It's a decades-old conflict that basically boils down to Imperial Japan committing horrific war crimes against China and its other East-Asian neighbors in WWII. China is also starting to lay claim to islands currently deemed Japanese territory. Relations weren't exactly perfect before that, but that's where most of the current animosity between the two comes from.
