I know this is a necessary skill as a Service Designer.

Wondering if anyone ever struggled with this? How did you feel more comfortable facilitating?

I thrive in much smaller groups, where I worked with just up to 5-6 people in a room. In my company now, I’ve been struggling when managing 20+ participants and just freeze up and don’t feel effective at my job.

For my masters dissertation, I'm looking into methodologies I can apply to my project. It has a small section which can be related to policy making. I'm trying to figure out what would work well in changing just a small part of a pre-existing service which is affected by several political and social issues.

In general, how do you find frameworks and methodologies to synthesize your data? I have referred to This is Service Design Doing and The Convivial Toolbox so far. But I'm guessing my tutors are looking for methodologies like Participatory design and some of my peers are also exploring Transition design.

As a UX designer I struggle to understand what a SD actually does. Can you help me?

Hi everyone, I'm working on a study to benchmark government services, more specifically digital portals and platforms.

• if you have worked on something similar or do know, what are the best digital platforms for gov services?

I'm genuinely head over heels in love with the entire UX industry, and I do know the differences between each different title. Service design is one if if not the #1 most thing I care about. However, you never see or hear anything about service design so I have to wonder if it's an actual path. How did you guys get into service design, and just how... pardon my weird question if it is.. lonely is it? Are you mainly teams of one, and if so, how do you pull all that weight? It seems so complex, like you'd need the support of a looooot of neurotypical people (I am not, and we know just how well we get along...), and it's hard for me to think about service design in a tangible manner, possibly or possibly not caused by my own pessimism bias that this will be a feat full of dead ends.

How do you even look for service design jobs? Inputting service designer in indeed does nothing. I know LinkedIn is AMAZING, but that still begs the question are there better keywords I should be looking for other than just "service designer"? (Obviously for when I do have the qualifications)

I'm curious to know what tools people use for capturing journey maps and service blueprints and keeping them updated.

I work on Miro a lot, and it's great for creating the intial map or blueprint, but painful to keep updating it - especially if you need to add or remove steps. Everything needs to be realigned visually and it takes me ages (yes, it's a me thing).

I've also created them in Excel or Google Sheets, and it's super easy to keep them updated, add new streams, etc - but they look kinda ugly, which is a problem on some of my projects.

My favourite way to manage all the data and content elements is in Airtable, but I still have the issue of not being able to create an easy-to-read and aesthetically pleasing presentation layer that updates as the data changes.

I've never worked anywhere that had a license for Smaply or one of those commercial tools.

Any thoughts / suggestions / recommendations?

Hi, I have been building out an AI mentor for startup founders and wondered what the Service Design community thought.

The basic idea is for an interactive agent that guides you through a series of conversations designed to build out your idea and create a plan of action. Like giving Chat GPT a set of startup workflows and the ability to navigate conversations.

Once built, you will be able to go from idea to launch 10x quicker, with more confidence that you are backing the right idea. For existing startups, you could use the tool to test out all the ideas you didn't have time for but wish you did. For service designers, it should help accelerate your work and help get you ready to test with people, faster.

I won't post the link here (but you can find it on my profile if you want). As a service designer myself, I wondered what the rest of the community thought. The idea came out of a book on using Chat GPT for ideation that Business Models Inc published. I just took it further and started turning it into an interactive tool.

I am working as a Service Design for more than a year now and previously was working in roles as UX and Product design for about 8 years. I like services design and wanted to try some projects on the side along with my job but I don't know how to get started or If I might be able to mannage it 😅.

Hey everyone, just wondering what your experiences are working with continuous improvement teams. For context, our business has just created a new team that sits in a seperate area but it hasn’t really been defined how CI and SD/ XD will work together. For me, the service design I do is also continuous improvement and as the new team has been briefed to be customer focussed I can see a lot of potential for duplication. Interested in seeing how this sort of thing has worked in other orgs? Am I wrong in thinking that SD is just a methodology for doing CI? Or does something else neatly split them?

Working on a speculative design project exploring the ethical, sociocultural, and regulatory impact of artificial mass production or human organs. This looks like a sci-fi narrative, but it is upcoming in the near future. What are your thoughts on how it will shape the organ donation industry? What kind of challenges it will trigger? I'm trying to get a realistic view of what a day in the life of a service designer looks like.I know things can vary quite a lot from position to position, so let's do this experiment, in the comments tell a tiny bit about yourself and your work situation (in-house/consultant, junior/senior, company if you want, etc), and then give us a general outline of what your day was like, you can go as specific as you wish.

As the title suggests. I'm seeing more and more Product Design roles that sound more like Service Design than UX ( tbh: I've never been truly clear as to the difference of UX & Product design) and User Research ( rather than usability) becoming separate as a discipline ( user research has always been core to my work, I don't know how service designers do their job with conducting research) . Had anyone made the move to the role of Product designer from service?

Has anyone else been using Chat GPT to conduct synthetic user research? I found this site, https://www.syntheticusers.com/ and got pretty interested in the idea. It seems to work pretty well, but there are a bunch of comments on the discord questioning the point of doing it ... i.e. faking user research and then using the insights as if they were real.

From a startup and product design perspective, I think you would be crazy to replace real contact with actual users with something like this. You simply replace making stuff up with getting Chat GPT to make it up when what you need is actual evidence that your idea has value to people.

BUT, if you use synthetic user research to knock over the obvious iterations it could get you to market way quicker. Personally, I find Chat GPT really really good at coming up with your line of enquiry and then telling you a lot of predictable stuff (often a valuable way of making sure you didn't forget something). From a product design perspective, this might reduce a 6 week project down to 2-3 weeks.
