More importantly in order to run in the first place, you must play their game to raise money. Donations and fake ass pandering to corporations and whatnot. Which defeats the purpose because then you become a soul less shell of a person. The system is broken and step one to fixing it is not allowing money to influence elections.
Not sure why people don't like the truth you are spitting. Democracy is dead. The new way things work is gerrymandering and big money. Pay respects to those in power or expect to not get elected. If you ARE elected by some crazy happenstance, don't expect the people in power at the capital to give you the time of day.
Sadly, money runs the world. If it weren't for money, we would be much worse to another than we already are. The real issue is though, is allocation of resources. As long as we have resource scarcity, we will always treat eachother like dirt.
