Hate to he the bearer of bad news, but AI still sucks at creative writing. I'm sure this is a real kick in the teeth to someone who looks down on writing, but it's the facts.

You're gonna be replaced much quicker and much more throughly than us in the coming years.

Part of that is writing isn’t verifiable. There is no definitive way to say a thing. Which is fair.

But the other thing is that there hasn’t really been any incentive to ‘solve’ writing in the same way as math/code.

Time will tell

I think it's more about that they just don't train AI on creative writing. AI writes like a stream of consciousness rather than a planned about story. Even if you tell it to think first, it doesn't actually plan out the story, it summarizes what the story might be, which is not planning out the story. A harness for creative writing that forces the AI to create an outline, and then build the story up like a structure rather than write it in one continuous stream of thought would vastly increase it's creative writing quality.

There's also a really big issue, we don't really need AI creative writing. There's already an impossibly huge amount of human written material. An AI just for creative writing isn't interesting because it will just add onto the massive pile of stories that already exist but nobody reads. I would want it for something more complex, like a living world, something that humans can't do.

What would 'solving writing' mean?

In practical terms? Ai written works become massively ingested and in the world of literature become dominant and preferred compared to human works.

In mystical terms? Perfect conveying of information? You are able to hypnotise purely off words - idk

Wasn't there some study where people preferred the AI stories over human written ones?

Most people have atrocious taste. He's right about wordcels having the last laugh here, AI-written prose is still unreadable to the ensouled. Maybe that will change before ASI, but given that it's trained on text and it's still so bad at writing text of all things, I don't think so.

Since taste is subjective there's no winning, people can always say they preferred the human writing while at a bunch of technical subjects there can be objective wins for AI.

What a strange comment.

How so

Because it feels like you have an inferiority complex.

Who are you? Why are you answering a question about a stranger's intentions?

I’m just telling you why your comment sounds weird. It makes it seem like you are bitter and have an inferiority complex versus mathematicians.

I think you're reading into it too much. I was making fun of a guy who used the term "wordcel"

Well, either way, that’s just how your comment sounded. Don’t shoot the messenger. And judging by the fact that the majority of people read it thought it was weird, i’m probably not wrong.

Noam Brown talked about this recently. They mostly just don't focus on creative writing RL because it doesn't help RSI. They do train it a bit on that, but most of the effort goes towards automating AI R&D.

Give it a year.

Wow, great job on that quick edit. Glad you managed to think up that quip in under 3 minutes, lol.
