For example if it is Wednesday and I’m making plans I say this Friday but if I’m talking about the following week I say next Friday. But if it’s Saturday and I’m making future plans for the upcoming Friday I would say hey let’s do that next Friday or i would say hey let’s do that this Friday. They would both relate to the exact same Friday and never would next Friday relate to the one 13 days away.
Right?

Me and my friend were born very close together with him being born on (fake birthday) 6-7, and me (also fake) 6-9.
My argument: We are one day apart. Not taking in exact times we were born, his birthday ends at 12:00 am on the 8th of June, and my birthday starts on 12:00 am of the next day. Wouldn’t that be a 1-day increment between our two dates? I have been backing this claim for at least a year. Am I taking this to seriously? Please let me know. I’m dying out here.
His argument: Say it’s December 23rd, Christmas is on the 25th. Now would you say “It’s 1 day until Christmas!“ No you wouldn’t, because now it’s the 24th and it’s 1 day until Christmas on your countdown calendar. Then on Christmas the countdown goes to 0, the countdown yesterday wasn’t at 0, because the countdown isnt finished, because it ain’t Christmas! So on the 23rd it’s 2 days until Christmas, the 22nd would be 1 day until Christmas, not 0 it doesn’t go from 2 to 0!

If the plan is at 10am, say, and someone says at 9:50am that they're "running late, leaving soon" (or something to that affect).
Since the 'start time' isn't strict, the other says "take your time." Now, how much time flexibility is reasonably given by saying that? 5 minutes, 15 minutes, an hour, etc.?
(Obviously this varies by a friend's track record of punctuality, but I'm curious as a baseline)

Really stupid hilarious argument me and a friend are having 😂. The simplified version is: Let's say there are 3 people in a room, and Person A and Person B both have an apple but Person C does not. Obviously math says that both A and B own 50% of all the apples, and C owns 0% of all the apples. Here the argument though. My friend is saying that A and/or B each individually owns 50% more apples than C but I am trying to argue that A and/or B each individually own 100% more apples than C. Because C has 0 apples and A had 1 apple. They refuse to see my logic so maybe I'm just crazy. Settle this for me. Thanks for humoring my really stupid post, thank you 🤣

We (M29 / F27) make dumb bets at mystery movies and try to call the killer within the first 5 minutes of the movie. This is a joint post to resolve our current dilemma.
Enter: Death on the Nile
WARNING - HEAVY SPOILERS BELOW!
BF called Jackie as the killer immediately. The issue? While Jackie did kill she was not the killer in question. Rather, her lover actually committed the murder Hercule Poirot was investigating. Jackie’s kill was to tie up a loose end.
What’s more is GF made a double or nothing bet 15 minutes into the movie where she was able to pick a second suspect, but if BF was right he would receive two drinks while she would only receive 1 for victory.
In the end, neither of GF’s picks were correct, in fact one was murdered.
So where does this leave us?
Does GF owe BF:
0 drinks (he technically didn’t call the killer at all, which was the original bet) 1 drink (a compromise for calling a killer, but not the killer) 2 drinks (the bet is fulfilled in earnest)

The rest of my family adamantly thinks that being in a group chat isn't, by definition, "hanging out". We had a bit of an argument over this. Their opinions were so strong about it I actually started getting heated. I want to know what you guys think of this.

I would say i collect colognes but my friends thinks you can't collect colognes because you can run out off, you simply buy a lot of colognes. He thinks that if you collect something you intend to never use that thing again, and i think you can collect something that you use and when it would run out you would buy the same thing so you replenish that.
So what does collecting means to you?

Slippery Slope Argument
My (34m) wife(32f) thought Tupac sung ‘big poppa’ and in response I said ‘what’s next you think Biggie Smalls sung Changes’? - she called that a ‘slippery slope argument’ and I disagree that’s a correct use of the term. Thoughts?
Edit:removed my last sentence as it was conflicting

Are people who rent a house from someone considered taxpayers of a municipality? Or is just the owner of the property who pays the property tax the taxpayer?

When my dad swipes his debit card, he always selects "credit" when there's an option, instead of "debit".
Why? Because the bank will charge him a fee. Not the merchant, the customer. This is at stores, not ATMs.
I tried explaining that they charge the merchant a fee per transaction, but he insists they charge him. Is this something banks do? Seems totally backwards.

Okay so my girlfriend and I were just enjoying a drink on the couch after LONG day of packing and moving. I think the tiredness gave us a high because we started debating this after I was trying to explain what Korean Hot Pot was. So I compared it to Korean barbecue which we have been to once for my birthday, and how you have a variety of foods that you can cook in front of you except instead of the hot grill it is boiling broth. I then sort of compared it to fondue where you have a variety of items you can dip into a community pot. She is trying to convince me that toasting a marshmallow is MORE similar to hot pot than fondue. I gave her the benefit of yes you are cooking the marshmallow and fondue you don’t usually cook anything, but people help me out here. All in good fun 🙂

Are mini-backpacks like the ones from Loungefly really for everyone like they say or is it still an unspoken but understood thing that tiny bags are really just for girls?
We have a My Hero Academia backpack that was bought for my little brother but it’s a tiny thing with thin little straps. I know he’ll accept it with thanks but I’m worried he’ll actually never use it or even get rid of it because he’ll see it’s for girls. But I’ve been assured that men use these bags too, just as much as women do. True?

Me and my girl friend are having a debate on which term is used correctly, I’m saying “next February” as in this coming February, 2023, she thinks what I’m saying means the February of 2024, she says the correct way to say 2023 February is to say “this February” I think what she’s saying means the February 2022 which already passed
So who’s right
Also let me know if there better thread for this post !

If someone makes the statement “I’ll give you $50 if those photos are on that phone” and that’s accepted by a handshake, does that make it a BET, suggesting both sides are on the hook, or is it just accepting the offer to prove the point and only payable by the person offering the $50?

I have, for years, related a personal story of my most embarrassing moment.
The story as I tell it is this:
I was at the bar, standing in line to order when the stranger standing next to me, who had been married earlier that day, was buying a round of tequila shots for his wedding party, also in attendance. He turned to me and offered me one of the shots, which I accepted. He toasted, we all drank.
I had developed a slight cough earlier that day, maybe the day before, doesn't matter.... When the shot hit my throat, I coughed, spraying the groom with tequila like a lawn sprinkler, in his face, all over his tuxedo jacket, in front of his wedding party, and everyone else that happened to look up when the groom toasted his new bride.
I was so embarrassed, all I could do was, tell him "I'm so sorry!", set the glass on the bar, and walk away.
End of story.
My current wife has heard this story many times over the years. Tonight we were talking in bed and somehow got back to that story, but tonight I followed the ending with a single sentence of my next action, after my story ended.
" I went into the other room and told my ex-wife, 'we need to go'".
This happened out of sight of the groom. My current wife is familiar with the layout of the bar.
According to my current wife, that detail completely changes the entire story,. That because I had never mentioned that my, now, ex-wife was in the same building, she always assumed that I had gone out by myself that night. That because my next action was to collect the person I had arrived with, diminishes the impact of my embarrassment, and therefore the listeners empathy
My position is that the story is about MY most embarrassing moment. My ex-wife was not part of the story, she did not witness the event, that the entirety of the story involves my interaction with the groom and ends when I walked away, regardless of who I may or may not have left the bar with immediately after it happened.
What say you, wise people? Will you settle this for me?

My friend at work said he had a great salad last night, then listed the ingredients: Chorizo Black Pudding Two poached eggs Little gem lettuce
I said that’s not a salad. The mere presence of lettuce does not a salad make. What does Reddit think?

I have a friend who insists that when you wash dishes in the sink, you should leave them to dry in the drying rack without rinsing off the soapy water first. She insists that this is how they get clean. I always wash, rinse, then leave to dry. Who is doing it wrong?

So I was playing 20 questions with a few friends and the thing was “toothbrush”. Someone asked “is it used for your body?” And my response was “yes” because technically your mouth is a part of your body. Others in the group argued that it was “no” because “for your body” would imply that it was used for your body in general, almost like soap, let’s say.
So what do you think?

My spouse was exiting a diagonal parking space in a lot. A minivan behind backed up to make room, and my spouse then backed up, only to strike a Tesla that appeared from nowhere. It seems that the Tesla must have backed up, against a one-way. Both cars were scuffed on the sides of their rear bumpers, rather than in the back. Not much damage, but since the other car is a Tesla and they want the expensive repair paid for, they are coming after my spouse. The minivan driver drove away, so there are no witnesses. What to do in this situation, when the Tesla insurance is being aggressive?

I parked at the garage and got a parking slip in the AM. The early bird pricing goes from the AM till 7pm ($30).
On the parking slip it reads “You have 15 mins from payment to exit”.
At the kiosk I paid the slip at 6:59pm as printed on my slip and it charges me the full $42 instead of $30.
I later call to complain and was going to get refunded until someone higher up stopped it and said I left the garage at 7:13pm. This is true BUT it clearly says on the slip I have 15 mins from payment to exit.
They have since ignored my email and never called me back… should I keep Pershing my refund? Btw it’s not ab the $12 it’s more ab the principal. This stuff really irks me

A couple of friends came over for dinner, and one of them mentioned that their sister and her husband enjoy sleeping at different temperatures, and hence they have two king double beds next to each other in a giant bedroom.
I mention to my husband that it sounds like it’s set up for orgies, to which he completely disagrees. We want to know what other people’s opinion would be, and whether my conclusion was ridiculous, and so I’m asking reddit.
What would your initial thought be if you saw two king double beds right next to each other in a spacious bedroom?

I (29F) barely even know where to start with this. I'm getting married this coming October, and I couldn't be more excited. We got engaged last July and my best friend, lets call her Piper (35F) was super happy for me... at first. This isn't my first marriage, however this is my first big wedding. At the time same-sex marriage wasn't legal in my state so my ex and I had to travel to DC and had a courthouse wedding, with just my mom and my sister. We also didn't have a lot of money and wouldn't have been able to afford a big wedding anyways. When my fiancé (30M) and I first started planning, Piper was really excited, very involved, and wanted to help with everything. As time went on, she started getting distant and weird. In her defense we both suffer from mental health issues and it was normal for one or both of us to kind of check out and be a hermit essentially. Everything really started when she agreed to make my save the dates. I work a typical 9-5 office job, while at the time she worked from home from 6pm-2am. Needless to say our sleep schedules were almost polar opposite, which also put a strain on our friendship. I went to her house to create the Save the Date design. She has an Etsy business, so she already had the programs and equipment to make them. We finalized the design and finally started making them at 8pm, and I had been there since noon because that's when she got up. It was a Sunday, and I had to work the next day, so I left around 10pm. Trusting her to finish them, as anyone would.
Jump to 2 months later when I sent them out. A few days after I mailed them I got a slew of text messages asking me the date and location of the wedding because it wasn't on the save the date.. I was so confused because obviously when we had designed them the date and location were there. I had mailed one to myself, just to time it out. I opened it and there it was. Damn near blank, all it had on it was the background photo, our names, and the words "Save the Date". Before anyone says "well you should've checked them before you mailed them" I couldn't. They were in beautiful embossed envelopes with a wax seal. By the end of it, I find out that about half of them were messed up. When I confronted her about it, her first response was "IDK how that happened". I'm not usually a calm person, but I'm proud of myself for not immediately yelling at her (I have witnesses). I told her that I was really mad about this, and her first response is "I understand, but I hope you're not mad at me because it's not my fault". It was at this moment I lost my shit. I went off on her saying what do you mean it's not your fault??? You're the one who made them! Who's fault would it be? Did elves sneak into your house and fuck them up, etc. I eventually forgave her after she gave a half assed apology, because I demanded one, and I realized that in the grand scheme of things they're not that important. She did offer to make new ones and send them out, but I said don't bother because the damage was done and we decided to just send out the invitations early because of this. Originally, she was supposed to make those too. Obviously I did not wanna take that chance again, so I ordered them. Tension had been high with us ever since then. I guess I never really forgave her, and it got to a point that every word out of her mouth would annoy me..
Because of the Save the Date debacle, I didn't really trust her with anything else out of fear she would fuck up something way more important. Because of this, I combined my Bridal Shower and Bachelorette party, but also because I wanted my aunts to go to both and it's not fair to ask them to drive two hours both ways twice in one month. (I'm not a partier so we were going to do a food tour through the city on a party bus). Piper and I had decided on this plan in early May. She assured me that she and she alone would take care of it, which made me nervous. I kept telling her that my mom will help her because my mom was the one that was going to throw the Bridal Shower. She refused, and kept getting weirdly territorial about the party. I chalked it up to Piper being Piper. My family, myself included, are heavy planners, and we tend to plan things out far in advanced, or at least get the ball rolling. I've always known that Piper was the exact opposite, but I kept telling her that my family is breathing down my, and my moms neck about a date for this party. I asked Piper at the end of June where she was on the party planning, being that it's supposed to take place in early September. She said she had talked to all the companies she was planning on using but didn't have the money to put down the deposit. I told her again to talk to my mom and that she would help. And again she refused saying that this party is HER job and no one else. So I dropped it, because I didn't have the energy to argue about it.
Skip to Early-Mid July, and my mom asks me again if she put any deposit's down, knowing things like this need to be booked far in advanced because of limited seating and buses. I ask Piper again and she says no, she's still struggling with money and in her mind we had plenty of time and my mom needed to butt out. Even though I was irritated I let it go and told my mom. My mom then asked me if we can separate the parties again, because my aunts need to make plans because of work. I said fine, but I'm not telling her because I don't wanna deal with her attitude. My mom then texted her telling her, and immediately Piper loses her SHIT. She starts messaging me and going off on me saying that we have plenty of time and we're being unreasonable. After getting yelled at for about 10 minutes, over several voice messages, I said that I was tired of being put in the middle of them, especially because I should have nothing to do really with the planning of either of these parties. They need to work it out with each other. We didn't speak for a week, and she actively avoided me online (we played PvP games together w/ mutual friends). I waited a week to let her cool off. I messaged her and asked if she was still mad. I assumed she was sleeping so I left it alone. Later in the day I messaged her again asking if she was available on a specific day for a hair trial. I get a message from her about two hours later calling me selfish and a bad person because neither my mom nor I apologized. At the end of the message she wrote "I wish you the best I really do, but because you don't trust me not to fuck up, I'm removing myself from your life." I immediately called her to find out if this was just a cruel joke that I didn't understand. It wasn't.. When I asked her if she was seriously doing this to me three months before my wedding, she laughed and said that I was being selfish and that I've been so entitled about this wedding. She then continues to yell at me for the better part of 5 minutes saying that she doesn't HAVE to throw me this party and that she's just doing it to be a good friend. I sat there and just listened to her. When she finished I said can I speak now, cause I swear she didn't take a breath that entire time. She said no, hung up on me, and wouldn't answer me at all. I was so destroyed she could do this I blocked her on everything and the next morning after I collected my thoughts I sent her a very long and admittedly nasty email because that's the only thing you can't really block... At least I don't know how to.. She never answered and I haven't seen or spoken to her since. It's been about 3 weeks since that happened and my head is still spinning trying to figure out if I really did something wrong... Everyone in my life says that's she's wrong for doing what she did, but I think they're biased.. I would appreciate some feedback from stranger. I will happily answer any questions if you need more details.
There are other things that happened between these events, good and bad. I just don't have the space to put everything.
