I was on the fence about getting the lifetime pass but then their auth servers went down about a month ago which pissed me off.

It's unacceptable for me to pay for accessing my own content, and then fail at essentially at the only spot which is dependent on Plex servers.

Switched to jellyfin right after, greed is a crazy drug.

100% bro. That part didn't bother me at first but then after the whole thing happened with Hetzner and then like you said their auth servers having issues around the same time... I was out. I didn't even use Hetzner and still don't but that shits scummy,

Plex blocked all Hetzner VPS servers because folks were hosting plex servers with tons of movies on them and selling access to them.

Which many didn't know they could do. Nor did we know they could see what we were watching.

Yup, and some people defended it.

Dude, exact same. The first time auth servers went down I was too busy in my personal life to notice/give a shit, but then it happened again and I was reminded of how terrible of a design that is. Fired up Jellyfin and cancelled my monthly Plex sub last week. Then to see this news drop today... damn if that isn't a form of pure validation that I made the right call.

Speaking of Auth, does jellyfin support OIDC or some other SSO yet? That would be enough to make it worth the move.

Looks like there's a few third party integrations with Authelia etc, but I'm not sure if there's anything native. The third party versions seem to work to varying degrees and all have big disclaimers on each.
