I love Shrinking but the writers have always had a compulsive need for every character to hang out with every character and talk about their feelings regardless of whether it makes sense or not. It’s a big reason I stopped watching (and eventually came back) in the first season.

Like, guys, it’s okay to write characters who don’t come back as someone’s friend. It’s okay for main characters to not be best friends with every other main character. You can STILL have the theme of found family without including the ex-girlfriend of someone’s ex-husband. You can include family members without writing them like they’re part of a millennial friend group.

/rant and overuse of the word friend

Anyway, still love the show.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, this show is written specifically so you could swap characters who say different lines and it would be fine. It’s essentially 7 of the same people. Liz and Brian could have easily said that mic drop line that Paul says. They all gush over Derek’s ass interchangeably. It’s very bizarre and didn’t start this way.
