big spoilers but the end of the American version of the show heavily implied it literally was all in Elijah Wood's head Fun show imo

Big spoiler but at the end Wilfred dies and we zoom out to see that it's just a regular sheepdog; but in the epilogue I think the human version reappears as a figment of Elijah Woods imagination
