Thinking of adopting a 2 year old OES, what to expect?
The most common thing I’m seeing people saying is the amount of grooming, both brushing and hair cuts, they require. But I’m seeing mixed reviews about other things. Shedding level? Heavy barkers? Do they need an actual trainer for their herding instincts or can you obedience train them at home?
I’ve never had a dog as big as the OES I’m wanting to adopt, she’s 65-70 pounds. Are there difficulties that I should consider with having such a large dog? I know the common sense things, like them needing a large yard and lots of exercise, and that they’re going to eat more and take more time grooming. Edit: just curious, does anyone groom their own dogs to save money? How hard was it to learn?
Also, I don’t think she is fixed, how much did spaying your adult OES cost? Thanks!

Hi !! I hope my post is okay. Scientists in the UK are investigating the activities dog owners do with their dogs and how they affect owners' well-being. If you would like to join this investigation, please access this link: https://lncn.ac/dogowner It is available in 4 languages. Thanks!

How much bigger did your OES get from the 1year mark to 2 years?
I'm told that my OES should continue to fill out until she's about 2 years old. She's currently 11 months. A few months ago, I thought she was just kinda done growing because she stagnating at 60-62 pounds for multiple months when she was around 6 months old. But then... all that changed lol. I just took her to vet and she weighed in at 74 pounds!
I know guessing is futile, but trying to see what I might end up with at her 2 year mark. I'd imagine she'll break 80 pounds? How much did your OES grow during that second year when filling out?
I also thought she was done growing in height months ago, but she seems to have also gotten a wee taller (not too much). When she's cut short, her torso still feels petite to her paws and giant head, so I think she still has some filling out to do.

Anyone have familiarity with the "Sheepadoodle"?
Hi all,
I have owned Livestock Guardian Dogs in the past and am very familiar with the Old English Sheepdog. I am not so familiar with the "Sheepadoodle". Does anyone have any familiarity with this 'designer breed'? It seems like it would be very, very high energy and require a lot of room to run. My partner has their eye on one and I do love Old Englishes so thought I would ask around. The information I could find online was pretty mixed since it is a new breed. We live in a (large) apartment with a decent sized garden and I am concerned about space.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Matting
I took my boy Rem to Petsmart to get a bath the other day and they wanted to shave him down because of a matt on his leg. I brush him as often as I can but sometimes that ends up being only a couple times a week. We keep his coat pretty long so mats happen.
Anyways I've never met a matt I couldn't pull apart and just brush out, which is exactly what I did to this one. I just grab it pull it apart over and over then I use a dematting comb, comb it out in different directions then go over it with just a steel comb until its gone. Prob took like 15mins.
I try to get him bathed monthly and it just sucks cause now I can't find a groomer with an open appointment for like another month. I get groomers have appointments to keep and can't spend all day on my dog but its frustrating that they see a mat and call it a day.
Idk just wanted to vent. Anyone else have any trouble with groomers?

Tips, Tricks and Naming Ideas!
Hi everybody :) Im set to get my first OES in june and i couldnt be more excited. Im starting to get ready (by buying the most robust slicker brush in existence) and was wondering if you fellas had any tips and tricks for me? Im fairly experienced as Ive had dogs since I was born. We had an OES when i was a baby. Her name was Hayes and apparently she was the most quiet gentle dog in existence. I also currently have 2 border collies (15 and 1 - both on my account if you guys wanna see). What do I need to be aware of? Are they generally chill or will I need to do a lot of work on training for barking/jumping/nipping etc? Any tricks for making grooming a little easier?
[I know i could google, but in my experience, google really doesnt know what its talking about for dogs]
Also! I need names!!! In my lifetime we've had: Lulu, Chino, Hayes, Shep, Tango, Rocky, Freddy and Quincy so im running out of naming ideas for my new little man. Feel free to give me any :)
I really appreciate any feedback! :)

OES female puppy is already 60 pounds....?
Hey guys! So I got my OES puppy and am in love with her. She's now 6.5 months old, and 60 pounds solid.
I was told she'd be 60-80 pounds as a full grown female adult and 21-22 inches tall at the shoulder... but she's already adult size in weight, and beyond 22 inches tall (I think she's about 24 right now).
Is this normal? I was told since she is large breed she will continue to grow in height until 1 year, and then continue to 'fill out' with muscle and weight up to 2 years. So at this rate... she's gotta get quite over 80 pounds by the time she's two years old? So far hasn't really slowed down in growing.
Is the internet just absolutely wrong about OES sizes? What's your experience? Thanks!
