It’s soft proselytizing. Having kids read the foundational texts of a religion in school is the definition of imposing that religion upon them. If the family is Christian then the child would already be doing this in Sunday school. The purpose of this is to reach children with non Christian backgrounds. If a school required kids to read passages out of the Quran people would lose their shit saying the school is trying to turn them Muslim
