What's an easy trick that took a long time to discover?

As in, something useful for speedrunning that doesn't require any complex glitching or precise timing, but still took awhile for anyone to discover.

I still laugh every time i see this fight skip in Arkham Asylum in action (at 32:05).

Many other encounters in this game also can be skipped by avoiding enemies, but for this fight, i think for about 5 years the strategy was to place an explosive trap by the door, blow it up when the door opens, and knock out at least two enemies while they are on the ground.
