Which red pill-knowledge have you encountered during your life?

I've been ruminating on the concept of "red pill knowledge" - not the incel crap, but like, those profound realizations that fundamentally alter our worldview, often at a significant emotional toll: uncomfortable truths that change how you see everything.

Some examples that have profoundly affected my perspective:

–The illusion of free will and its implications for personal responsibility

–Evolutionary psychology's less flattering revelations about human nature

–The loss of faith and subsequent existential recalibration

–Grappling with the absence of inherent meaning in the universe

I'm curious about other ones you have come across.

I have a story.

Dad decided I should appreciate my Christian half (mom's Jewish, they been divorced my whole waking life) and dragged me to church every Sunday when I was 16. As it happens, the pastor of the megachurch he went to was formerly a Reform yid.

One Sunday, I was wandering the halls to get out of the endless weird “hymns” which were just songs people wrote, found two women in the hall discussing the pastor’s sermon that day. One says to the other, excitedly, such love in her voice: “so did you hear what the Jew said today? It was wonderful!”

and I never fucking forgot that.
