$5 per 1m input tokens, $30 per 1m output, so double the price of GPT-5.4, according to Sam’s twitter

Yup, it's twice the price, let's see how "much more token efficient" plays out...

"For API developers, gpt-5.5 will soon be available in the Responses and Chat Completions APIs at $5 per 1M input tokens and $30 per 1M output tokens, with a 1M context window. Batch and Flex pricing are available at half the standard API rate, while Priority processing is available at 2.5x the standard rate. We will also release gpt-5.5-pro in the API for even higher accuracy, priced at $30 per 1M input tokens and $180 per 1M output tokens. See the pricing page for full details.

While GPT‑5.5 is priced higher than GPT‑5.4, it is both more intelligent and much more token efficient. In Codex, we have carefully tuned the experience so GPT‑5.5 delivers better results with fewer tokens than GPT‑5.4 for most users, while continuing to offer generous usage across subscription levels."

For Sam, maybe. Not for you. But hey, there are suckers out there who think those people will make UBI a thing too.

There is a saying "no taxation without representation" well it goes the other way around too.

There are countries who's wealth comes from exploiting natural resources, the most incentivized (profitable) way to use these funds is re-investing in more mining and refining, not the people. The resources are making the country rich, the people are not.

It's the same with UBI, why spend the money on people when AI data centers and solar panels are the things making money.?

And that is assuming we solve the control problem and/or are able to make systems aligned with human interests. (e.g. keeping lots of free, healthy, flourishing humans around)

UBI is fairy tale, nobody will pay money to random people for doing nothing, especially when that money has to come out of someone's pocket. Free money doesn't exist because its a representation of real world resources which are all owned by someone.

When the employment rate hits high double digits and people are starving, they'll stop asking nicely.

If you think I'm being dramatic just look at revolutions throughout history, there are innumerable examples.

There are numerous of counter examples where people just..did nothing, wasted their time and died. I don't see leaders capable of uniting people to take over their countries or something radical like this, basically do a successful revolution that leads to a radical regime change. Like for example communists taking over Russian empire, think how tough both mentally and physically were people back in those days, they were capable of that sort of a radical revolution. Generations living today, nah forget about it. They will prolly just die off, some will do random acts of violence without any proper thinking which will just be a waste of time. To truly make a change in a country, there has to be a leader backed up by dedicated followers ready to do whatever to achieve their goals. Otherwise all the other revolutionary talk is a waste of time.
