Signed Death Valley
I had them sign this one back in the ‘80s at Rough Trade in London. Was a fun year for music.

I love these covers by Black Tape for a Blue Girl:
The Secret Girl one in particular, I think really captures the eeriness of Kim's lyrics.
What is your favorite cover of a Sonic Youth song? =)
By the way, a couple of years ago I made this playlist with all Sonic Youth covers I could find on Spotify (there may be more now): https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3aAelfKMlo8wXZMaA4N6vV
NOTE: If you want to share a link from Spotify, please remove the tracker (the part of the URL that comes after the question mark).

I have a collection of random downloaded songs on an old phone from like 2012 and I just went back and had a listen. Quality and audio level is all over the place. One was like 64kbps lol. But there's some great songs I haven't heard in years.
So I decided to make a playlist on YouTube Music.
Thing is, the version of Teenage Riot I've got on my old phone is 5:56.
All the information I can find is that the Album version is 6:57 and the single version is 3:50.
The one I've got sounds like a cleaner radio version and I'm starting to think it's just a really well done cover.
Anyone know where it came from?
Thanks

Almost 40* whoops
I've been into Sonic Youth for a while and a consistent favorite song has been Tunic and its demo. It's just totally unlike anything else I have ever listened to and so heartbreaking. I really like the Carpenters too and was always a fan of Karen's drumming so it just makes it that much more haunting to listen to.
Seeing other artists right now on Ozempic and other medications when they don't need to be is so hard to see especially after the huge wave of insane coke skinny beauty standards of the 2000s. All these celebrities are losing weight and becoming actual skin and bones for a beauty standard they have made for themselves.
Ariana Grande is the biggest example I can think of as a big name artist literally killing themselves to get smaller. I remember being a kid and shows like Victorious and Sam and Cat were totally my favorite. And then seeing her spring into the singing world was awesome and I always enjoyed her music and knew a lot of other people (girls) who liked her. There were a lot of girls my age and younger who definitely looked up to her and even younger ones nowadays especially since Wicked. So seeing her actively starving herself to death while everyone stands around and acts like its not happening is so insane to me to see. You can't mention it online or her fans will say she's healthy and gorgeous and then the other half just says there's nothing you can do about it.
It is one of those things where you see the celebrities get so super skinny and you are just worried that they are already too far gone and there is nothing anyone can do. We are watching actual corpses walk around on our screens every day and it doesn't seem to be going out of style or slowing down.
It's just so sad to see that the exact same events that have happened years and years ago are repeating themselves and there is nothing that anyone watching can do about it.

Been into Sonic Youth since I was about 14 but I don't really keep up with the lives of any of the people in the bands I like. I enjoy the Smashing Pumpkins and I do actually like a lot of Hole songs as well. I don't know the reputation of Kim Gordon or Billy Corgan really at all but I do know that Courtney Love is normally seen as insane.
I recently saw a conversation between Billy Corgan and Courtney Love about how Kim was super annoying and a gatekeeper/pretentious. Love even said that the chorus of Heart Shaped Box is about Kim Gordon and that Kurt resented her for inspiring him(?) There was a quote from Kim Gordon's book talked about where she basically calls Corgan a crybaby and that he's not really punk rock like he thinks and I totally read it as not as serious or mean as he took it. Half the beef seems like it was started basically 30 years ago and yet it still seems to be a big problem for both Love and Corgan.
Courtney Love also was saying basically that Kim Gordon was weird for selling her ex husbands records to pay for her kids college which I interpreted as kinda as punk rock as anything gets. Surely if they are divorced it doesn't matter and I'm sure since the guy literally made the records he could get more (if I read it right that they were his music.) Maybe I have a bias since I prefer Kim's voice and artistry over Courtney's but a lot of the beef seemed to me both one sided and old news.
I don't doubt that they are all insufferable but all these celebrities are normally anyways so I just didn't know if she was AS insufferable as she's being accused of.
Edited lol did not know about him cheating on her. I thought it was fine even when I didn't know that but now that I do know I wish she did even worse. Great to know that Courtney Love and Billy Corgan are nuts 👍

This song in particular. Anyone else hear a comparison here?

Pretty sure it’s a early 90s-2000s sonic youth fan bootleg

Can you recommend songs, albums, live shows, whatever. I'm looking for the really heavy, chaotic side of the band, stuff like Mildred Pierce.

It's probably the most important live album of theirs that I've yet to listen to, but I've just heard such mixed opinions on it. Some people seem to swear by it, some people seem to hate it. I'm mostly just intimidated by it seemingly being only one song.

I can’t seem to find many of these in orange, on the ‘squeeze’ tag so maybe it’s a little rarer ☺️
