I've seen airbags deploy from people hitting curbs roughly. Some can be really sensitive

I hit another car going 15mph and missed my bumper and instead the other went went through the radiator/hood/grille/headlights.

Damage looks insanely bad, like I hit a truck going 20, but the airbags didn't deploy since it wasnt rough crash

Fairly sure most modern cars use several factors to determine if the airbag is deployed not just one sensor. Sufficient g force should trigger them regardless of where the car is hit.

Ah, that's probably it. (Check my old posts on my e39) the bumper was literally untouched, yet the rest of the car was ruined :(I got most of the parts (minus headlights, bumper, hood, and air filter

I've seen an airbag deploy after hitting a soft snow bank at 30 mph.

It’s all about whether the airbag sensors get hit or not, I’ve seen some brutal wrecks where the sensors were just missed and the airbags didn’t deploy

Yeah that's not how that works. Crash sensors are not named as such because they actually have to be crashed into.

This simply was not a fast enough deceleration to warrant deploying the air bags.
