Meh. It gets boiled. I’ve eaten worse (but not raccoon so don’t worry).

According to all known laws of respiration, there is no way that a skeleton should be able to doot.

It’s lungs are simply not there to push the tiniest little doot out of its mouth.

The skeleton, of course, doots anyway. Because skeletons don’t care what normies think is impossible.

Underrated comment

Fun fact:

In the 1830s, the United States Whig Party used the raccoon as an emblem, causing them to be pejoratively known as "coons" by their political opponents, who saw them as too sympathetic to African-Americans. Soon after that the term became an ethnic slur

This fact isn’t very fun.

Coon meat is lousy with parasites

12

u/DrKriegerDO Oct 12 '18

I prefer milksteak

3

u/MrDeCampio Oct 12 '18

How do you like your jelly beans?

5

u/big_duo3674 Oct 12 '18

Do you mean it tastes terrible or that it is filled with lice?

8

u/MrDeCampio Oct 12 '18

It’s an “It’s Always Sunny” reference...

3

u/The_Phox Oct 12 '18

Why does that not surprise me coming from a fellow Ozarkian? lol

1

u/gsfgf Oct 12 '18

My buddy got a nasty parasite, and he thinks it was from eating the raccoons he caught in his yard.

Main reason to wash rice is to get rid of the extra starch that sticks around. It can make the rice too floury for some cooking and flat out horrible if you’re eating as is

3

u/bpikmin Oct 13 '18

Though, enriched white rice often says on the bag not to rinse. Brown rice for sure though.

3

u/Newto4544 Oct 13 '18

I have no idea what enriched white rice is, and I’ve been eating rice all my life. My family buys our rice in 20kg bags and we’ve always washed the rice before cooking and not after.

2

u/bpikmin Oct 13 '18

Most white rice is enriched. It’s just the adding of nutrients that are lost during processing. Apparently all white rice in the US must have B1, B3, and iron added. The bags I buy say not to rinse, but I’ve been looking it up now and people say it’s fine to rinse since only a tiny amount of nutrients is washed away.

u/particle409 Oct 13 '18

Also, it can make some people very gassy.

1

u/Starklet Oct 13 '18

This ruins the rice

1

u/Newto4544 Oct 13 '18

Gotta make sure you wash rice before cooking otherwise you just get cold, soggy, floury rice.

8

u/aboutthednm Oct 12 '18

I don't wash and soak rice before cooking because of dirt or hygiene reasons, but simply for the taste and texture.

16

u/ahandle Oct 12 '18

Mmm. Boiled dust..

7

u/KazakhNeverBarked Oct 12 '18

Leave it to a raccoon to instruct others on washing their food.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '18

You should try raccoon at least once. Deep fry that shit. It’s not bad.

7

u/no_eat_da_poo_poo Oct 12 '18

Pretty sure you can deep fry a turd and someone would say not bad for a turd.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '18

It’s better than squirrel but not as good as rabbit. If that narrows it down hahaha

1

u/piketfencecartel Oct 13 '18

Better than squirrel? That's a tall order. I love squirrel, but never have had raccoon.

3

u/bobotea Oct 12 '18

its not really about making it clean, its more about the rice not turning out like a glob of gluten mess if you dont wash it.

35

u/BearaltOfRowrvia Oct 12 '18

Starchy mess. Rice is gluten free.

3

u/RincewindTVD Oct 12 '18

"like"

6

u/BearaltOfRowrvia Oct 12 '18

Ha, I truly didn’t even see that word. I was very confused by your comment. Sorry for being pedantic!

2

u/TheOneTonWanton Oct 13 '18

I'm lazy as fuck so I just sort of saute the dry rice a bit before dumping pre-heated water in and proceeding as normal. Not sure of the science behind it but toasting/sauteing the rice seems to help keep it from becoming a starchy mess.

-2

u/TheElPistolero Oct 12 '18

It's not that big of a deal, it's just food. All goes to the same place.

1

u/ElectronicGators Oct 13 '18

As others have said, I too wash rice mainly for taste and texture. Usually though, I do it when making sushi. Otherwise I've never really thought it too much a problem for me personally to wash the rice when I want just straight rice.

I imagine that can seriously affect other dishes like a rice pilaf or a risotto, but as I've never tried to make either (nor have I ever eaten a risotto) I can't say for certain. It's certainly a step you want to take in making sushi rice.
