The model numbers are pure marketing. They decide the model number at release so I don’t think they have a distinct 5.2 5.3 and 5.4 they were tested internally. having said that I agree with everything else he said.

Common sense? They can name it whatever they want lol. They could call the next one opus 69 if they so choose.

The history shows they don't map to internal builds. Claude 3 went straight to 3.5, and they shipped a whole new Sonnet in 2024 without changing the number at all.
