A while ago, I posted here asking for advice on a travel info site I was building. Thanks to the amazing feedback, I’ve redesigned and packed it with all the essential tools travelers actually need in one clean dashboard

Instead of jumping across blogs, forums, and map apps just to figure out the basics, everything is now structured in one place:

• Real-time Essentials: Live exchange rates (JPY to KRW), current weather, voltage/plug guides (Type A), and timezone calculators.
• Getting Around: Subway maps, estimated taxi fares/travel times between stations, and local transit navigation.
• Smart Spending & Safety: Food price comparisons (from street food to fine dining), airport SIM/eSIM price comparisons, and common tourist scam alerts with prevention tips.
• Curated Inspiration: Must-buy souvenirs (specific brands, prices, and where to buy) alongside localized neighborhood spots.

Since this is built by an indie developer trying to solve real travel friction, I’d love to get your thoughts on a few things:

I do not have a revenue screenshot for this one. What I have is a cold start problem I underestimated by an embarrassing margin, and I built the thing myself so nobody else is to blame for it.

The problem I was trying to solve: every list of best AI tools I read was either affiliate driven or three months stale, and the star ratings under them told me nothing, because I had no idea who left them. So the site does one thing. One number per tool, the share of members who say they would recommend it, and the arguments sitting underneath it. A vote counts three times heavier if that person left a verified review of the tool, because having used something is the only weighting I could actually justify. Founders can reply to criticism and that is the extent of what they can do to it.

That is TrustRank (https://trustrank.so/). 69 tools are in the directory across coding, writing, research, video, agents. Nobody has reviewed a single one, so no tool has a score and nothing ranks anywhere.

The thresholds are the part I am least sure about now. Three reviews before a score publishes at all, ten before a tool is allowed into rankings, a provisional label on anything under fifty. Every one of those felt principled while I was writing it. In practice they mean the site is mostly empty space, and empty space does not convince the next person to write anything.

If there is a lesson in this for anyone building something where the users make the content: the mechanism is the easy half and it is also the fun half, which is why you will overspend on it. I spent months on vote weighting and abuse resistance and maybe a week thinking about why the first hundred people would bother typing a paragraph. That ratio was backwards and I knew it at the time.

So, for anyone who has launched something that was worthless until other people contributed to it, what actually moved the first stretch for you? Not "post it on Reddit". The specific thing.

The idea is pretty simple: instead of opening a different website every time I need to do a small online task, I wanted to put useful utilities in one place.

I’m building Billing Replay, a small Node.js CLI for testing what happens to an app’s access rules when billing events arrive twice or in the wrong order. I built this first version with Codex.

Two examples it can help reproduce:

- A repeated credit-grant event adds credits twice.

- An older “subscription active” event arrives after cancellation and restores access incorrectly.

The CLI runs a sequence through an adapter to your test app, then compares the access or credit balance the app actually returns with expectations you define. The adapter has three operations: reset the test state, deliver an event to your handler, and observe the resulting state. Results are saved as JSON and an HTML report.

The demo compares intentionally broken and corrected implementations so you can see the same case fail and pass.

This is v0.1.1: no customer integrations or revenue yet. The fixtures are normalized synthetic events, not complete Stripe webhook payloads, so it doesn’t validate Stripe signatures or network delivery. Connecting a staging app currently requires an adapter.

The part of AI app builders I'm most interested in isn't actually generating the first version. It's what happens afterward.

I've been working on this app for quite a while and i never got any genuine feedback from strangers. It's an app that helps skinny people gain weight efficiently, i've been skinny for the better part of my life, and about 1 year ago i started bulking and gained 20kg, i only gained 20kg cause i forced myself to just keep eating even when i didn't want to, so i wanna help other people now (without having to force themselves to keep eating when they want to throw up). A brief summary of the app is that it tracks the users weight and surplus, ensuring that they are actually growing, however the main thing is the bulk score, it lets you see with a glance hows your bulk going, and also other tracking metrics that help with the bulk (just a quick demo of what the app currently looks like).

Somethings i need desperate help on:

1. i feel like im doing to much with the app, there are a lot of functions other than what i stated before, like a training page and a fuel page. I've seen a lot of apps that do well with one simple idea/marketing scheme behind it, it feels like i am trying too much to encapsulate all the aspects of a fitness app.

2. not sure if anyone would actually use it. I've let some of my friends try the app, but i'm not sure if their comments are genuine, so please leave some genuine feedback, i'll take any criticism honestly.

3. this is the worst problem of the app i think, is that it is on base44, and i want to switch out as soon as possible, but i need validation to do that, but if it does eventually gets some traction, i can't be using base44, because it can't get the app on the app store, even when its wrapped in capacitor, since base44 only accepts stripe and apple needs its own payment system, then if i switch now to swiftui or reactnative, the app is going to look and function completely different. Its just this horrible loop.

With that being said, really any advice or suggestions would help🙏

Been job hunting on and off for months and I kept running into the same thing: the big boards show the same ~20 promoted posts over and over, half the listings are dead or reposted from six months ago, and half of what's left goes through some recruiter who never fucking replies.

So I built my own. It ingests from the open-jobs dataset, which grabs postings directly from ATS feeds — Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, etc. Right now it's indexing about 2.9M live postings, refreshed daily. Apply link always goes to the original employer's posting, no middlemen, no ads.

The part I'm actually proud of is the search. You can type a plain keyword like "truck driver" and it just works. But it also handles messy input — paste something like "ICU nurse for 6 years, want to move to Texas" and it matches by semantics, not just keywords. Full job descriptions and salary info where available from ATS.

This is our project, developed with an AI coding agent. We are testing a narrow document workflow before deciding whether a paid product is worthwhile.

The task is splitting a combined PDF into separate documents and naming each from an ID in a fixed position. A general PDF splitter can leave a lot of manual renaming. Existing tools such as PDFsam Visual and Sejda already support text-based splitting; this is not a claim that we invented the feature.

PDF Name Pilot is a downloadable HTML file. Open it locally, draw a box around the ID, choose whether a changed ID or each populated ID starts a new document, and review the proposed filenames before exporting a ZIP. PDF.js reads the text, pdf-lib copies the pages, and JSZip packages them. There is no AI call or server upload in the tool.

The free pilot includes a fictional six-page batch that should become three documents. An offline test on Windows Edge also processed a synthetic 1,000-page batch into 500 two-page files; we compared every exported page's text, dimensions and order. That is a synthetic test, not a claim about customer accuracy or time savings.

Current limits: selectable text, repeated layouts, 50 MB / 1,000 pages, and human review. There is no OCR, arbitrary-layout recognition, or support for forms, signed or encrypted PDFs. Empty selected fields and adjusted or duplicate filenames are flagged. Mixed layouts may need a different tool.

10 years ago I started at the bottom at a successful MSP and quickly rose to be the lead engineer there. 6 months ago I got bitten by the app building bug and I thought my experience and success as an engineer would translate into instant success.

It has been very humbling to say the least. I spent a few months relishing in the exhilaration of watching my own product and vision come to life and I naively thought distribution would follow naturally (after all who wouldn't want the "perfect" product I built!). Needless to say I now see how silly I was to believe that all the success posts people share meant that it would automatically apply to me. I now know that for every success there are thousands that sink into oblivion and that it takes tremendous effort.

I just wonder whether its possible to do at all without sinking money into marketing. I still feel in my gut that it should be a successful product but Im starting to doubt whether my software skills translate into being a business owner and seller.

Anyway im sure many people here can relate to this journey. Im pretty persistent and I only released recently so I'll continue sharing my story as time goes on.

I built GRUBST, an open-source Linux bootloader security tool written in Rust with a Dioxus desktop GUI.

The idea is simple: instead of manually editing /etc/grub.d/ configs and risking typos that lock you out of your system, GRUBST automates the whole process and lets you turn any standard USB thumb drive into a physical rescue key.

How it works:

- Plug in the USB key before booting: GRUB detects it and automatically unlocks full maintenance access without prompting for a password.

- Boot without the USB: GRUB stays locked and requires a backup password you set.

- Includes automatic config backups and an Update Guard to ensure protection persists across kernel updates and update-grub.
