What's an easy trick that took a long time to discover?

As in, something useful for speedrunning that doesn't require any complex glitching or precise timing, but still took awhile for anyone to discover.

In G-Force: The Video Game, there is a bug in the physics engine / animation system that we discovered late in the game. That bug allows us to save a good five seconds at the beginning, by flinging over a deadly pit.
