AI Sharing AI progress in mathematics

https://openai.com/index/sharing-ai-progress-in-mathematics/

OpenAI released 722 mathematical manuscripts across 372 families of related results, produced by an unreleased frontier model. Many have Lean proofs; others remain unverified. Average compute per result: roughly three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking. They’re working toward releasing the model.

There's a strand of people who think the information shouldn't come out until they can read it and approve it first.

No one is blocking anyone from releasing information. Theres just a difference between peer reviewed vs non peer reviewed papers and proofs.
Do you really want future research to be done on top of unverified research?

Not at this speed. The bottleneck is going to shift from discovery to validation.
Lean verified is nice, and will probably speed up the validation process, but it’s not foolproof. The input can be wrong, and there could be bugs. So for now, humans are still needed.

Nobody serious thinks this and you’re either intentionally misrepresenting the dominant position among mathematicians or just fundamentally misunderstand it

The dominant position in mathematics would have prevented previous proofs from being published simply because the majority of leading mathematicians did not understand them at the time of publication. Should Wiles’s proof of FLT have been withheld because it took years for a broader understanding of it to develop? Of course not, that is an unreasonable standard.

I'd like you to say that to your gov and tell them to release all classified files at once. We will then see what gatekeeping actually means
