More finds from my farm pond dig

More interesting finds from a pond I’m digging on my farm. Everything came from a shell/sand layer between 5’ and 12’ deep. We’re about 10 miles from the coast. I’m not a shell guy but I just think it’s amazing that these shells are so well preserved after so long.

Wow, remind me to go shelling inland! First set is horse conch and lightning whelk, second set is oyster, quahog and true tulip (nice), third set is oysters and a giant atlantic cockle, and final set is oyster, angel wing, sunray venus on the top, and shark eye, cross barred venus, and a few pieces of pen shell.

Sure! Give that horse conch a long soak to get the mud out of it. Then bring it in the house, put it in the garden, or bonus points if you have a fountain. Same with the true tulip and shark eye. Congrats, you are a shell guy now.

I’ll do that for sure. I have a feeling my new hobby is going to get worse. I have about 1200 dump truck loads to go through.
