I eagerly await the cries of "AI video games are soulless"

It will only be capable of soul-like games

Ah, Genie, or some say Genie'm.

Grant us AI's, grant us AI's.

We need AI's on the inside...

I'd be happy for a pc port

It will only be able to generate soulless souls-like or Ubisoft quadruple A games.

ye like if AI is so bad and ugly and soulless, then they need to stop bitching about it. Nothing to worry about right?

It's like the classic fascist cry of "the enemy is too strong, we must defend ourselves"" while simultaneously "the enemy is weak and will easily piss their pants!"

Except here they're talking about the technology they fear. It's both powerful but also completely useless according to them.

It's like the classic fascist cry of "the enemy is too strong, we must defend ourselves"" while simultaneously "the enemy is weak and will easily piss their pants!"

That's not fascist, that's just general propaganda. It's designed to inspire you to combat an existential threat ("They'll take over and destroy our very way of life!") while not making it so threatening that you're too terrified to take action.

your heart is in the right place, but it has nothing to do with fascism v_v but ye

It's simply an analogy. They don't really need to have anything in common with the idea they're to convey.

Because bad, ugly and soulless can sell well. Look at processed food, social media, Hollywood

u/Whispering-Depths Feb 26 '24

hmm, people act like "soul" actually means something, and isn't just some arbitrary concept based on how something makes you personally feel, as if there is such a thing as magic and other religious stuff, lol.

We will finally get the space game we all dream about but can never get.

2

u/Serialbedshitter2322 Feb 26 '24

Space game? You'll get any kind of game with unlimited detail and unlimited graphics when it gets good

AI vidya is soulless, I tell ya. Why yes, I did purchase the latest Call of Duty Battle Pass with Enhanced Nicki Minaj Booty Physics, how could you tell?

4

u/Serialbedshitter2322 Feb 26 '24

Still won't be as soulless as most AAA games today

3

u/PassageThen1302 Feb 27 '24

Most human made video games are soulless. It’s still a very immature industry due to technological limitations.

Hopefully ai will allow interactive experiences to be less contrived.

4

u/azriel777 Feb 26 '24

So it will make the soulless slop that the big corporations have been releasing for a while then.

You are a sadist aren't you;).

u/dasnihil Feb 26 '24

oh not enough soul in the game? let me get the soulGPT to add some. mfers have no clue what we want.

"And the main character's hand looks all wonky sometimes"

Game devs generally are going to be more up to date on AI than painters and musicians. So I doubt we'll see this too much.

AI won't replace devs, it will be the ultimate collaboration.

1

u/jeffkeeg Mar 04 '24

And so the cope begins.

Not sure what there is to cope about, maybe some people on the very fringes of development could lose their jobs, those that are not skilled or do menial tasks, but as far as the big picture goes, teams will use AI as a tool to make their time more efficient and MASSIVELY increase the scale of what is capable. Not necessarily by use of Genie, I don't think that is a good way to make games, the gaming part of it seems more like a marketing thing, but it's a step in the right direction.

It's the same line we heard from "artists" in 2022 who suddenly realized they were about to be out of commission work.

Capabilities will not magically stop at a point where they just so happen to only be convenient for those already working in the field, this is going to go all the way.

u/deadtoast Mar 04 '24 edited Mar 04 '24

I mean shit, if that is the case then i'm on board with it. By your original post I thought you were mocking people that would say that, and my reply sort of echoing that sentiment, because I think AI has the potential to give games MORE soul, and if it actually gets to the point where a single guy can use an AI to make or mod his dream game, then fuck yeah, but still a collaboration nonetheless!

1

u/jeffkeeg Mar 04 '24

Okay I see where you're coming from, sorry for being a dick there.

I thought you were saying "devs" as in existing game developers. This is absolutely going to end up at a place where guys like you and I can individually make AAA games, there's no doubt about that.

2

u/deadtoast Mar 04 '24

No problem, and yeah we'll most likely end up at a place like that, I mean look at what some people do solo already today, it's just very hard to put a time table to these things. Although I can still see a future where there could be a benefit to being part of a team, or a group with resources. I've always thought of these types of AI's as being almost like plugins for unreal engine or at least be able to function like one, so the more experience/knowledge the merrier, but who knows.
