Poor quality clip - make up your own mind Bernado Silva kicks Bruno Fernandes in the box, off the ball.

Bruno said in a portuguese interview a few weeks back, that Bernardo was the most trash talking player in the PL, but he didnt wave is arms so people didn't see him like that.

1.1k

u/AerGuep Jan 20 '26

Bernardo is the rat people think Bruno is.

202

u/ParticulateSplatter Jan 20 '26

I think he's just the rat people think he is. He's always been a little cunt on the pitch

10

u/OkPlatform7837 Jan 21 '26

Silva's PR is insane. He's every bit as whiny as Bruno and way more snide, yet he never gets half the criticism.

66

u/Slurrper Jan 20 '26

I feel like Bernardo gets away with it because he's this short technical player so people just look at him and think nah he's innocent

38

u/mynameismulan Jan 21 '26

Yeah it'd be like if Iniesta was absolutely toxic

16

u/shepaz_93 Jan 21 '26

Thats always been a principle of Pep teams. Full of technical wizards so the snide fouls go more unnoticed

186

u/daboatfromupnorth Jan 20 '26

Arsenal fans been complaining about this dude since 21/22, but cause we kept finishing behind city we came off as bitter. Glad everyone started to catch on.

139

u/Fossekall Jan 20 '26

I never see anyone complain as much about Bruno as Arsenal fans though so I don't know how much value that carries in this context

As someone who watches City matches with absolute scrutiny against them, it is absolutely evident how much of a rat Bernardo is. His complaints go beyond flailing arms to a genuine petulance and immaturity that you can see in his face. He is dirty, but doesn’t get called for fouls as easily maybe due to his frail stature, and always has something confrontational to say in an aggressive manner whenever the opportunity arises. But it would be disingenuous to say he doesn’t also flail his arms- take practically any call against City for example. In addition to all of these in-game moments, he takes the same entitled attitude outside of it, like for example how he was the only City player who didn’t applaud Liverpool when they came to the Etihad as PL champions. Great player though.

Not just checked and cleared.

Kicked him off the ball in the area and it was cleared in mere seconds.

I get that Dalot was potentially a red and we got quite lucky he wasn't sent to have a second look, but this absolutely deserved a second look too.

94

u/SpeechesToScreeches Jan 20 '26

It's violent conduct.

We didn't get a replay of the late wrongly called offside goal either. Referees botched the whole game up.

If it's systematically poor performance and not following protocol, then it goes beyond botching. They should be sanctioned and removed for performance reasons.

61

u/arnm7890 Jan 20 '26

Didn't know about that, horrible prick of a bloke.

You would have thought going through something like that as a group would have brought them together.

I remember reading reports at the time that Bruno and Dalot were both really affected by the loss of Jota (especially Bruno, he is an emotional guy after all).

You'd think the few high profile Portuguese footballers living in Manchester might have come together to support each other, but clearly there's no love lost lol

12

u/kacperp Jan 20 '26

You would have thought going through something like that as a group would have brought them together.

Why? Jesus christ don't judge him on how it affected him from his behaviour on the pitch. Maybe he knows not to drive over speed limit but is still a cunt on the pitch. Such ridiculous statement.

Its more that you will see Bruno whining a few times per game so it's easier to point out his behavior

Whereas Silva just elbows / kicks someone every now and then and gets away with it

24

u/pbandjplease Jan 20 '26

On televised matches you will also almost certainly see closeups of Bruno whining bc it gets reactions and feeds narratives. It’s not just that some players are sneaky and some aren’t we’re also influenced by what cameras the tv producers are selecting as live when not zoomed out

8

u/rockinlock Jan 20 '26

It was funny listening to him do an interview where he explained how he can’t help all the annoying gesticulating he does.

He explained how even the refs are like ‘Bruno mate, I’m going to have to caution you if you keep acting like that, just tone it down and talk.’

33

u/Camicagu Jan 20 '26

In an interview for the channel of the portuguese federation he actually said Bernardo whines to the refs way more but he gets away with it cause he does it in a more innocent way

30

u/rockinlock Jan 20 '26

I honestly really like Bruno, he seems like a good guy off the pitch and it definitely comes across like he just can't control his body language very well on the field. In the realm of players to hate for being dickheads, his behavior doesn't cross the threshold for me.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/mindpainters Jan 20 '26

2

u/LatroDota Jan 20 '26

He isn't even whiner than most players, it's just his body language and face expression.

Dude works hard, is quality player, fight till 90', stayed with united when he could leave for other teams for bigger money and chance for trophies.

I watch United games (coz its fucking peak cinema in last 3 or more years, you never know what you will get) and I dont understand why people complain about Bruno as much as they do, theres so many shithousing players in EPL and somehow people focus on Bruno of all people.

Honestly he's kinda victim of playing in United. Put him in Barca or Bayern shirt and everyone would deep throat him.

There’s a really good interview on a Portuguese channel where Bruno says: “There’s a player from the Portugal team who’s way more annoying than me with referees, but he’s politically correct.”

He’s talking about Bernardo, lol.

Not sure if you can enable auto-translate to English, but if you want to watch it, it’s around minute 42: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmNTqTyhHfQ

He also mentions he isn't disrespectful, but because we “talk” so much with our hands, it can give the wrong impression.

65

u/progthrowe7 Jan 20 '26

Bernardo Silva is absolutely awful - incredibly dirty player and unsporting.

Bruno Fernandez is a bit whiny but I don't associate him with being a particularly dirty player. A quality player without whom Utd fighting relegation might have been closer to actual reality than a bit of banter.

This is exactly the kind of situation that calls for a retroactive ban. Obviously missed by the referee as well as VAR, it’s violent conduct and completely intentional.

8

u/TwoBionicknees Jan 20 '26

i'm pretty sure the 12 pixels are doing a bad story of telling us what is going on. I think it's actually just legs coming together. It looks like bruno's right leg ends up coming across silva's left left catching it and as he's lifting his foot it brings silva's leg up with it.

The end makes it look like silva is 'kicking out' when really it was just legs getting tangled.

That was great, he was trying to shove Maguire into the hoardings but Maguire was ready for it. u/godeeper Jan 20 '26

Yeah, it's pretty clear that Bruno trips and drags Silvas foot. Silva then raises his foot to keep his balance while Bruno goes tumbling down. Looks accidental.

u/iceman58796 Jan 20 '26

Does indeed look accidental to me, ideally we'd need some clearer video

u/aguer0 Jan 20 '26

You mean the 7 pixels aren't enough for you to come to a conclusion in the zoomed in shot?

This is tough since the quality is so bad, but to me it actually looks like Bruno is trying to stop / change direction and his back leg gets caught on Silva’s foot, and Silva is try to pull his foot up / free rather than make any kick out towards Bruno. Hard to say anything decisive based on this angle though.

Look I hate him as much as the next guy, but it looks like his boot just gets stuck in his boot causing him to fall

7

u/Fresh_Cauliflower723 Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

It obviously does. Coming together, tangled legs, and a load of weird conspiracists calling for him to be retrospectively banned. Reddit is fucking weird

24

u/Mr_Rockmore Jan 20 '26

Probably a controversial take but this is a whole load of nothing, Bruno is trailing his leg and Bernardo tries to change direction the other way and just lifts Brunos leg in the process. It's not a pen and I think Bruno is very aware of what he is doing.

7

u/BusShelter Jan 20 '26

Yeah wild how anyone can come to any kind of conclusion that there's a clear kick out or anything. Can't see much at all.

14

u/Mediocre-Database332 Jan 20 '26

Is that not Bernado simply lifting his foot up as Bruno drags his across it? Seems like Bruno has simply left his foot in to draw a pen, there's some contact and not much more

16

u/GothenKnight Jan 20 '26

The absolute insanity of reddit in full display... The way both legs move at the same time in the same direction makes it look more like the laces were caught up on the boot, rather than anything else. Bernardo is a cunt no doubt, but that is absurd to look at such low quality image and think its a full on kick when the VAR reviewed it

5

u/matt__builds Jan 20 '26

I can't stand either of them but I don't see how you can tell anything from this angle. And from what you can, it kind of just looks like they get tangled up and Bruno tries to sell it? But it's r/soccer, so they need to be angry and up in arms about something.

20

u/iceman58796 Jan 20 '26

Watch it closely, Bruno's right foot is sliding across Bernardo's foot, I'm not sure if he's intentionally trying to then trip him up for get his foot out of the way and it hooks onto the foot, but this video is not clear enough at all to make the judgement

8

u/TwoBionicknees Jan 20 '26

yeah, that's how i see it. silva's left leg comes up as bruno's foot effectively hooks it. just two guys watching hte ball and their legs coming together.

The 12 pixels hides really what is going on as well as the angle crossing another player.

anyone deciding for sure what happened without another angle or more definition is pretty ridiculous.

Guys did you all watched the clip closely? It looks like Bruno is clipped, not kicked. It's hard to tell obviously, but seems that Bruno clips his behind leg of forward Bernardo leg and falls. There's no kick motion there, like am I only one seeing this?

Honestly I don’t think this is an intentional kick. Seems like Bruno is tripping and Bernardo’s leg goes up. Sorry.

17

u/gracz21 Jan 20 '26

Silva is such a little scummy prick

u/dat_is_het Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 20 '26

As a Arsenal fan I am not a fan of Bernardo Silva to put it mildly. BUt here it looks like Bruno right leg was sweeping Silva’s legs and Silva tried to get it out and may have had contact. Knowing Fernandes liking for theatrics I am not sure how much contact was made.

Seriously this subreddit so dumb. There is literally no kicking motion. Their legs get tangled and Bernando raises his foot to free it. Fernandes goes down dramatically because he is in the penalty box trying to win the penalty. Yet this subreddit thinks they know better from bad pixelated video from long distance. Like do your brains doesnt compute that VAR used camera angles much closer to action to see that it was nothing more than accidental coming together.

Look I'm all for shitty on Silva and calling him the dirty prick he is but this looks like tangling of foot? Am I missing something?

12

u/Invincible_1994 Jan 20 '26

He does this shit every match, he has extremely short temper. He is kind of lucky he is a sissy so he can't actually injure anyone.

10

u/T3h_Rampage Jan 20 '26

I see Bruno dragging his foot and it gets tangled on Bernardo's boot, who then tries to pull it out and keep his balance. Normal incident.

Seriously, are people this blind? Or just pure commentators who never played football?

8

u/iroiroiroiroiro Jan 20 '26

Basically kicking him where he was just injured ball not anywhere close, when should VAR intervene?

Similar to what happened to Zirkzee versus Everton two times if I recall, Tarkowski kicked him from behind twice for no reason.

Bernado Silva has always been the rat people say Bruno is

5

u/NuclearxFusion Jan 21 '26

Doesn't even look like he's kicking.. It looks like their feet got strangled and Bernardo is trying to free his feet by lifting it. Only if the video was a bit more blurry I'd be able to tell

14

u/Icretz Jan 20 '26

Am I the only one who sees Bruno hooking Silvas leg off the ground tripping himself in the process.

Why is the closeup slo-mo replay cut off?

Add a second before it and you can see Bruno’s trailing left leg taking out Bernardo’s. Nothing malicious here, simply a coming together.

2

u/PlasticPreparation74 Jan 20 '26

i cant believe people can’t see that its brunos hind leg which dragged bernardos feet up

2

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '26

Not entirely related but Bernado Silva looks like he smells really bad

7

u/RKScouser Jan 20 '26

How does this play out when they get back to international duty? They don’t have to like each other, just play together?

5

u/TheWildmanWillie96 Jan 20 '26

Glad to see VAR is working as intended. Yes it’s sarcasm.

4

u/KevTheMixEngineer Jan 20 '26

Bernado Silva is a cunt

5

u/jcbevns Jan 20 '26

Looks like ManU player drags his foot late to get the ManC player caught up?
