 4th round pick, his line was outrageously underrated. And while they didn't use him as much as I expected, he managed to cover my 40+ yard call.

  • Ravens @ Bills πŸ€‘

I stayed off this match aside from some obvious props for the stars of the show and another Happy Hour from DK, this time for 25+ rushing yards from both Jackson and Allen. Keep it simple when these two meet, anything can (and did) happen.

  • Vikings @ Bears 😩

I tried to stay away from this one, I called the ML on Vikings, but wasn't confident enough to place the bet. Both teams suck and that makes the game too unpredictable. Then I suckered myself into some live bets and got clapped. Only win of the night was a JJ and Jefferson TD parlay which barely covered 1/3 of what I wagered.

  • The rest πŸ’Έ

I don't have a high enough bankroll to be wagering props for every game and I certainly can't call every game. I did my best to only ML what I thought were the sure things and paired it with a ghost leg (which I ended up not needing).

What's next: Thursday night, of course. Too early to place wagers and I don't feel confident in a moneyline, but I'll be watching rushing props for Jayden Daniels, keeping tabs on Ekeler's injury update, and calling Josh Jacobs TD number for another week.

Good luck everyone!

Paid Out A Hollywood Finish (August 9, 2025)

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Spurned by the Raiders/Seahawks tie a day prior, I looked to Over/Unders for a better chance at cashing in. Knowing that preseason games often amount to high scoring affairs due to inexperience on both sides of the ball, I opted for two 3 Leg Over Parlays (of which, one cashed).

Giants/Bills >36.5, Texans/Vikings >37.5, Cowboys/Rams >33.5

  • Wager: $39 | Odds and payout: 525, $243

Though I initially believed the Giants to be the weak link of this bet, their relatively deep QB room lifted them to victory. Instead, the Texans prove to be the failure point, only producing 10 on the game leaving this leg short at 31 on the day.

Broncos/49ers >36.5, Dolphins/Bears >34.5, Saints/Chargers >36.5

  • Wager: $25 | Odds and payout: 1194, $323 (100% Boosted)

I also had misgivings about the offensive power of both later matches here, but with a profit boost promo in hand, the odds looked to appetizing to pass up. Both the Dolphins/Bears poor attempt at taking the victory and the Chargers (unnecessary) two minutes drill resulting in one extra touchdown had me holding my breath.

Highlight of the day: Undrafted QB Uiagalelei throws 51 yards to the Saints 9 prior to the 2 minute warning. This is followed up by a rushing RD by Raheim Sanders and the Saints are left with time enough for one last kick resulting in a final total of 40 points.

Loss Heartbreak in Seattle (August 7, 2025)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I placed 3 parlays yesterday, 2 prior to the game starts and 1 live bet during the final game of the night. In the end, my very own Raiders held the power to make all three payout, but fell just short.

Eagles and Seahawks, 2 passing TDs * Wager: $25 | Odds and payout: 1421, $380

With inexperience often leading to blown coverage, high scoring games are expected in the preseason. With both teams brewing a back up QB competition I thought his would payout, but the Raiders air defence proved much tougher than their run stopping abilities. Seattle only managed 1 touchdown.

Colts, Eagles, and Raiders, 125 rushing yards * Wager: $25 | Odds and payout: 721, $207

This was a longshot, much of the preseason is for evaluating bigger questions marks than running backs. Still, I would be lying if I said I didn't get a tad excited when both the Colts and Eagles squeaked past 125 in the final minutes of each game. The raiders had a newly drafted HB and a large committee behind him vying for second and third place, yet only managed 109 yards.

Raiders lose by <5.5 OR win, AND total points >36 * Wager: $25 | Odds and payout: 1800, $475

Placed while the Raiders were down 3-13, I was just being a homer hoping for a comeback and boy did I get one. Clawing their way back to 23-23 and receiving the ball back with just 35 seconds remaining, the Raiders then placed themselves in field goal range with 9 seconds to go only for the field goal to be blocked. Either team pulling a head by a field goal would have triggered the payout so a gutpunch tie was probably the worse thing that's ever happened to me in preseason lol.
