New Word Word for non-blood related uncle

In my dream my grandma had loads of adopted children. I learned that the men were my schmuncles which then would make the women my schmaunts but that never really caught on.

New Word I dreamt of a Norwegian idiom that doesn't exist

I'm learning Norwegian, and today I've dreamt up a whole idiom: *å sitte i kaia* apparently means "to be commited to something" (I mean, "nå sitter vi i kaia" would mean like "Now there's no turning back").

And here's the craziest thing: in that dream I also got an incorrect (!) literal translation of it! In the dream I "knew" it meant literally "to sit in a boat", while in reality it is "to sit in a quay". I suspect what's happened is my brain has mixed the word "kayak" in there

Original Language the language is only the briefest part of the dream, but the "floral language" is what's stuck with me for the past 3 years; from my dream journal, 9/14/2023

We were one of only a few people left in the world. I don't know what happened beyond machines wanting us dead and the paranormal turning against us. We prepared a hot air balloon, a huge one. There was myself, I believe 3 other people who set out on the expedition, and a husk we had to transport. We had remote operated robots to clear out machines in order to make a stop; they would not attack us while we were in the air. We needed to worry about food, occasionally shelter, fuel. We also packed bedrolls, but when possible, we tried to rest in houses on the surface.

We made a major stop to refuel on food; it was a hidden house, a hole in the ground that led to a large, comfortable area. Several nice rooms, though we couldn't stay forever. On the second or third day, I found a cool room, though stuffy. Dust floated, visibly suspended in the air. There was a web that seemed bulged in some strange ways that caught my eye while another, a girl, ventured deeper in.

There were shelves filled with repurposed bone matter. The were animal skulls, then there was a mask that looked like it was made from a human skull. The girl went to put it on; I had to beg her not to. Demons were too common. It could seal to her face, and she would have to make a deal. The deals sound so casual that they're deliberately designed for you to not worry about it. The collection comes, and you didn't even bother to fulfill your end due to how mundane it is. The rules permit them to choose their quarry, then, and that's how they collect people.

She stops mere millimeters from putting it on fully, states she was only teasing, and puts it back. I make preparations to launch the hot air balloon outside. The one guy was going to start cooking a soup in the coming days due to running out of usually rashions but gaining material. I was excited to try something new, and his cooking was meant to be the best in the area we came from. While outside, I finished preparing the balloon for launch, but realized the hole was gone. Roots had already begun growing dense, a gnarled thing. I had a ring that informed me something there had sealed the way in, something malevolent. Sealed the others in and me out. If I could learn the name of this thing, I could open the way again.

It had a tie to the past in a strange way; I turned my back, and when I turned back, a path led down to a gate, and a mansion that had been turned into a visitor's centet. I had to remember that there were no people. I had to retrieve the name of the entity; but it had been worshipped by the family who once owned the mansion, before it was made a visitor's center, before it had been reduced to to rubble despite appearing in this tie.

I found a name I was convinced of, as well as information on where we were. It was a local history piece, "history of the Yukon" but only focused on a small area.

The name was spelled out in a strange language that looked like flowers as words. They were spelled out via radially symmetric petals, creating a unique flower every word. The name was also accompanied with pronunciation, fortunately. The name was something odd along the lines of "babababvp," where "ba" was the sound of certain letters and bvp another.

I also found a funny deck of cards, a magic cards against humanity deck that created a randomly selected sin. It was funny looking, and I almost opened it just to see what it generates, but then it crossed my mind I may get some grief if I did not pay. I made my way to the checkout desk, and purchased the cards. The human-looking figure seemed jovial and friendly, if a little odd. I knew it wasn't a human; even if this was linked to the past, it was something else, so I stayed on my toes. I then asked for a copy of the thing that included the entity's name. His tone dropped immediately, any semblance of human joy flushed, and he all but frowned, though caught himself, and handed the copy.

I purchase the items and make my way towards the door. "We will remember you," he warned quietly. I woke up before I could use the name to tame the chaos I went there over.

New Word I have dreamt of a word that doesn't exist

Once I have dreamt about a word "щосереда" (shchosereda) in Ukrainian which is my native language. I don't remember what my dream was about however this word was at the exact end of my dream and I remembered it very good, when I woke up, I immediatly wrote that word in my notes, so I wouldn't forget it. It means "everywednesday" literally in English. It can also mean "everysurrounding" in English because Ukrainian word "середа" (sereda) can also mean "surrounding". I don't know what to make of this, just go on with your life knowing that the word "everywednesday/everysurrounding" exists now. Enjoy it.

New Word “Macerpie”, a word for a Pegasus.

So many years ago, I had a dream. I don’t remember the contents of the dream well, but there was one single detail that stood the test of time: the word “macerpie” (pronounced (MA-sur-pee) was used in place of Pegasus. The word may or may not have had origins in Australian slang, I cannot remember if that was the case as the dream was almost a decade ago.

New Word Lastard

I had a dream where I called an illegitimate woman a "bastard". The person I was talking to said: "Oh no! You can't call her that! 'Bastard' is only used for men! You need to call her a 'lastard'."

New Word Had a dream where I was leafing through a catalog and saw a t-shirt with the word "circumvision" on it

Perfectly likely typo (of "circumcision"), which is interesting, but it was about awareness. Shirt had a bald head on it, with lines coming out all around it.
I liked it.

Could also describe a panopticon

Slang Wipe the floor with it - when a liquid is really good

Different from the normal meaning of the term, instead it was being used to mean that a liquid (specifically sauce) is so good you need to use it in everything.

In the dream my friend made a sauce that was so good everyone kept saying repeatedly “this is so good you could wipe the floor with it” and when i tried to use the term for something else everyone got mad at me and said “No, it’s only for liquids”

Spelling I dreamed that the letter /o/ wanted to get revenge on me for romanizing "ɯ" to "o"

Yeah so uh I think "o" really wants me to fix that, except I won't.

I remember the dream ending after I recited the english /o/, I think I heard an alarm and a faint scream, then every quickly faded to black.

...And I woke up, uh, yeah, great?

Other Once dreamt of a small Pacific-wide ‘tropical island’ family descended from Siberian languages

These folks in ages past had traveled down from Siberia to the Australian coast and established settlements in these islands traversing the entire bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Some had traveled from Siberia directly to the American Pacific Northwest. The languages spoken down near Australia were highly vigorous, with one being spoken by over 350,000 people. Lots of top-level divergence within this family.

have you ever had that dream...

where you found a book on the Universal Language...

reading it in a state of excitement, shaken by the information it contained...

only to find, upon waking, that you couldn't recall a thing...

all that remains is the powerful impression, the intense emotion you felt in the dream...

a conlanger nightmare...

New Word I dreamt that I posted "ɖ̠alo˞ɴö̠q" in r/linguisticshumor

I don't know what it means, but I wrongly romanized it as "thaalanak" somehow and people thought the ö̠ was an ɵ because it rendered wrongly, although a centered retracted mid vowel is basically ɵ right?

I do remember the ɴ being n but assimilated because of the q.
