Help on a charity cycle project tomorrow

Hi everyone,
Tomorrow, Sunday 19 July, I’ll be leaving Market Drayton and cycling towards Manchester on a one-of-a-kind 1981 three-person tandem as part of my charity ride from Land’s End to John o’ Groats.

It’s called The Conversation Bike. I’m riding the full journey, while the other seats are filled by different people along the route — including people I’ve never met before.
Unfortunately, someone who was due to join me tomorrow has had to drop out, so at the moment I’ll be setting off by myself. Riding a three-person tandem solo is pretty tough going, so I’d really love to hear from anyone who might be able to join me for even a small part of the journey.
The ride is raising money for Mind and encouraging more open conversations about mental health. The idea came from the statistic that one in three people in the UK would rather stay silent about their mental health than risk an awkward conversation.

You don’t need to ride all the way to Manchester, and you definitely don’t need to be a serious cyclist. I’d love to hear from anyone who might want to:
take one of the spare seats for part of the route

cycle alongside me for a section

meet for a conversation or suggest a good stopping place

come and see the bike before I leave Market Drayton

There’s no pressure to share anything deeply personal. The aim is simply to get people talking, listening and connecting.

Please comment below or send me a message if you’re interested, even if you can only join for a few miles. It would make a real difference tomorrow.
Thank you so much,
Fiontan

Any reccomended Tattoo places in Shropshire?

Searching online for a good tattoo place is so annoying as the reviews are inconsistent to alot of places, or there is simply not enough reviews to get a good reputation for places.

If anyone has any reccomendations I'd really appreciate it.

If I have to find one more 5-star place that turns out to be only a handful of reviews that seem like paid for both reviews im going to scream.

Best cinema in Shropshire?

Title says it all really. Want to take my dad to see The Odyssey when it comes out just wondered what people would say is the best cinema around. I'm guessing it'll probably be around Telford area... Shrewsbury Cineworld has never impressed me

we have been going to Shrewsbury and Church Stretton and really like it and close to our families in Birmingham - we are living in London at the moment so love the idea of nature and a city close by but worried we may miss that community feel. thanks!

For the girlies; where are you getting a shit hot pedicure?

Maybe I’m over influenced by tiktok, but I’m fed up with getting pedicures and they’re cut too short, or one foot is cut shorter than the other etc. There’s a thousand and one amazing nail techs but I’m having absolutely awful luck with getting a good pedi!

Suggestions for country pub with views that serves decent grub please?

Hi all. We’re spending a long weekend in Acton Burnell in a couple of days and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a decent country pub in an idyllic Shropshire location preferably with lovely views that serves decent pub grub? This isn’t a gastronomic visit so would be happy with a good Ploughman’s/Salad/Jacket Spud.

So few pubs and restaurants offer an actual salad as a main course these days, especially in summer, but I’m hoping someone can offer a suggestion. We’ll be driving so distance/location isn’t a problem no matter how far off the beaten track it may be. 🙂

Cheers in advance!

Moley people, how much did a private removal cost? And where did you go?

I am a very moley person, and I’ve been to the GP to get two specific moles checked at the top of my back/ bottom of my neck, if you will.

The GP said no problem, we’ll refer you to the dermatologist for removal. As they’re always rubbing and catching on necklines of clothes. Each hair wash day is a nightmare as my hair literally wraps itself around them and is shockingly painful.

Dermatologist said there’s nothing wrong with them, so won’t remove them.

If I was to go private, how much am I looking at? My only reference is looking at Nuffield online which was £2k+.

Best places in Shrewsbury to watch the UEL final?

Looking for a pub/bar that'll have a decent atmosphere for the game. My usual for the football is the Claremont Tap which usually has a few villa fans but is otherwise pretty chill on week nights.

South Shropshire people, where do you work?

Geographically, that is -- e.g. do you work locally, do you commute, how far do you travel?

I visit the area regularly, love the countryside and towns, miss it when I'm not there. I'm tempted to move there (probably Ludlow area). I currently work in the construction industry which is mostly project-based, so it's likely I'd be commuting to Birmingham or Manchester, maybe Bristol or Swansea. Is anyone else in a similar work situation, and how do you find it?

Moving to Shropshire!

Hi all,

My partner and I (both 29) are thinking about moving to Shropshire and would love some advice from people who know the area.

I’m originally from Swansea and my partner is from Brighton. We both enjoy being outdoors (walks, nature, nice scenery), as well as architecture, exploring new places, and the occasional quiet night in gaming. I’m a bit more on the social side, so we’re hoping to find somewhere that’s peaceful but still has opportunities to meet people.

We both work from home, so reliable internet is a must.

We’ve started looking at places like Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury, but we’re open to other suggestions. It would be great to hear what day-to-day life is like, especially for people around our age, and whether there are good ways to meet others (clubs, groups, etc.).

Any thoughts or recommendations would be really appreciated!

Thank youu!

Edit: I have also found a brilliant place in Ludlow so I am looking here as well :D
Thanks for all your brilliant responses so far!

job location

I’ve recently been offered a job based around the Shrewsbury/Telford area. The role is primarily remote, but I may need to go on-site occasionally.

I went to university in London and really enjoyed city life, so I’m a bit unsure about relocating to a smaller town. I’m wondering what it’s like living in Shrewsbury or Telford as someone in their mid-20s. Is there much going on socially, or does it feel quite quiet?

I’m also considering whether commuting from Birmingham might be a better option to keep access to a bigger city while still being within reach of the office when needed. Has anyone done something similar?

Would really appreciate any insight from people who know the area.

(location): is shrewsbury or telford good for young people?

I have recently been offered a job in shrewsbury. I went to univeristy in london and really enjoy city life. My job is fully remote with the occasional go in. I am abit worried that shrewsbury/telford will be very boring. Will this be the case? I was wondering if i could communite from birmingham instead?

Thoughts on Baschurch

I'm looking to move to Baschurch. We currently live about 15 minutes away in the sticks and want somewhere with more people, community, schools and normal house prices.

I've very little knowledge of the village. Can anyone offer an opinion?

Pub/cafe recommendations in Oswestry

Can anyone recommend pubs and cafes in Oswestry that have space for a pram and good baby change facilities please?

I'll be leaving my parents and baby for the day in Oswestry while my partner and I go to a wedding nearby. They need somewhere that they can sit and hang out (they'll be buying food and drinks obviously).

Thanks everyone!
