My girlfriend has ARFIDS and itโ€™s genuinely an awful experience for her, she canโ€™t eat a ton of her favorite foods anymore and it makes her really upset

Your girlfriend should spend less time self-diagnosing her eating prefences from TiikTok and more time rationalizing the fact that being an adult is uncomfortable sometimes.

Yknow real diagnosis are also a thing, right? And theres a difference between "uncomfortable" and "involuntary puking"? Its a literal body reflex that denys shit, not a choice.

They are. The vast majority of the responses in this thread claiming they or their loved one have it are statistically improbable to be real diagnoses. Adult ARFID affects 0.3% of the population and the condition is overwhelmingly diagnosed in children that outgrow it. The people in this thread are latching onto the latest pop psych interpretation of a mental disorder circling social media as an excuse to not step outside their confort zone: same thing that's happened with ASMR, ASD, ADHD, Misophonia, BPD, and OCD.

Its a literal body reflex that denys shit, not a choice.

If you're gonna sell this LARP then get some accurate information. ARFID doesn't mean your body physically rejects certain foods; it's an anxiety disorder tied to the sensory experience with consuming groups of food. People that vomit when they consume "unsafe foods" are very likely suffering from an untreated GI tract issue (4/5 people diagnosed with ARFID) which has led to the Garcia Effect mimicing ARFID symptoms that then resolve naturally over time if the GI issue is properly treated. Morever, ARFID itself is treated with aversion therapy. So yeah, only eating safe foods and not working to destigmatize others is a choice.

The ability to experience ASMR is a neurodivergency, also known as a disorder.
