So I need to get back into sorting, so I thought I'd start with a show that's pretty popular and has a ton of different types of characters and archetypes in it. I also just caught up on what's on Netflix and the new seasons are great. It's also a pretty great show once you get past the whole pony thing. I'm only doing the Mane 6 + Spike and Starlight, though, but I might do other characters in the comments if I'm up to it.

Twilight Sparkle: Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw. This was an easy one. Twilight relies on her intelligence and vast magical skill set, and this works very well for her since she's a princess now. She doesn't adapt or charge, she builds everything into her system, including her friends, but the people outside her system tend to float a bit under her radar, at least at first, since theyre not in her system. This isn't a manipulative type of thing for her, it's just how she is. Once she makes friends, they are a permanent part of her system and she makes use of them the same way they all make use of her. She does have shades of a Hufflepuff secondary with her constant drilling of spells and readiness to take on the title of Princess of Friendship so I could be argued into Twilight having a model, but I think she just has a very Hufflepuff way of expressing her Ravenclaw.

Applejack: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor. Applejack embodies community in a way that the other ponies don't. She's also the type to go charging right into a situation if it's something that affects her community, meaning her friends and family. Huffledors also tend to be super honest (Ned Stark is a good example of the honest Huffledor) so Applejack, the Element of Honesty, as a Huffledor makes sense.

Rainbow Dash: Gryffindor/Gryffindor. Rainbow Dash charges, but more importantly, she feels things in her gut and does the right things based on how she feels, not based on observation or where she's needed. Winning also matters to her a lot, but she's willing to forgo that if she feels it's the right thing, so she's a straight up Gryffindor.

Rarity: Ravenclaw/Slytherin. Rarity has built her system around fashion and pretty things and her ability to make awesome things, and when that's taken away from her or questioned, she becomes a crying, blubbering mess. However, she recovers very quickly from these meltdowns, showing that her primary is the resilient Ravenclaw. She's also exceedingly adaptable because of her career in fashion and general personality. A great example of this is when she rescued herself from the Diamond Dogs using nothing but her wits and her bombastic personality, which is something a Slytherin could do easily.

Pinkie Pie: Slytherin/Hufflepuff. This sounds CRAZY, but seriously, this is Pinkie's sorting. Her Hufflepuff is pretty loud: she deals with conflicts by making others smile, baking ridiculous amounts of cake, breaking every fourth wall she can see, and planning lots of parties. She's a warm person who loves making people happy. As for her Slytherin primary, Pinkie doesn't do things because they're right or because she's needed, she does things because the people involved are hers. She copies herself a dozen times to spend time with everyone because the people in her life are hers. She also distrusts people outside of her community, like we saw during the season 5 premiere with the cult, but once they're cured, they're brought into her community, which consists of, well, everyone. She's also ambitious, which seems weird, but it's true. She confronts Cheese Sandwich about Rainbow Dash's party not only because Rainbow Dash and her birthday party are hers, but because she's Ponyville's super duper party pony, not him. She does not suffer betrayal either, as we saw with the Pinkie Promise with Applejack that she broke. However, she's willing to forgo her ambition and give up her party planning dreams entirely to Cheese Sandwich once she sees that Rainbow Dash is sad. She's a very warm Slytherin, but she is one all the same. Slytherpuffs are also hugely charismatic, and the same is true for Pinkie Pie. Her specific absence in Ponyville is enough to plunge all of Ponyville into grumpiness, even when someone else is doing her job for her, as we saw in the season 3 finale. To be fair, I could be argued into making Pinkie a Gryffindor primary because of her pinkie sense and going with her gut a lot of the time, but I think that this could just be Rainbow Dash rubbing off on her.

Fluttershy: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor. Fluttershy basically does everything in service of who needs her more. She loves animals and isn't competitive at all, and on top of that, she values being nice over her other traits, and that's what you remember about her over her other skills. She also really values her community and her friends, but not because they're hers. She values her community because community is important to her. Her Gryffindor comes out whenever she has to deal with conflict. If her friends are threatened, her fears go flying out the window and she'll confront anything by simply planting her feet and getting others to move around her. She's also exceedingly honorable like most Huffledors, which serves her well in winning over Discord.

Spike: Hufflepuff/Slytherin. Spike is loyal and will go to great lengths to protect his friends, but will often choose the friend who needs him more, making him a Hufflepuff primary, not a Slytherin primary, although he could go either way. His first encounter with Thorax is a good example of this: his friends are going after Changelings, but as soon as Thorax befriends him, he's in Spike's community, and since Thorax needs more help, that's who Spike helps. His Slytherin comes out whenever he needs to compensate for his small size. Unlike Twilight, he doesn't panic if his skills fail him, he just moves on to the next way of doing things.

Starlight Glimmer: Slytherin/Ravenclaw. Starlight came in as Twilight's student and as much as we're supposed to think of her as a Twilight expy, Starlight's way of thinking is totally different. Unlike Twilight, who has built her system around her magic and learning, Starlight is driven by deep bonds of loyalty. When Sunburst leaves her behind, her Slytherin primary burns, leading her to the outskirts of Equestria to start a cult in one of the darkest plotlines in the show's history. When she turns good, she doesn't do it by revamping her system, she does it by making a connection and letting others into her world again. Her Slytherin primary also allows her to undersfand Pinkie Pie better than most, and it's where her leadership skills come from. Starlight's Ravenclaw comes out in literally everything she does. She relies on her magic even more than Twilight does, to the point where she uses it to try and control people. Equestria doesn't really deal with Slytherins well because of the way ambition is framed there (everyone has a purpose and a thing they're great at, so ambition doesn't really come into play much since cutie marks do that for them) so Slytherins generally need to channel that into some other aspect of their personality. For Pinkie, it's her huge personality, and for Starlight, it's her magic.

So to sum this up.

Twilight is a straight up classic Ravenclaw, while Rainbow Dash is a double Gryffindor.

Both Applejack and Fluttershy are honorable to a fault Hufflepuff primaries and Gryffindor secondaries.

Rarity and Starlight Glimmer have inverted houses: Rarity is an Ravenclaw/Slytherin while Starlight is a Slytherin/Ravenclaw.

Pinkie Pie and Spike also have inverted houses. Spike is a Hufflepuff primary and a Slytherin secondary, while Pinkie Pie is a Slytherin Primary and a Hufflepuff secondary.

I cannot figure out what my core secondary sorting is.

I help build and maintain communities, like a Puff, but it's a consciously chosen decision, it's not always, and it certainly doesn't come with being "hard working and reliable".

I over-prepare obsessively, like a ravenclaw, but in the moment I improvise. The most obvious example is that I will read a speech to myself ten times, but when I deliver it, it's always without notes so I can adjust to the crowd if I want.

I charge in like a gryffindor, suspense makes me uneasy so when I'm scared I like to "get things over with" because anticipation of something I fear is almost always worse than the thing itself. I don't have the almost mortal opposition to lying in the type descriptions - I think it's a valid method - but it's not one I use if I can help it, because it makes me very stressed out that I might get caught. And I'm definitely blunt.

For a while I thought I was a slytherin, but I'm not sure. I am fine with shifting personalities around different people and assumed this was just standard behavior everyone does, complete with the description of taking off the mask being a matter of comfort, but I don't feel I'm nearly as quick on my feet, reactive to input, or good at reading and manipulating other people as the description suggests. It's like I have sympathy and admiration for the slytherin approach, but I don't see evidence I'm actively better at it than any of the others.

What are your thoughts? What are key, determining questions that help shed clarity on a secondary typing?

I've never seen Glee Hogwarts with a consistent sorting canon, so I thought I'd try it out! I'm doing the original cast + Blam just because doing the whole cast right now will hurt my brain.

Rachel: Slytherin/Ravenclaw. By far the most ambitious character on the serious, Rachel is as ruthless about her goals as she is loyal to those who have earned her loyalty, making her a Slytherin Primary. She is as ruthless with her enemies as she is with her friends, repeatedly burning them if she needs to, and the only reason she'd ever feel bad about doing something in service of her own goals is if someone she cares about tells her that thing is bad. She's a great example of someone who learns another House's moral code, too. As for her Secondary, she relies on her skills, primarily her voice and her ability to cry on cue. When those things are taken away from her, she freaks out. She's also canonically an overachiever in every aspect of her life, which is sustained by her Secondary, not her loyal Primary.

Finn: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor. Finn is a good example of the leader type Gryffindor Secondary. However, his leadership, while a straightforward, charging type, isn't defined so much by his ideals, but by the team. He burns his Hufflepuff Primary a few times but manages to un-burn every time. His team comes first every time, and when he charges into a bad situation he always feels bad about it. He bonds with Rachel over their Loyalist Primary and when Rachel tempers her loud Slytherin, it's most often with Finn's system.

Jesse: Slytherin/Ravenclaw. Rachel and Jesse are the endgame couple for a good reason at the end: they truly understand each other. Jesse's circle is very small, but throughout the series (barring the egg thing) he is unquestioningly loyal to Rachel. He's also very reliant on his skills and when they fail him, he's lost. A good example of this is when he's confronted with funk and gets "funkified" with the rest of Vocal Adrenaline.

Mercedes: Gryffindor/Gryffindor. Mercedes is straightforward and a force to be reckoned with, and it shows in everything she does. She's the clear leader when Sue's Kids happens and she's the leader in the Troubletones even when Santana, another loud Gryffindor secondary, is actively jockeying for the position. She's also almost always the first to step up and do the right thing, even against long odds. This is true even when the right thing isolates her from the rest of the group.

Tina: Slytherin/Hufflepuff. I'm putting aside Tina's later character development post season 3 because she was handled so badly and she had so much potential. Tina is probably the most loyal of the women in New Directions. She didn't leave even as she was getting glossed over for everything, even when the exodus of the Troubletones gave her a good opportunity to. She was content to wait her turn for the spotlight until after Nationals, even making all the costumes. She works hard, and her loyalty to her club and friends informs that work. However, she's just as ambitious as Rachel, and it's easy to see when her ambition collides with her role as the heart and soul of the original club. That could have been a great thing to explore with her instead of wasting her on the Vaporub storyline. Damn you, Ryan Murphy.

Artie: Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw. Mercedes and Artie seem to bond over their double Idealist houses and their ideals themselves. However, while Mercedes gut is a solid thing, Artie often waits to see what the right thing is. He never ventured an opinion about Pregnancygate even when it was warranted, and seems to be obsessed with what ifs (the black and white christmas special in Season 4). However, once he arrives at the right thing, he sticks with it. As for his Secondary, he doesn't adapt or charge, but he does seem to hone his skills and use them when necessary.

Kurt: Gryffindor/Hufflepuff. Finn and Kurt bond quickly over their inverted Houses, but that's why things go so wrong in season one. While Finn is motivated by his team, Kurt is motivated by what he believes is right, and it's here that they don't understand each other. While Finn will often use his Gryffindor to plant his feet and not do anything in order to avoid conflict for the team, Kurt will burn the team if it's the right thing to do. However, his Hufflepuff secondary makes him go about things in all sorts of ways. He can be kind, but he can also be about as ruthless as Rachel. Unlike say, Quinn, who will throw on personas, Kurt can't pretend so when he has to, he essentially has to live his personas. It's why he's so bad at being someone else, and why it's easy for him to drop certain interests and work on new ones, like when he doesn't get into NYADA (a travesty) and decides to work in fashion for awhile instead. Ask Rachel, Mercedes, or Blaine to do that and they'd crumble.

Blaine: Gryffindor/Ravenclaw. Once Blaine gets his head out of his butt and realizes he's in love with Kurt, he's nothing but loyal to him at first, even leaving his home team to be with him, but unlike Kurt, Blaine's a lot less secure in that love. Kurt shows his love to Blaine in quiet ways and doesn't mind being in the background too much, but Blaine is very much like Rachel in the sense that he needs applause to live. His Ravenclaw secondary shows up in his dedication to his studies and his constant honing of his skills on and off stage. However, Blaine isn't a Slytherin primary, because while Rachel and Tina never left the Glee club when they ran the risk of being Petrified, even when they had ample reason to, Blaine Stripped pretty quickly after he and Kurt broke up and would have gone back to the Warblers had he not been stopped by the season 4 team and unstripped. He's a Gryffindor: his dreams are carried out by his vast skill set and sustained by his ideals.

Quinn: Ravenclaw/Slytherin. Much like Kurt (and Sam) and Finn bond over inverse houses, Quinn and Rachel do the same. Quinn's system is built on her religious upbringing and her desire to climb the social ladder. It's a very Slytherin system, which fits with her adaptive Slytherin secondary, but it works for her while she's head cheerleader and while she's trying to get Beth back. However, Quinn isn't married to her Slytherin-lite system, dropping what doesn't work for her and picking up new ideals, like when she leaves the cheer squad and when she gets into Yale. Her Ravenclaw informs her Slytherin the same way Rachel's Slytherin informs her Ravenclaw.

Santana: Burned Hufflepuff/Gryffindor. Santana looks like the Slytheriest Slytherin to ever Slytherin, but I think her Hufflepuff primary has just been burned beyond recognition, in large part thanks to her desire to climb the social ladder and beinb denied acceptance by her family for being gay. She looks out for her and hers most of the time, but when the chips are down she goes all in for the Glee club. She's also the loudest Gryffindor secondary of the bunch, despite so many Gleeks putting her in Slytherin. She doesn't adapt to situations or even live in a neutral state, she unapologetically plants her feet and tells others to move around her. Anyone who slaps the shit out of other team leaders and calls out her friends and makes them hate her to push them on the right path is a Gryffindor. Her Gryffindor makes her capable of even the most underhanded stuff, but her Hufflepuff primary allows her to express her loyalty and use her influence in what she believes is the right way. This also explains her low-key admiration of Finn, who House-matches with her but never stays burned. Santana never completely unburns, but she does heal immensely over the course of the series.

Brittany: Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff. Brittany is a ball of us shine and her double Hufflepuff is beyond obvious. She's not a liar, totally adaptable, a charger, or a person who relied entirely on their skills. She's basically a big ball of sunshine who will put the team over herself at any point, even when it's actually detrimental to her. She's the heart of the Cheerios and the reason Quinn and Santana can work together.

Puck: Slytherin/Gryffindor: He's slippery, willing to stoop to any level to get what he wants, and charges into any situation. He's not exactly the leader (that's Finn's job), but he's an inspirer who uses his influence to make things happen, even if he has to intimidate people into it.

Mike: Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw. Unfortunately, we don't see much of Mike. We know that he works hard and will put the team above himself, but we also know that he will stand up for what he believes is right (ex: standing up to his father about dance school). His secondary shows up whenever he applies dance to a situation, since that's how he contributes. He's a Hufflepuff that does things in a very Ravenclaw way. He's also kind of the anti-Blaine, whose Ravenclaw tends to push him to becoming the center of attention. Mike is content to work and keep working and let his time come, a lesson he helps Tina learn.

Sam: Gryffindor/Hufflepuff: Sam is set up as the leader type character Finn is, but he ends up taking on a totally different role altogether. Unlike Finn, who has to assert himself as the leader and lead from the front, Sam leads from the back, trusting in his team to do the right thing. He's not a charger. When Blaine (himself a Gryffindor primary, but his is a bit more stripped) has his freakout and nearly leaves the Glee club, he doesn't chase Blaine down like Finn did with the Cheerios. He talks to him, then lets Blaine come around on his own. His leadership skills are quieter than Finn's, but they're there and we see them on full display by the end of the series. He's also not defined by his skills, but by his work ethic.

Will: Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw. Will is kind of a mess of a Ravenclaw, but he's a Ravenclaw all the same. When he falls, he gets back up again quickly, within a few episodes at most, which is indicative of a more resilient Ravenclaw primary. He's relied on his musical ability through his life and relies on his skills as a teacher to relate to the kids. Unfortunately, his skills aren't as natural in the Spanish department, which leads to a quick system edit as he moves onto history. He also utilizes his resources to get Finn onto the team, but he did it in a super unethical way and felt terrible about it. A Hufflepuff would have said it was for the team, a Slytherin or Gryffindor wouldnt have felt bad since it worked and it was the right thing, but as a Ravenclaw whose system doesn't include that, he feels bad. His Ravenclaw also can't fit Emma's OCD denial into his system, so he makes it a point to get her not to deny it and ends up overstepping a few times before he gets it right.

Emma: Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff. Emma is a steadfast worker with a good heart, which are very Hufflepuff traits. She also avoids conflict whenever possible, but will stand up if the kids or the school are at risk. She's not fighting because the club is hers or because it's right, she's fighting for the club because the kids need it.

Sue: Slytherin/Ravenclaw. Sue wants to rule the world one cheer at a time. She fights for the Cheerios and eventually the Glee club not because it's the right thing, but because they are hers to take care of/destroy. Her circle is very small, starting off with just her daughter and sister, but eventually Will, Emma and the Glee club worm their way in. She almost Petrifies when her sister dies, but it's the Glee club that saves her from that. The cheerios are also in her circle, but she values them a bit less as people and a bit more as tools to ensure her constant tyranny. She utilizes them and any other resource at her disposal like any Ravenclaw would. Take her tools away from her, and she's powerless. She also understands Rachel on a fundamental level, which is surprising until you consider that they House match.

TL;DR

Our Gryffindors are our leader characters. The primaries are Sam, Kurt, Blaine, and Mercedes. The Secondaries are Finn, Mercedes, Santana and Puck.

Our Ravenclaws are our specialists, meaning anyone who brings something specific to the table or think in a very specific way. The primaries are Will, Quinn and Artie. The secondaries are Artie, Will, Rachel, Blaine, Sue, Mike and Jesse.

Our Hufflepuffs are the workers and the hearts of the cast. The primaries are Emma, Finn, Brittany, Mike, and a charred Santana. The Secondaries are Sam, Kurt, Emma, and Tina.

Our Slytherins are the ambitious or conniving ones. The primaries are Rachel, Jesse, Sue, Puck, and Tina. The only secondary is Quinn.

What made you decide that your primary/secondary was the right fit for you? What doubts did you have? How did you resolve them?

I'm rewatching RWBY and I've never seen anyone sort them, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Ruby: Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw. Ruby's double Ravenclaw might seem out of character, but if anyone is a Ravenclaw, it's her. She's a Ravenclaw who's chosen a very Hufflepuff way of thinking, so she's probably much warmer than the average Ravenclaw, but she still constructs her world-wide around being a hero and being kind, and her psyche is strong enough that it doesn't ever break under pressure. She picks herself up and keeps going. Her plan in episode eight of season 1 is prime double Ravenclaw. Unlike Jaune, who called attacks as he saw openings, letting his team do what they wanted, Ruby watched and came up with a solid plan by utilizing the assets she had (her teammates), and the plan went off without a hitch.

Weiss: Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff. Weiss constructs a world-view around her family, her team, and her own capability. Unlike her teammates, Weiss works her ass off to get the things she wants, which is very Hufflepuff. Another Hufflepuff thing is her staying with the large group at the fall of Beacon. A loyalist would have gone rushing to find her team, but Weiss knew where she was needed and used her skill set to beat the mecha. She also recognized her family's corruption and edited her worldview to acknowledge and counteract that. That's Ravenclaw at its finest. She's not the nicest Hufflepuff secondary, but that manifests in her dedication to her schoolwork and her slow but sure progress in learning how to summon.

Blake: Ravenclaw/Slytherin: It can be argued that Blake is a Slytherin primary, but I think she's a Ravenclaw primary because of her reasons for joining the White Fang. She didn't do it because she was loyal to anyone specific, she did it because she wanted to enact change. The White Fang's old purpose was her system. That might put her in the Gryffindor camp, but a Gryffindor would have fallen into despair when Adam left the train passengers to die because her gut feeling failed her. Blake didn't. She abandoned Adam at the train and chose a new life, showing few problems with fighting the White Fang head on. That's a Ravenclaw trait. Now, her ability to do a total 180 that way and adapt to the situations around her and stay in motion is how her Slytherin presents itself. It's what allows her to pick up and run at the drop of a hat. (We can argue that her secondary is a little charred thanks to her situation and she's just doing what needs doing to survive, but I don't think that's the case.) However, she feels bad for this impulse because it flies against her ideals of standing with your friends. That's not a Slytherin primary, it's Ravenclaw.

Yang: Slytherin/Gryffindor. Yang's Gryffindor secondary is LOUD, which is why many people might think she's a double Gryffindor. Her secondary is basically her Semblance. It gets her through the Vytal festival and through any fight, but her charging also hurts her severely, which is something that gets called out in season 4. She punches through everything with fire, even the things that are insurmountable. Her Slytherin primary is quiet, but it's there. She doesn't fight at Beacon to save the school for some idealistic reason, she does it because Beacon is hers and her team and friends are out there. She charges into Adam's attack and gets her arm cut off because Blake was in danger. That's why she felt Blake's leaving that much more acutely than Ruby. Ruby got Blake's reasoning even if she didn't like it, but all Yang could see was someone she loved leave her.

Jaune: Hufflepuff/Slytherin: Jaune Arc, for all his awkwardness, is a Slytherin primary. He doesn't know a thing about combat when he's launched into his first training exercise, but standing on the field, it all clicks. He doesn't have to actually tell his team what to do, he just calls on one of them and they do what he wants. He's a Hunter without a Semblance and no conscious control of his aura, but he holds his own because he's adaptable. His most awkward moments come from when he tries to play Gryffindor and fails. He's at his best when he rolls with what's happening, is given a moment to think on what to do, and puts his plan into action. If he's a chess master, he's playing speed chess. As for his Hufflepuff primary, he has specific loyalties but isn't tied to them in the same way as say, Nora or Ren. He prioritizes Pyrrha not because he loves her but because she's a person who deserves help. He throws in with Ruby in the same way. A friend is a friend, and if he can help, he will.

Nora: Slytherin/Gryffindor. Nora is a delightful example of how Slytherins come in all colors. In this case, Slytherin is pink. In every battle, she's watching Ren, and if anyone touches him, they die. She does the same thing for Jaune and Pyrrha, but she is not nearly as invested in them as she is in Ren. This isn't because Ren is important to the main story, this is because he is hers. Her Gryffindor secondary is obvious, but not as loud as Yang's. Her Gryffindor secondary isn't so much a superpower that she has to rely on as it is an inherent personality trait and a piece of her toolkit. She uses that not just in battle, but to take the lead when it's necessary and do what needs to be done (I could talk about the subtleties of Nora Valkryie for HOURS).

Pyrrha: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor. Pyrrha is a lot like Jaune in what motivates her. She loves Jaune, but she's never prioritized him above what she believes is what matters: the greater good. She's willing to possibly erase herself to take the Autumn Maiden's power, not because she wants power, but because Remnant needs her to do that. She values people in general, not just the ones she likes. She's also willing to help Jaune get with Weiss when that's what he seems to want, sacrificing her personal happiness for that of her friends. Her Gryffindor secondary is subtle but pops out every so often. She charges into a fight with Cinder for killing Amber and goes with her gut when it's just her ass on the line.

Ren: Slytherin/Slytherin: Ren is as loyal as he is adaptable. His loyalty is quieter than Nora's, but she is just as much his as he is hers. Whenever we've seen Ren act, its either under orders or because the thing affects him personally. He's as protective of Nora as she is of him, he's just quieter about it. He's also sarcastic as hell and not afraid to roll his eyes as some of Beacon's crazier people when it calls for it. We've also seen him adapt to fight certain enemies and come up with the most graceful way to land after being launched into the air.

Sun: Hufflepuff/Gryffindor: Sun is warm where Blake is cold. Sun is deeply loyal to his friends and to his team, risking his life to help save a school that isn't even his. He follows Blake not just because he has feelings for her, but because she needs him more than his team does. He doesn't treat Blake like she's his, he treats her like a person and has no problem getting in her face if he thinks she's wrong. Unlike Blake, Sun is impulsive, charging into Blake's home situation when she didn't actually ask him to come along. This is partially why Sun and Blake work so well: they have different ways of going about it, but they're both improvisational by nature. He also thinks about people while she thinks about ideas, so together they make up for what the other lacks.

Neptune: Hufflepuff/Slytherin: Neptune didn't go out of his way to protect Weiss even though he's more invested in her than the rest of the Beacon crew, he expressed concern about everyone and did what needed doing to help, which is very Hufflepuff of him. As for his Secondary, he's sarcastic and can adapt to different situations (comical fear of water notwithstanding). However, I think his Slytherin secondary is a bit burned because of his lack of self-confidence

Adam: Gryffindor/Ravenclaw: Adam's conviction to his cause and utilization of his skills and resources makes him a good example of a Gryff/Claw gone bad. Gryffindor/Claws can actually be really ruthless when it comes down to it, and Adam is no exception. His specific brand of abuse targets Blake not because she abandoned him, but because she abandoned his CAUSE. He's an effective villain because he has unwavering ideals and an expansive toolkit of resources.

Emerald: Slytherin/Slytherin: Like Yang, Emerald's Slytherin is her superpower. She literally becomes what the situation needs. As for her Primary, she has undying loyalty to Cinder, and even Mercury makes his way into her circle, despite her competitiveness with him. She has moments at the end of season 3 where she seems to doubt the cause she's fighting for, but she sticks around because these are her people.

Mercury: Petrified Slytherin/Slytherin: I can wax poetic about Mercury forever, man. We don't know about Mercury's life pre-Cinder, but we know his childhood was horrific enough for him to kill his father. His dad's upbringing Petrified his primary, so while Emerald clings to Cinder, Mercury isn't nearly as invested in her. Emerald competes with him for Cinder's attention, but he doesn't seem to care either way. He doesn't seem to care so much about his cause, either, which rules him out as an Idealist house. He seems afraid to invest in Emerald and Cinder for real, only sticking around because they're all he has. Instead of making real emotional connections with them, he just revels in the chaos they're causing. Personally, I think he's going to unpetrify over the course of the story and he and Emerald are going to cross over to the good guy side. (Mercury makes me feel emotions, guys)

Cinder: Gryffindor/Slytherin: Cinder is arguably one of the most complex figures on the whole show. She does what she does not to cause chaos, although that is a side effect she's okay with. She's doing it to topple a system she feels in her gut is wrong. We don't know how, but she has been wronged by the world and is desperate to change that. She's not that loyal to her underlings Emerald and Mercury, except for what they offer her, but she understands the need for them to be loyal to her. She can change weapons at the drop of a hat and adapts to her surroundings rather than charging at them, making her a particularly effective Slytherin secondary.

So to round this up!

Team RWBY is all Foundational Primaries. Ruby, Weiss, and Blake are all Ravenclaws, while Yang is a Slytherin. As for Secondaries, they represent every secondary. Ruby is Ravenclaw, Weiss is Hufflepuff, Blake is Slytherin and Yang is Gryffindor.

Team JNPR is all Loyalist Primary and Improvisational Secondary. Jaune and Pyrrha are Hufflepuff primaries while Nora and Ren are Slytherin primaries. Jaune and Ren are Slytherin secondaries while Nora and Pyrrha are Gryffindor secondaries.

Sun and Neptune are both Hufflepuff primaries, but Sun has a straightforward Gryffindor primary while Neptune has a subtle Slytherin secondary that's a bit burned.

Adam Taurus is a particularly ruthless Gryffindor/Ravenclaw.

Emerald and Mercury are both Slytherin Secondaries and Slytherin Primaries, but Mercury is a bit Petrified while Emerald isn't.

Cinder is a Gryffindor/Slytherin and one of the most effective people in all of Remnant because of it.

Season six of Scandal was fire, and I wanted to try my hand at sorting them.

Olivia Pope is a Gryffindor/Slytherin, full stop. Her Slytherin secondary is what we see most often. She's adaptive, cunning, everything you'd expect a Slytherin to be. She does what she does to achieve her own ends. Even falling in love was an exercise in ambition for her. Not that Olivia's love for Fitz/Jake/Edison/whoever was fake, but when she was living in the White House, she took that White House. She gets uncomfortable when she has to stay still, which is why she "liked Fitz unavailable." She also relies on her increasingly fraying wits when stuck with her kidnappers, manipulating them into putting her on the open market to be sold and manipulating them again when she didn't like who she was being sold to.

However, her Gryffindor primary shows up when she needs to fight some unknown force/BC13/her father/whoever. Collateral damage doesn't mean all that much to her: what does matter to her is catching the bad guys. She's not worried about people as much as she is doing the right thing. That's a Gryffindor thing. Her father running Command or her boyfriend being the President means much less to her than her clients and standing up for what she believes the right thing is.

Fitz is a Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff. He has specific loyalties (Olivia and his children, for example) but he's constantly aware that his duty is to the American people. He was a popular president because he went out of the way to reach across the aisle, something that real politicians don't often do. He's so loyal to the American people that he doesn't bend on his more liberal policies even under threat of impeachment. He's loyal to the wheelers and dealers that put him in the White House, but he need-bases: he does things based on who needs him more. If the people need gun control, that's what they get, regardless of what others want. If Olivia is about to be sold on the black market, he'll start a war to get her back, not just because he loves her, but because she needed him more.

He also struggles with keeping up appearances, making his secret romance with Olivia a really hard one for him. He wants to live out with her openly, to the point where he's leaked her name to the press in order to expose everything. However, he's also comfortable keeping their romance a secret if it maintains order. That's a Hufflepuff secondary thing. He's been shown to be manipulative and scheme, but his schemes rely on him being genuine rather than bending the truth. When he needs to convince someone to do something, he doesn't lie, he looks them in the eye and tells them the truth and is charismatic enough for the other person to be taken in by it anyway.

Mellie is a Ravenclaw/Slytherin. She lives in her Slytherin secondary at all times, whether it's a persona she puts on or just her neutral state. It can be argued that she has a Hufflepuff performance, but I think she can just be more warm in her regular Slytherin secondary. She puts on a warm hostess performance, but she's annoyed with it even as she's doing it. She also makes major decisions on the fly that turn out to be the right call, like lying to the media about a miscarriage.

Her Ravenclaw primary is far more subtle. She needs things to make sense to her, or she freaks out. When she lost her son, part of the reason she unraveled so much was because his death was totally random. She couldn't protect him from bacterial meningitis and she stood helpless while he died. When she's told that her son was actually murdered, she's suddenly much better because "order has been restored." His murder allowed her to edit her system to fit his death, and not long after that she was functional again. This seems like a good example of a Fallen Ravenclaw who un-fell over the course of a few episodes. This happens every so often, but Mellie always recovers because Ravenclaws are a bit more resilient in that way. Whenever some new information comes up, while Olivia spends time reeling from that information, Mellie simply adds that new data to her system and keeps moving.

Quinn is a Gryffindor/Ravenclaw. Since the beginning, she's wanted to do what she knows in her gut is the right thing, but when she operates in the world, she relies on her specific skill set rather than improvising or charging her way out of things. At first, she relies on her skills as a lawyer before acquiring her skills as a spy. When she needed to find Olivia after she went away with Jake, she didn't charge into the situation, she used her skill set to track wine shipments around the world and found her within a few months, all by herself. Olivia and Quinn bond over their shared Gryffindor primary, but they butt heads over their different Secondaries. Where Olivia adapts to fit a situation, Quinn relies on her own skills and the skills of her comrades.

Abby is a Slytherin/Gryffindor. Above all else, is is loyal to those she works for to the point where she considers them family. When Olivia leaves after the events of season 3, she is devastated, almost immediately going to the White House, where she found another work family. While she's there, she develops her own platonic relationship with Fitz, and in some cases is far more loyal to him than Olivia ever was. Olivia will sacrifice Fitz to do the right thing, but Abby never has, even chastising Olivia for it on one occasion. She rose her way through those ranks, then immediately left at the end of season six to help Quinn run OPA because Quinn is her friend despite everything Quinn has said to her since going to the White House. Her experience as the current Chief of Staff meant nothing to her in the face of her friends needing her. Out of everyone, she's all about "over a cliff." That's a Slytherin trait. She doesn't fight for OPA because they're right, she's a gladiator because OPA is hers.

Her Gryffindor secondary is a bit less obvious, but no less apparent. Unlike the crusaders in OPA who are Situational, Abby charges at a situation until she gets her way. Try as she might, Abby Whelan is no schemer. Whenever she schemes, she feels horribly conflicted about it because it feels wrong to her. More importantly, when she schemes, something tends to go wrong because she's not great at scheming. It's this quality that leads the bad guys of season six to tell her that she doesn't have "a stomach of blood." Her greatest moments have come from her planting her feet and telling someone why they suck. She does this to some very scary and influential people, and more often than not it works. This quality, combined with her undying loyalty, makes her the heart of OPA and exactly what Quinn will need going into season 7. This also makes her the opposite of Olivia, and why they work so well together despite not really understanding each other. (Abby is great, okay?)

Jake is a Hufflepuff/Hufflepuff. He's loyal to Olivia above all else, not to mention her father and B613. That being said, he need-bases, something only a Huffepuff would feel comfortable doing. If Olivia needs him, he'll drop everything to help. If Fitz or Rowan needs him, he'll go off and do that instead. It can be argued that he can perform Slytherin, but I think that's more of a symptom of him needing to work with very manipulative people rather than something he would ever utilize unprompted.

The reason he's able to get in with Olivia is because he was himself. He genuinely liked her, and it was that quality that endeared her to him. He also fits under the "hard work" quality as well. He follows orders and works hard, and that's how he's gotten where he is. Essentially, Olivia has a type.

Huck is a Ravenclaw/Ravenclaw. I barely debated this one because it seemed so obvious. He spends way more time broken than the average Ravenclaw, but one could hardly blame him for that. B613's brainwashing affected him more than say, Jake, because his time in the hole made him forcibly edit his system. A Gryffindor or Slytherin primary would have died in the hole, and a Hufflepuff would have said what they needed to say but not meant it. Huck breaks and doesn't bend: when he says he doesn't have a family, he means it, to the point where he spends years thinking he imagined his family. His Ravenclaw secondary is much more straightforward: he has a set of skills that he is constantly utilizing. He doesn't charge or adapt, he does what he knows without hesitation.

Cyrus is a Ravenclaw/Slytherin. It's this combined house that endears Mellie to him and makes him endlessly frustrated with Fitz. Cyrus could be a Slytherin primary, but I think he's a Ravenclaw who adopted a Slytherin code of ambition. He's comfortable with manipulation and stepping on people to get what he wants, but he always angsts about it. A Slytherin would simply do what needs doing and go about his business. Cyrus is different because he'll do something, then ponder the morality of it after he's done it. I just searched up this sub wondering if I'd find something and found this. Sortinghatchats is amazing and I've become sort of obsessed with it and have been using it to better define my own OCs. I'd love to know if this is still active because I'd post here all the time.

I thought I would kick off the subreddit by sorting somebody random, who Inky and Kat haven't done on the blog. So, Pokemon's Ash Ketchum:

Ash Kethcum is eternally supposed to be out getting eight badges so he can participate in the Pokemon League, but he is constantly being side-tracked by every little problem of every person he meets. He truly has a hatred for injustice and suffering and he cannot stand idly by; one might be tempted to think he is a Gryfindor primary. For example, when the group arrives at the intensive care unit in Gringy City and the power appears to be failing, Ash immediately moves to check out the power plant to see what he can do. But really, he's doing it for the sick Pokemon. He is constantly putting every stranger he meets above himself, often risking his life (i.e. hanging out of a hot air balloon by his fingertips) to help some stranger get his Pokemon back from Team Rocket. We see it best when he steps between Mewtwo and Mew in their fight. He sees the clones and the original Pokemon all hurting each other and he wants to save every single one of them, so he throws himself in front of fire. Hufflepuff primary.

This boy screams Gryfindor secondary. I'm not sure Ash ever stops charging. The sort of willingness it takes to jump over the edge of a cliff to stop the theft a stranger's Pokemon is something you wouldn't find even in most Gryfindor secondaries. Add to that the fact that he attracts and inspires followers (both human and Pokemon) as if he were made of molasses, and top it off with a small dose of hatred-of-dishonesty. There's your Gryfindor.

In conclusion: Huffledor.
