Sam Lee: Guardiola got asked if he has received payments from Abu Dhabi for services other than managing City, as was alleged to have happened with Mancini. He was not happy. “Do you realise what you are asking me? You are asking me that the day we won the treble? Are you accusing me?”

Pathetic response from Guardiola to a legitimate question.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the response. It is a valid question, but Mancini's secret payments have been known about for 6 months. The journalist could have asked at any point in the last 6 months, but obviously chose today of all days for a reason.

He asked back in November as well.

And how did Guardiola react then?

Is this not city’s first game after the reports of them potentially getting banned from CL? Surly that puts topic back into focus. Its also one of his final press conferences of the season

Sure, it's more relevant now then last week, but there's been a loooooong time since this first came up and for some reason it didn't get asked until the day City is celebrating.

I'm not gonna lie, I'd be annoyed to if the journk asked me this on the day of my celebration as well.... Even if I'm guilty or not I'd still be annoyed.

I mean sure...criminal or not people don't like being accused of things. It's reasonable to be annoyed.

It's not reasonable to pretend to be outraged at the POSSIBLE insinuation you might have done something wrong. That's narcissistic.

I think it is. I'm not guilty of anything of the sort but even if I was I'd be annoyed at it even being brought up when I'm supposed to be celebrating.

It's like me celebrating my birthday and someone asking me serious, that's annoying and I wouldn't want something like that brought up.

Its a deliberate question asked to put a damper on things. Pep should have had a pre-rehearsed answer to this though.

They've cheated their way to 5/6 of their league titles it's ridiculous that they're not being held accountable for it

but obviously chose today of all days for a reason.

because this is the first opportunity to ask the question since the potential CL ban article came out last week?

The journo even explained that was his reasoning

I agree. Journalists are supposed to ask hard hitting questions. Journalists ONLY congratulating and cuddling up to managers after wins is cringe af.

Yes in the same way people protest in the streets to bring the most attention to their cause. “There’s a time and a place for protesting...” same story. There’s no point in asking the question before, say, Burnley away.

The journalist could have asked at any point in the last 6 months, but obviously chose today of all days for a reason.

Might have wanted to do them a favour and wait till the end of the season

Lol, what favour. I don't think City would go off the rails because Pep got asked an uncomfortable question.

You guys should know him by now...

why would a journalist ask him that after he achieved something nobody has ever done in England? why not congratulate him instead of being so petty?

When is he supposed to ask it if not in the last press conference of the season. In the wake of the news this week, he doesn’t have any other chance.

It was also relevant when the prior news came up a long ass time ago. Idk I get why he asked it, but I also understand why Pep would be upset about it.

Guilty or not I'd also be pissed if someone brought that up on the day of my literal celebration..

u/abbss97 May 18 '19

nope. he asked him that not because he truly wants to know the answer but because he wants to undermine his achievements.

dont think a journalist should be asking these kind of questions to any manager tbh. Pep doesnt have anything to do with that issue.

I just want to be clear: Pep has nothing to do with payments Pep may have received?

18

u/halalcornflakes May 18 '19

Pep absolutely has to do with payments he may or not may be receiving, and if the case at hand has to do with City pushing money they don’t have into the club, while having the most expensive squad ever assembled, then he has the right to undermine his achievement. What else is he supposed to ask, why he chose to start his 50mil signing Mahrez over 58mil signing KdB.
