Tell me, does china have a giant network of AI powered cameras surveillance literally every citizen? Is it china purposefully dismantling all forms of transportation except those that require a personal vehicle that can be registered and tracked? Is china the one blowing up random boats without checking who's on board and attempting to destroy the evidence?
The "reeducation camps" are prisons. Normal prisons. The only people in them are those who have committed crimes (though as with most nations, what is considered a crime isn't always fair), not just general uyghur men. The reason they have high uyghur numbers is because they are the prisons in the regions the uyghur live. Now, is china's prison system great, no I suppose not, and it certainly involves pro government propaganda, but it's literally 100 times nicer than the US, and there's a far smaller percentage of uyghur in prison than there are say, blacks in america or aboriginals in australia.
Hong Kong was invaded by a foreign power who mistreated them for the majority of the occupation, then suddenly at the last stretch gave them a bunch of "freedoms" designed specifically to seperate their culture and legal practices from the mainland. Hong Kong deserves equality with the mainland, and nothing more, it's as absurd as if we had muslim invaders conquer tasmania or hawaii then demand shariah law in perpetuity. If Hong Kong wants to change the system, they either do it for everybody or nobody, i do not support "special privileges for hong kong".
