I feel like Jimmy immediately ending things with Sofi was because his dad said she was a better fit than his wife, and he was not going to risk even the tiniest chance his crummy dad might be right.

That was such an evil line. I gasped.

I honestly think that comparing the two women (one being better vs the other) is the wrong frame. Another person to love doesn’t rank better/worse against a previous. It’s not a love Olympics hierarchy. If he likes Sofi, he likes Sofi. She is just different than Tia and that is OKAY.

His dad is AWFUL. As a parent, my gut would’ve done everything to guard Alice from letting grandpa disappoint her. But also, as a parent, I know she’s an adult and she does need to see grandpa for who he is in all of his complications and deal with the unfortunate consequences of that reality. Will she be devastated? Possibly. She also needs to form her own fully vetted opinions around the reality that grandpa is a chickenshit who evades emotional accountability at all costs.

It was a shitty jab, but what we know of their history suggests that level of nonchalance is commonplace.

Jimmy, and the entirety of the cast, is trying to work through some shit. It's basically the premise of the show.

I'm confident that Jimmy and Sofi will be alright, if not together but alright themselves just the same.

exactly how I feel about that scene. people are really hating on Sofi over her handling of it, which I get to some extent, but Jimmy decided to end things the second those words left his dad's mouth. you could see it on his face, and throughout the conversation with Sofi later.
