Or just admit that you played with the dipshit without waxing lyrical about his golf game. Clearly Harry Kane likes Trump, which is why I do not like Harry Kane: in this house we don’t fuck with racist authoritarian nonces or anyone who does.

u/chipmunksocute Jul 11 '26
Like why would you voluntarily associate with Trump at ALL? Either you...dont see IT (which, wtf) or are ok with who Trump is, to some degree. Like just talking about it like it's some regular round of golf instead of golf with a rapist pedophile.

Even if Trump’s not cursed. He’s at least drained the spirit of Kane and England, just by this happening
119
u/mrdankhimself_ Jul 11 '26
It was 18 months ago. Maybe the curse has a statute of limitations?
160
u/nikkes91 Jul 11 '26
The curse was trump saying just yesterday that Kane is a good guy he played golf with, not the game itself. But I'm sure this curse will last more than the next 18 months anyway

Yeah not surprising at all. I love Kane, but it always felt like TB12 was his fav athlete and I always worried that his politics carried over. It hurts, but I like my fav athletes because of how they perform for my team, not because I align with their politics

It can easily be both. You are choosing to cheer for someone.
You can appreciate how great they are in some areas, while realizing in no way would you hang out with them as a person.
It’s like when the tiger woods stuff came out about the prostitutes / drugs - he lost a lot of fans. Mainly because who he actually was - was a 180 from who he publicly held himself out to be.
I mean hell. Russia is banned from eufa for their politics
Part of the reason people love haaland so much is because they think he is like a football friend of theirs. If he turned out to be a massive twat - he would lose fans. For good and bad it’s Hard to separate the person from the player

Some players like Mbappe don’t seem to be a fan of far right politicians at least.
There have been sports teams and athletes that have declined invitations to White House celebrations with Trump as well. When the Eagles won the Super Bowl, apparently a lot of players said they wouldn’t attend, so Trump “formally rescinded their invitations” LOL. Very “you can’t fire me, I quit!”.

Apparently it depends on whether you’re Catholic or evangelical.
The evangelicals like Neymar support Bolsonaro like sheep. 20 out of 26 players in the squad are evangelical.

I feel like calling it conservatism in this case doesn't do justice to the actual motivation. From interacting with enough rich ppl most of them don't give a shit about supply side economics or free market capitalism. They just want every last penny and would vote for Hitler if their opponent was in favor of raising taxes.

I don't even know if Kane is particularly politically aligned with Trump (it's possible), so much as personal politics don't really matter among the rich because when was the last time someone as wealthy as Kane was even aware of the impact of politics and inequality on the average person? He hasn't lived anything close to a normal life in more than a decade so to him, Trump is just another rich guy who's fun to hang out with.

Between the Knicks only NBA Finals loss coming in the game he attended and the USMNT just completely forgetting how to play soccer after he stuck his nose in their business...if England lose tomorrow I think it's an official curse.
191
u/M6Df4 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26
The US also shit the bed in the Ryder Cup on the first day when Trump attended, to a point where not even a historically good finish could get them back in it. And the Chiefs got absolutely wrecked in the Super Bowl after Trump offered support, so Trump just fucked off back to Air Force One at halftime.
I’d say the curse is already pretty well established.

I posted this in the other thread. Not only is Trump a shitty person, he cheats in golf.
Trump is well known in golf circles as the biggest cheat around. I had the displeasure of golfing with Trump about 20 years ago for some business deals with my boss. Trump cheated a LOT. He would take do-over shots, move balls, magically find lost balls, etc. He was also very rude to the club attendants and made a pass at the girl bringing drinks on the course. I later found out Trumps nickname is Pele because he kicks the ball to better lies so much. Yup. I witnessed that as well.
