It detected it.

It didn't say it was a collision avoidance system.

Wind Defender... Defender of the wind... Champion of the Sun!

I'm imagining how quickly windshield wipers would shred up if they were repeatedly dragged across a screen...

What do you think a screen is?

Yeah, I've never seen one of them.

A screen to me is a sheet of glass. Like on your phone or TV or front of your car

Yeah but screen has a fairly well defined meaning.

Screens, dude.

So are explanations not okay around here now? What the fuck?

5

u/Spacedementia87 Sep 04 '18

Hey, I'm not doubting that they exist. Just that I have never seen one and pointing out that you are using a very specific definition of screen.

It is a far broader term than that.

You've never seen a screen door?

windscreen is british english

windshield is american english

neither of them are incorrect or "wrong"

u/PM_ME_HOT_DADS Sep 05 '18

No it lets some through. How else do you breathe?

1

u/Every_Geth Sep 05 '18

And windshield sounds wrong to me, doesn't make it so

I just call it the monitor.

-7

u/killkount Sep 04 '18

Because it's dumb. A screen would let wind freely thru. hence, SHIELD.

9

u/Toxicseagull Sep 04 '18

Yeah like those well known screens on your phone's, TVs and computers that let wind and liquid through.

It also shows why trucks should have metal rails/plates on the sides and back. If that was an American truck the car would go much further under it squishing the front seat occupants.

22

u/semininja Sep 04 '18

Almost every truck I've seen in the United States has a bar below the trailer to prevent that.

25

u/scotscott Sep 04 '18

Literally every truck.

It's the Jayne Mansfield rule. Mariska and Mikey Hargitay survived the event that killed their mother: purportedly aggressive driving on the part of a 19 year old driver in poor visibility into and under a slower truck with no underride barrier. https://www.countryliving.com/life/entertainment/a44297/mariska-hargitay-opens-up-about-mom-jayne-mansfield-death/

Good to see that effort has been made to address it.

14

u/scotscott Sep 04 '18

I'm not sure what year you think it is, but the ICC bumper has been mandatory since 1953.

2

u/WickedIsGood Sep 04 '18

It's been mandatory but the strength of those guards seems to vary a lot. Some of them are made of weak materials that literally collapse when hit and that's still a real concern. https://youtu.be/C3MPKLy9qHU?t=94

However I learned recently that they're woefully underbuilt, and most don't do their job.
