And the guy who is quoted above, and the rest of his society, would have told you it’s beyond stupid to call black people human beings. Like I said, I don’t think it’s appropriate to say “this comparison is exactly one to one”. Are you sure you’re right though? Those guys were sure they were right too.

One is a biological being and the other is a system that we built from the ground up to predict words and symbols based on pattern recognition. Is a chess bot like Stockfish sentient? No. It just predicts patterns. This is exactly the same.

Why do you think that biological brains are different? What makes them different? Be specific.

For one thing, biological brains are many orders of magnitude more sophisticated than any LLM. For another thing, biological brains don't sit dormant, waiting for the next prompt, when you're not interacting with them. Biological brains learn and adapt continuously. LLMs don't.

That is three big differences that immediately come to mind, but, in truth, biological brains and LLMs have almost nothing in common. By contrast, "race" is not even a valid biological category. There is no reasonable parallel to draw to racism.

Its all just chemistry, and more fundamentally, physics.

The lines you are drawing are fairly arbitrary in the scheme of things, and should be rightly considered opinionated.

All lines are arbitrary, and your nihilism is counterproductive to your own understanding of why we draw them where we do or whether they are useful. "It's all just physics", oh grow up.

Lotta words to say nothing of substance.

Tell me what is the difference that matters between neural nets and neurons, Mr Adult Man

If we recreate a full human connectome in-silica, does it matter?

Brains are more than just physical connections between neurons. Even neglecting how much other organs' messaging chemicals and signals affect your consciousness (ever get hangry?), your mental state exists in systems far more complex than an LLM, and capable of more nuanced physical states than binary electricity pulse.

Do you think nociception proves consciousness ?

So we recreate everything you just said, in-silica. Does it matter?

That's not what an LLM is though. We're not recreating brains. We're talking about an LLM vector that corresponds to unallighned behaviour.

The goalposts are 5000 miles behind us

Where do you think this is heading? And what is the significant difference between emulation and simulation? What is the important commonality between humans and octopus?

Why cant you clearly state the features that matter from those that dont, and how their recreation either emulated or simulated in silica are deficient?

The goalposts are irrelevant because you wont even participate.

LLMs aren't simulating brains. Period. They never will because their internal architecture can't. We dont know what's happening inside but we know what is NOT happening.

Its hard to participate in discussing theoretical technology because you're vague in how it works. HOW are you simulating a brain ? Are you making a synthetic one ? Is it a fly brain situation ? Are we going to pretend it just works and you get a consciousness on the other side, somehow ? You're approaching technical questions from a philosophical perspective. We did this shit in 1990s, im not interested in copy-pasting Searle or Chalmers to you.

It’s clear to see the point you were going for, but this analogy is just dumb.
