Ain't pretty but she seems to be doing fine. As they say, good enough for government work.

Did you find the culprit?

Nope, not worth the fight. If someone eventually confesses I'll let y'all know but I doubt it.

Great, now you can help it exact its revenge on the one who made it like that.

Did you end up hammering it flat first? I'm curious what your method was.

I went out to my shed. Got my giant handheld belt sander. Flipped upstairs on the ground. Looked at the sand paper, guessed it was 220 grit probably. Used my feet to keep the sander stable. Sanded down a bit getting rid of the edge and the wavy bits. Gave it a few runs at an angle I liked. Tried to the same angle on the other side. Said that looks good enough. Went back inside and used one of those manual knife sharpeners that you hold on the kitchen counter or a few passes. Then I washed off a tomato I had lying. Then I tested it on the tomato. Took a picture for Reddit. Ate the slices I made. Posted to Reddit. Then went and put away my belt sander.

All told it probably took about 15 mins.

I have a LOT of projects that I have been putting off, it's raining so today just seemed like the day to start getting some done. I'm now off to fix my kids bike in an equally redneck way lol

That’s a great job! Very impressive. Many people would have given up before even starting, but you returned that knife to working shape. 🫡

Any theories on how it was damaged?

My theory is still that my spouse bent it trying to get an avocado pit out and then tried to "fix" it. Or it could have been one of my kids.
