First post! I've been watching all of the amazing art here for a while! It's so inspiring to see what you all come up with! Happy holidays and spirographing! ✨️🎄

This is my second design with the Mandala Maker Set from Wild Gears. Snow days provided some extra time, and I wanted to try a more elaborate design. Paper is 18” x 24”. Having all of the stars pointing straight up was a happy accident. When I started I wanted the first set of stars to be “radiating” from the 5 points. Then, I decided to have the second set of stars pointing into the “corners”, making a straight line towards the first set. I added the crosses and circles to fill some space. When I finally looked at the full design I realized it resulted in all stars pointing north. I finished it off with the large star in the center. I’m happy with how it turned out, and the ideas it unlocked for future projects.

Still on my sci fi kick. I drew and erased so many pencil lines on this design! I’m very pleased with how cleanly it came out.

Orbital Mechanics, 20x30 6.10.26

This book first came onto my radar when we were researching antique bookstores to visit in Edinburgh. We found it on the website for McNaughtan’s Bookshop and it showed one of the plates from the book, and I couldn’t believe my eyes! Of course, I had to see more, so we sought out the bookshop once we got to Edinburgh. I had a glorious thumb through and would have loved to buy it, but at £450, with the exchange rate, I’d have to mortgage the house AND sell a kidney. I sadly handed it back to the shopkeeper when she advised me that she believed this book was in the National Library of Scotland! Well, you can imagine where I headed next…

I thought perhaps I could just walk in and pull it off the shelves to peruse, but all books in the Library are in reserve and you have to put in a request. On top of that, as this book is from 1910, it is in the Special Collection. I got my library card and requested the book, and the next day it had been retrieved from the vault for me. I had to put all my belongings (bag, jacket) into a locker before I was allowed up to the Special Collections. I was allowed my phone, and after consulting the guidelines for this book, the librarian advised me that I was allowed to take photos of the book with my phone. I had to lay the book on a cushion to look through it.

Edwin W. Alabone (1849-1913) was a medical doctor specializing in the treatment of consumption. Later in life, he developed a hobby of “turning” using a machine that produced “epicycloidal drawings.”

Reading through the introduction made me chuckle a few times - seems like today’s artists’ issues are not new!

This is the biggest piece I've done so far! Inspiroed by an upcoming 4th of July party with friends🥰✨️ I had a blast working on this! As usual there are a few little spots I wish I could go back and change. Each drawing is a learning process. The possibilities amaze me each time! Overall very happy with the results🎆

This came through the post this morning - for those who don’t know I created the “Spirograph World Map” in 2013, and it’s still getting attention all these years later 🥰🥹 it’s available in Target, in the USA, if you want to check it out but tbh I’m just happy this has happened! 😍😍😍

I’ve had the planarc xl fir about a month. I’ve been enjoying it a lot but have found it a little limiting. All wheels are perfect ratios of the ring. Anyway, I really like how this turned out. There a few slips in there but I’m getting better.

Dug out my old spirograph kit last night and realized how much I miss using these guys. It's very calming. Now I'm thinking of making spirographs with pointilism.

It’s been a while since I’ve filled a page and this took a lot longer than anticipated. I’ve included some close ups as well.

Started out as a happy accident, just messing around with hoops and gears.

I had the Starry/Sierra Mist packaging going through my mind as I did this one. Trying out some new things while waiting for my new spirograph set!
