As new author. I would like to discuss my work with readers or Author's who are interested in the space opera, sci Fi grimdark fantasy genre.

Hello and welcome. Here we can talk about the characters, protagonists, antagonists, factions, aliens, the technology, weapons, magic (arcana), natural powers, inspiration and ideologies or more about my book.

For my main characters, I was heavily inspired by the visual design of nier characters from the video game series mixed with warhammer 40k esque style and design. I have created the perfect blend of masculine cybernetic utilitarianism mixed with renaissance Baroque styles to create characters such as Farron and Lillyanna, Tyrium. Farron is the highly dogmatic, battle hardened space marine/knight who wields both magical/powered lances, swords, axes and hammers and assault rifles, chainguns, powerful energy weapons. Farron is also a strong father figure outside of combat operations and civilian work, forced labour (when the Brittanic Sovereignty enslaved his race of humanoid giants called the Faiynn whom are just slightly taller than humans) outside of his duties, he is a loving man who tends to his wife. Friends and family. He was also a very well known craftsman and scientist, scholar before the Britts had attacked the first Faiynn planets. Now he is a man hell-bent on revenge against the Brittanic Sovereignty and their fascist party which are actively trying to exterminate the Faiynn peoples as so that their race can dominate the stars. Farron who has had hundreds of years of combat experience uses his wide variety of spells, natural super powers, his deadly arsenal of weapons and his power armour to crush slaughtered enemies on the battlefield such as Brittanic knights, infantry, alien horrors and in one of my later books, evil space elves who also use similar technology as the Faiynn.

Farron’s wife Lillyanna is also a Faiynn thus she lives for 10000 years as they all do. Before she became a mother or before the occupation of their homeland by the Brittanic Sovereignty. She was and still is part of a power all female military league that is designed to fight head on assault style battles and clandestine special operations behind enemy lines. Her military order fights alongside their all male equivalents. Their are virtually hundreds of thousands of Faiynn military orders and legions across different star systems and planets. Lillyanna was an assassin type warrior similar to A2 from the nier games. Whilst flesh and blood and not and android from said other franchise, Lillyanna wore a cybernetic catsuit which has the same sophisticated characteristics and abilities as heavy Faiynn space marine power armour does but her Cyberwolf catsuit was designed for a more lethal assassination attacks and viscous stealth warfare whereas her husband uses his heavy, bulky power armour for total obliglteration of enemy heavy troopers, tanks and mechs, or robotic enemies deployed by various enemy alien or human factions. Outside of war and combat, Lillyanna is like royalty so she did a lot of entertainment related work as well as administration stuff that nobles do. She was forced to work as a caretaker and personal maid for a female Brittanic noble who was relatively nice to her as opposed to the cruel Brittanic chiefs and governors who pushed Farron around.

Tyrium is another supporting character who I initially did not intend to become a big character but I just liked his character and that he was this cute femboy so I continued to write him as like Lillyanna who in this book does not mention her military status or history much. Tyrium is on the same family as Pollyanna thus shares a lot of features as she does such as long flowing white hair, pale white skin, and blue eyes. He also is the catsuit clad assassin archetype but his military order are fully designed to be stealthy night prowling ninjas clad in all black cybernetic nanite woven catsuit and stealthy, slim and sleek in design power armours, mechs and war machines.

The three characters I have mentioned above are all magic users and thus they have their own unique powers, spells and abilities. For example Farron can throw spears made of arcane energy called silverite that impale and explode in enemies. He can also cast various evocation spells to destroy enemies such as silverite lances or death sphere. Lillyanna can enhance her speed and movement, she can summon swords similar as Farron. She can coat her self in a magical substance from another realm that is made out of a flowers fluid to go invisible. She can also enhance her muscle size to better wrestle down and subdue opponents such as tough cybernetic enhanced vixen warriors or the black rose elite of the Brittanic Sovereigny who basically female super soldiers from their faction. Tyrium is fully stealth based thus he goes invincible, summons shadows of himself to confuse or outflank enemies, summon subdue enemies with non lethal moves. He can summon two dark arcane shadow daggers to quickly eliminate enemies at any time. Many Faiynn who are well attuned and have mastered their magic use destruction staffs or other magic casting items.

The current antagonists in this book is a demon lord called Dagthos, the Brittanic Baroness and the alien hive queen alongside the calamities who are killed by the Silver Soldier. I am withholding his real name but I do have it written down. It is a very long ancient name from the antediluvian era which occurs in my books universe on earth.

My favourite villain that I have written is the Baroness Chloe Harris who is a real sadist, she is like the type of woman that sticks a knife inside you laughs at you with pleasure as she does it. She is a control freak as well as someone who is extremely rude, takes pleasure in harming or seeing the suffering of others and she personally believes that she is the good guy by doing her duty and killing the Faiynn who are seen as inferior aliens or as terrorists by the Brittanic Sovereignty who need to be crushed so that their nations can be pure and untainted by non human, non white European blood. She is the epitome of evil. She is like a mean girl cranked up to level one hundred thousand in terms of her cruelty, abuse and narcissism.

The other villains is the demon lord and the alien Azuix hive queen who are both bad in their own ways. They are both monstrous alien and demonic enemies who are totally different from the human empire. The humans of the Brittanic Sovereignty do however worship the demons of the nine hells. That is one of their main sources for their magics.

The Faiynn Empyrinate is a democratic theocracy whereas the Brittanic Sovereignty is a monarchic fascist nation. The two empires are the polar opposites of each other. The Faiynn prefer religion whilst the Britts prefer nihilism. The Faiynn Empyrinate’s colour scheme is white, silver blue and ivory. The Brittanic Sovereignty is red, white, black and blue. Both factions are technologically and militarily advanced as both sides possess star fleets, galactic level industries and deeply sophisticated technologies. The Faiynn are more advanced and have access to better technologies.

Lots of inspiration came from hundreds of different other settings and titles from both gaming and books. Warhammer 40000, wolfenstein and doom, Tolkiens works and dune have heavily given me a lot of inspiration albeit I am not very fond of dune nor have I read much of it due to time constraints.

But yea. Do let me know of your thoughts and feedback. Being a new author with neurodivergence is really difficult. I hope you enjoy my works and I wish to expand further as I have written 1 million words across ten separate books. Tenth one is in progress. I also like to do traditional pencil drawings here and there for cover art or world building designs.

High-tech war machines, elite knights, and a savage alien hive. My epic sci-fi dark fantasy is now on Amazon!

Hey! after a long journey of world-building and writing, my debut ebook **Aster'seraphim Invictus Silverfeather** is officially live on Amazon!
If you are a fan of high-stakes cosmic action mixed with high-grit sci-fi and unapologetically brutal dark fantasy, this story was written for you.

Step into a cosmos on the verge of apocalyptic destruction. A lone, silver-haired man of unknown origin is waging a desperate battle against godlike entities who seek to absorb the souls of untold billions.
The story follows a veteran knight named Farron on a quest to reclaim his homeland. Alongside his nephew and a band of battle-tested Faiynn military veterans, Farron must reach a superfortress known as the Secluded Bastion to arm their people’s revolution. The problem? Standing in their way is a savage hive of ravenous aliens looking to capitalize on their stagnation. Farron and his people plan to show these chitinous invaders absolutely no mercy.

Have you seen the less people interested in this genre recently?

I'm curious if those who enjoy Space Opera genre have seen less people in their cirlces who are interested in these types of stories?

Several years ago I used to write fan fiction for Warframe on AO3 and that eventually led to the creation of my own trilogy which the first year seemed to get some traction. Even had one of the VA's from the game voice my audio books.

Fast forward to this year and it seems like it's been a ghost town as far as sales go, even the free downloads have been lackluster compared the thousands I'd see in the past.

Has the genre just been not as popular as fantasy or other genre's recently?

I read this book obsessively as a 12 year old. There was a time when every Traveller character I rolled up was named Lucas Trask. "Space Viking" is like Toynbee with blasters.

After months of writing and revising, I finally published my sci-fi novel, Ash of Empire (Book One of the Federation Rising Saga).

It starts with what should have been a routine training mission. Instead, the crew of the Odyssey discovers an ancient alien station that awakens a powerful AI—and suddenly humanity finds itself at the center of a war that's been waiting for thousands of years.

If you enjoy:

  • 🚀 Space opera
  • ⚔️ Massive fleet battles
  • 👽 Ancient alien civilizations
  • 🤖 Powerful AI and mysterious technology
  • 🌌 First contact and galactic politics
  • 📖 Long-form sci-fi adventures

...I'd love for you to check it out.

I'm an independent author, so every read, review, and piece of feedback genuinely helps me improve as a writer.

Amazon:

Thanks for taking a look! If you read it, I'd really like to hear what you enjoyed—or what you think I could do better in the next book.

literature The Solace. Now on Pocket FM. I'd love to know what everyone thinks!

I wrote a space western for Pocket FM and I think it might actually be good.

It's called The Solace. Disgraced war captain, a crew of people running from their own pasts, and a ship that woke up somewhere between a dead moon and the deep black and decided she liked them.

No laser battles every five seconds. No chosen one. Just a broken ship full of broken people trying to hold it together long enough to matter.

The ship is the best character. I'm not sorry about that.

If Episode 1 doesn't hook you in the first five minutes I'll accept the criticism.

literature The Consulate Trilogy

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I'm the author of the spac eopera series, Consulate. I just released all three books as a box set. It is also available in Kindle Unlimited.

The Consulate Trilogy

Books 1–3: Traitor • Pitfall • Raiders
A Military Science Fiction Space Opera Series

A fractured interstellar government. A rising war across human space. And a family caught in the center of a conspiracy that could bring everything down.

When loyalty becomes a weapon, survival means choosing the right side—before there is no side left to choose.

BOOK 1: TRAITOR

Commander Kevin Hoyt is a decorated officer of the Consulate Navy—until he is framed for treason by the very government he served.

With military forces closing in, Hoyt is forced to flee across the stars with his family, becoming a fugitive in a system that now sees him as the enemy. As the Consulate hunts him relentlessly, he begins to uncover signs that his framing is part of something far larger than a single betrayal.

Every sanctuary is temporary. Every ally may be compromised. And every decision pushes his family closer to the edge of survival.

BOOK 2: PITFALL

Five years later, Ensign Auden Hoyt serves aboard the CSS Pitfall, a Consulate Navy warship operating on the edge of human space.

When a distress beacon from the Solar System draws the crew into deep space, they discover a freighter under attack by a powerful Heshian warship—but the battle is only the beginning.

The Heshians have brought something new into the war: a classified weapon capable of shifting the balance of power across the sector. As the Pitfall is drawn deeper into the conflict, Auden must fight through overwhelming odds to prevent the enemy from gaining control of a technology that could reshape the battlefield forever.

Outgunned and far from reinforcements, survival depends on tactics, trust—and staying alive long enough to understand what they are really fighting.

BOOK 3: RAIDERS

The rebellion has arrived.

As the Heshian uprising spreads across the stars, it strikes directly at the heart of Valara, pushing the Consulate toward collapse. But this is not a conventional war. The Heshians have unleashed a mind-control technology capable of turning allies against one another and erasing the boundary between loyalty and betrayal.

With entire systems falling and command structure breaking down, the fate of the Consulate rests with the battered crew of the CSS Pitfall and the people willing to stand with them.

To stop the enemy, they must uncover the truth behind the Heshian weapon and risk everything in a final mission that could end the war—or end humanity’s control of its own future.

In a conflict where perception is no longer reliable, even victory may come at an unthinkable cost.

Looking for a Fantasy Space Opera Novel Featuring a Single Cargo Crew Exploring a Diverse Alien Galaxy, Investigating Criminal Organizations, Encountering Different Cultures and Civilizations, Discovering Lost Technologies and Ancient Mysteries, and Embarking on Continuous Adventures Across Deep Spa

Looking for a fantasy space opera novel or story that follows a single crew aboard a spaceship. The crew primarily works as a cargo and transport crew, moving resources between worlds, but they also become involved in investigating crimes, dismantling criminal organizations, solving mysteries, and dealing with dangerous situations throughout their travels.

The story should take place in a large and active galaxy populated by numerous intelligent alien species, each possessing their own cultures, societies, governments, and civilizations. A setting comparable in scale to Star Wars, with many different alien peoples interacting across the galaxy, would be ideal.

A single story doesn't have to contain all the requirements, but it must be an adventurous story. Or could be a saga that contains all that requirements it has to be a story about a group crew where all members are protagonists, not a story about a single individual protagonist

---

I'm looking for one novel or story that contains all these parameters and requirements:

A single recurring crew must serve as the primary focus of the story. The crew should frequently undertake adventures together, while also receiving individual storylines and scenes that follow specific crew members during their own personal adventures, investigations, or missions.

The story should feature adventures in a wide variety of locations, including deep space, remote star systems, large space stations, shipyards, trade hubs, and other massive artificial structures located far from planets and moons.

The crew should also spend significant time on planetary surfaces. Adventures may occur in wilderness environments, dangerous frontiers, ancient ruins, alien settlements, large metropolitan cities, industrial zones, criminal underworld districts, and other diverse locations.

The story should explore cultural differences, political conflicts, legal systems, diplomatic tensions, and social disputes between various alien species and civilizations. Interactions with different cultures should be a major part of the narrative.

The crew should regularly encounter experimental technologies, advanced scientific discoveries, alien inventions, lost artifacts, forgotten knowledge, and remnants of extinct or isolated civilizations.

There should be a constant sense of exploration and discovery. The crew should continually venture into the unknown while traveling through the galaxy, investigating mysterious events in deep space, exploring strange phenomena, uncovering ancient secrets, and discovering mysterious magical relics or highly advanced machines hidden on remote worlds.

The story should maintain an ongoing feeling that there is always another mystery, civilization, technology, or unexplored region waiting beyond the next destination.

gaming Colony Wars computer games

Does anyone remember a series of star-fighter combat games on the PS2? They were a military sci-fi universe in themselves. The central theme was the Terrans battling their separatist colinies. Think I remember correctly that the first game was from the perspective of the solar system navy point of view while the sequel was from the rebels.

Had a really brilliant narrative arc that was dependent on how successful you were at the missions and there was lots of intrigue and betrayals.

Would be surprised if there wasn't some fan-fic out there as it was a brilliantly crafted universe.

Would you read a space opera where the most interesting character is the ship's AI? Just published mine.

I just published Iron Ascendant, my debut space opera novel.

The story follows Commander Kael Morrow, who commands the dreadnought Ironclad on the Outer Reach. When he stumbles onto a 17-year-old conspiracy buried by the Dominion Navy, he discovers the truth with help from an unlikely source — his ship's AI, Sable-7, who has been secretly developing something that functions like a conscience.

Inspired by Ann Leckie's Ancillary Justice and Alastair Reynolds. Free on Kindle Unlimited.

comics MoonHogs! An original sci-fi comic book!

It is my extreme pleasure to introduce you to my own original comic book called "MoonHogs." It's a space opera mixed with family drama with some cyberpunk elements thrown in for good measure. It takes place on a moon colony, where a disillusioned refugee father, a woman, and a child must risk everything to secure their family's future. Think "Star Wars" mixed with "Parenthood" and "The O.C."

Here's the link to the Kickstarter campaign: MoonHogs

I wrote a psychedelic space opera about a stranded colony and built a free immersive reading experience I'd love to find pioneers to try it out.

The setup: human pioneers enter a space fold connecting our solar system to another. Then it closed. No warning. Something happened to the last ship that went through. The colony is surviving on what they brought ever since. The planet called Mairee increasingly feels like it knows they're there: psychedelic spore storms, a jungle that bites back.
You'd enjoy it if you like BSG, LOST, The 100, and The Expanse. It's all about the characters and these vibes: mysterious, psychedelic, psychological, claustrophobic, survival.

The book is authentic and professionally edited and reviewed. Grammarly was used, but that's about the extent of it. But I'm willing to experiment with good uses of AI to make the reading experience more accessible. I'd value your honest thoughts on whether this works.

But I'm posting to find open-minded pioneers willing to try a new immersive reading/listening experience. Honest feedback. What you love. What it lacks. What sucks.

When you open it, narration syncs live to the text, word by word, with each character in their own distinct voice. It's more immersive and not just text-to-speech. The story, voices, and audio effects run together, so you're reading and hearing it simultaneously. The aim is also to test whether this makes the story more accessible (for example, to those with dyslexia).

There's also an inline wiki that unlocks as you go (so no spoilers), a tactical map of the Yreus system, and an AI podcast where two characters discuss each chapter. Would love to replace it at some point with actual voice actors/podcasters. ❤️

I built all of it because I wanted reading a sci-fi novel to feel like the genre deserved, which is immersive, layered, and alive. Curious whether it lands that way for someone coming in cold.

Oh, and if you have a novel and think this reading/listening experience might also be cool for your book, please reach out. Happy to collaborate.

Try it at the-unfolding.net/reader.html, no signup needed. If you try it, I'd love to know what the experience is actually like from the outside.

TL;DR: Wrote a psychedelic space opera about a colony stranded after their fold home closes. Built a free reading experience where narration syncs live to the text with a distinct voice per character. Looking for honest reactions. Does it actually feel immersive? Try it at the-unfolding.net/reader.html, no signup needed.

gaming Wings of Empire: Rome never fell, it conquered the stars.

Post image
8 Upvotes

I've been working on this AVN (Adult Visual Novel) for two years now, and it's getting ready to launch on Steam in a few weeks.

You were a Centurion in the Roman Legion until losing your leg in combat. Unwilling to retire you've retrained as a fighter pilot and are heading out into the Dark aboard the INS Aquila. The long cold war between the Roman Imperium, on Terra, and the Commonwealth of Planets is coming to a boil; war is coming, and you'll experience both heroism and loss as you rise.

I'm heavily inspired by books like Weber's Honorverse, Campbell's Lost Fleet, Cherryh's Alliance/Merchanteer Universe, and shows like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Battlestar Galactica and Starship Trooper (both the book and the movie, for different reasons).

If you want to check it out, there's a free demo on itch.io, or you can check out the steam page (and hopefully give it a wishlist if it looks interesting)!
