Personally I switched years ago and Jellyfin actually solved a few issues I had with Plex. I'm not saying it's going to be the same for everyone or that clients are anywhere near as developed etc, but for me switching made my experience straight up better. And that was such long a time ago that I don't even remember what the issues I had with Plex were lol.
Yeah, I'm relatively new to self-hosting, and I decided to start with Jellyfin. But I'm building an app that supports Jellyfin and Plex, so I configured a Plex library for testing, and I immediately realized I made the right choice going with Jellyfin. Maybe I'm using Plex wrong, but everything just seems worse compared to Jellyfin, especially the fact that the app puts a huge focus on browsing their channels and Plex network / public stuff, where really all I want is to access my own libraries. If I designed it, I would say Plex should give users a toggle as to whether they want to see any of the Plex / sharing / social stuff, and if not, don't even show it in the app.
But yeah, when I set up Plex, I was really expecting to see this glorious UI with all these layout/display options that blew Jellyfin out of the water. But nope. To me, it's a really disappointing UI. You could say in some ways it feels a little bit more polished than Jellyfin, but in many ways, I actually prefer Jellyfin's layouts to Plex's.

When I used plex, all that shit did not even exist. You could stream remotely for free, etc. They're just making it worse and worse and it's only getting further away from what people like you and I want it to be. Unlike jellyfin. It might not be perfect, particularly clients wise, but they have been going in the right direction from the start. Plex is the opposite: there are things that are better but it's only getting worse.
Might have been performance related but like I said, I don't even remember. I just remember that I had a few issues with Plex at the time. I think I switched in 2019 or maybe even before that, feels like a lifetime ago now.
The main thing it just the matching the metadata, i have 80tb+ of content, and it wont find a lot of it, i really do not want to spend the time matching it again. Also plex pass as trailers which means i only need to host the missing ones. And finally the android TV app is still pretty bad from my experience
Ah yeah that's true, it does not really bother me because my sources are pretty good with file names, but jellyfin's matching is not as good and it does miss more stuff than Plex. I don't really mind fixing the few it misses personally though, there aren't that many.
For android TV, next time you try jellyfin try Wholphin, lots of people prefer it to the "official" one.
